Hungry Jacks "Slightly Extra Largerer" Frozen Coke $2 (Save a Huge 40c)

621

As you all know, Hungry Jacks have Large Frozen Cokes for $1
You might also know they have Extra Large frozen Cokes for $2

A Large is approx 600ml* and an Extra large is approx 1000ml* (BTW way, I should point out that this is not displayed anywhere. Its up to you to find out. I went to the effort of measuring it myself, after finishing my XL, still being thirsty, and wondering if 2 Large cups would have been more volume.)
So if a Large is significantly smaller than your stomach's peak expandable volume (ie, you want an Extra Large), instead of getting an Extra Large for $2, get two Larges (aka a Slightly Extra Largerer) for the same price and receive approx 200ml* extra of sub-zero sweetened beverage, for free.

Thats 20% extra for free, a massive saving of 40c.
For visualisation, thats just enough extra frozen coke to cover the face of a baby.

*actual volumes may vary depending on how thrillseeking your HJ attendant is. Do they play conservative and fill below the lip of the cup? Or are they an adrenaline junkie that likes to see how full they can fill it without spilling it.

    I don't really think this is a deal…
    More like basic maths applied.

    But great description haha

    • +1

Every recent fast food deal has been basic maths of 'Item 1 + Item 2 = cheaper than buying them as a single menu item'
eg, frozen coke + cone = cheaper than coke float thingy.

      • +1

True true! Which is why I didn't touch the neg button!

      • +1

Yeh I wasn't a fan of that deal tbh. Some of the other ones (e.g. Makeshift McFlurry/HJ's Battle Burger etc) actually make sense to me because they use parts of the menu which some people may not have been aware of. This one is literally buying 2 of the same item, I fail to see how that can be considered a deal.

Cudos for the interesting description I guess..

        • +2

If you were going to buy 2 large frozen cokes anyway, then no, its not a deal at all.
But if you were going to get an extra large one, didnt realise the size differences, then this method gets you free stuff.
How is that not a deal?

        • +2

@100: A fair point raised, and I would argue is that it is due to the inconvenience of the 2 cups.

If for example we downscale this deal and pretend they sold 2x Medium (let's say 350mL) @ 50c each. I probably wouldn't bother buying 2 and just buy the large at $1 so I can hold a burger or use my phone at the same time (assuming I was on the go). So you do actually pay for the convenience (at the cost of slightly less froCo) as Orpheus said below.

In the situation, that I can either:

          a) Put both large frozen cokes into a bigger cup which I ask for
          b) Am eating in so it doesn't matter whether I have a single or two cups

Then yes I can see your point.

        • @Astro551:
          Good points also.
If you want/need the convenience, thats understandable.
If you are in a situation where 2 cups is not a hassle, then theres a free 200ml waiting for you.

        • @100:

So by that same token, we can apply this to 7-11's coffee deal, where it's better to get 2x $1 coffees instead of the $2 large one.

        • +1

          @montorola:
yes, if 2 small ones contain more coffee than 1 large.
you are paying $2 either way, why not get more coffee out of it.

supermarkets do price per unit volume so its easy to see the best value, but for fast food its different.

    • +1

Upvoted to reflect the bargain plus the free LOLs provided.

    • it's like(actually it's the opposite) buying a 1.25 lit bottle of coke for $2 @ Coles instead of their $3.85/ 0.6 lit bottles

  • -2

But then you have to hold 2 cups. You pay more for the convenience.

    • No this would be if the small bottles of coke were cheaper (combined) than the 2L bottle.

      • …I don't understand your point. So you actually pay the same amount for the convenience? (keeping in mind the different ml values ofc).

They give you a free cardboard dual cup holder, which can later be used for google cardboard.
      Problem solved.

      • +6

Someone needs to post the Hungry Jacks Google Cardboard deal.

      • +1

anyone that can figure how to convert say 2 cup holders into a google cardboard they will get like 1000+ upvotes

    • -2

Why did you guys neg him, he's telling the truth idiots

  • Extra $0.50 for a soft serve topper?

  • +2

youu save 40c and the world pays for your plastic waste!

    • +5

Only if you assume they are plastic waste, and dont realise they are recyclable.

      • it still needs to be recycled

        • +1

I agree, teaching people to recycle will have a much better impact than telling people to buy less stuff.
Buying 2 froco and recycling the cups properly, is much better than buying one and ditching the cup.

  • I thought this was common knowledge, just looking the kj of each would determine what's better value.

    • +1

I assume most people are not aware of fast food chain's actual cup volumes, but good idea with the kjs. I never thought to look at the kjs to determine the quantity ratio. That being said, is the xl listed as less than double of the large?

  • Sure could go a Frozen Coke right about now…

  • +1

    not a deal.

    • +1

consider it as advice then, on how to get better value out of something.

      • +3

Which would be appropriate in the forums. I've seen this in HJs before, but I think two large froken cokes are too much for me…

        • +1

I was using sarcasm. If a deal is not advice on how to get free stuff, better value, save money, then I dont know what a deal is.
If 2 large frozen cokes are too much for you, then perhaps buy an XL, they are smaller, despite what the prices would indicate.

        • +2

@100: Throw in a couple of Eneloops, and you've got a deal

  • Upvoted for the frozen coke. Gotta maximize your kJ per $

    • So you get 1000ml for $2, also 2x600ml for $2?

  • +1

I +1'd just for this comment:

*actual volumes may vary depending on how thrillseeking your HJ attendant is.

lol. It's like me filling up a Slurpee cup. I get that dome lid on first, then fill the cup AND whole dome area through the dome-hole (that sounded ruder than it should) for maximum Slurpee value.

Sometimes I get a little too lever-trigger-happy and end up with overflow… and have to stand there embarrassingly licking the spillage off the dome lid. Fortunately I still get asked for ID when buying booze, so hopefully my youthful looks makes my juvenile behaviour somewhat excusable - though, drinking a Slurpee to begin with is pretty juvenile I suppose lol.

    • You gotta tap it man.. Makes it all settle a bit. MOARSLURPEE!!

  • +1

I get Brain Freeze on the Frozen Cokes.

    • me too but I still buy them!

  • I bet the cost to your body is >40 cents when you're older?

  • You don't need to measure it you can just count the kilojoules per serving. If its less than double the kJ and its double the price just get two of the small ones.

  • +1

Well if you buy an extra large people might think your a pig. If you walk out of hungry jacks with 2 large people wont give it a 2nd thought.

  • Omg too much frozen beverage!!!

  • 20% extra sugar for free!

  • Here I come Diabetes

    • Almost 16 hours for the first "Bla bla bla …Diabetes…bla bla bla" comment on a Coke deal? Poor effort :P

    • Too bad they don't have Frozen Coke Zero.

      • We've got a slushy maker, and it only works with sugared drinks. I'm guessing that's why no froke zero.

        • 7 eleven slurpees come in sugar free versions.. Can't be impossible!

  • or just buy 1 large

  • Driving with my knees holding 2 large cups one in each hand and typing this with my pinky on one finger while the phone is in my lap….. All for a hobo price of $2

    …. thrill seeking indeed.
