  • Great quality, Australian made

    Is the canvas Australian made?

    • +1

Dunno about all the components nailes and wood etc, nor do i care.

The ones i've got have made in Australia on them. They are printed and manufactured here.

Maybe you can ask Big W Photos if you're worried about that.

      • No doubt the printing is done here and I don't doubt the quality of it.

Just that "great quality, Australian made", reminded me of " designed in Australia, made in China ".

        • +1

I think this goes for a lot of things. Australian made cars with loads of components produced O/S.

More to highlight that you can deal with locals if there is a problem and they don't need to send O/S etc. Big W here are very good to deal with.

          @ChickenTalon:

They're actually printed in Glen Innes by a company called Photo Create.

        • @Bob1877: Interesting. I knew it was Fuji Film white label service to Big W but didn't know it was these guys doing some of the products.

    • I purchased the larger sized one and I must admit, it's great quality!

  • +6

misleading pic, no way that's a 1:2 ratio…good price though!

    • +2

Agreed, but can't change that manually. It's the stock photo for all the panoramas on the site.

      • You are right ChickenTalon, I wasn't having a go at you, it's obviously the BW's mistake and they have done the same thing in the past…

        • i don't think it's BW's fault. Doesn't OzBargain have some Auto-fuction where it finds and assumes related images if you don't post a picture yourself?

        • +1

@andrew exclmtns: No option to post a picture where you supply a URL to the deal. All happens automagically by OzB finding a picture on the target page for the deal. Usually it's pretty good.

Fault here would be with BW not having the correct image against their product listing.

  • What size photo is recommended?

    • +2

It's a bit subjective. For this size and on canvas you won't need something super high res, you could probably even get away with a good shot from the most recent crop of smart phones.

The canvas makes very fine detail a bit redundant.

      • +1

Agree that canvas and very fine detail don't go hand in hand.

I cropped an 8MP shot from my Canon 350D down and stuck it on a 24x16 canvas… still looks brilliant!

    Where's the Happy 100th love??????

    • Yeah, I thought JV would be all over this :)

      thanks bomer

I got the 50x100cm deal from last year. Very happy with the quality from bigw

    • Got the 50x100cm deal a couple of months back. Quality was less than expected. Although that could be due to size of the photo. It was 3000x1500 pixels.

  • +4

    +1 for 100th deal

  • +2

What's the recommended resolution of the photo for a print this size?

  • Although it is a good bargain but a no deal for me.

BigW used Fujifilm with matte finish. So the photo is blurred.

    • +2

      It's printed on canvas.

      • Order yourself and you will see what I.meaned :-)

        • +1

Even if I ordered 100 of these things, I still won't be able to see what you mean because none of them will be printed on Fujifilm.

  • Anyone got a nice photo to use?

  • Hey guys what's the optimal res I should be aiming for for the given size?

  • +2

Can any photographers comment on the quality of these? I got some photos developed through Big W recently and the colour and contrast reproduction is terribly poor. Do they step up the quality for these more expensive canvas prints, or can I expect them to be as poor quality/calibration as their photo developing? Thanks :)

    • professional or amateur photographers? Cause photography is my favourite hobby and I must say the quality of the B&W BW(no pun intended) canvases is good.

    • +1

I hope you took them back if they were done badly. They have to fix them for you.

  • Good price, though in the market for a square canvas atm. That 24x24" would have been perfect sub $50.

    • +1

Shame you missed this deal back in June. They had them for $49. Wasn't very popular though, most don't like the square format.

      Try PhotoBookShop.

      • 20x20" for $39 delivered
      • 40x40" for $99 delivered

Haven't ordered from them before though, not sure of the quality and returns would be a pain to ship back.

      • Yep, saw that deal while searching ozbargain recently. Thanks for the photobookshop link though, might jump on that 20x20" deal instead.

    Perfect!!

    Thanks OP !

    • +1

you are welcome, happy to help

  • +2

Thanx op- congrats on your 100th deal! :-)

    • No worries mate, enjoy!

  • Do they print these on the spot if you go in store?

    • No, you need to use the online tool (or the in-store kiosk). Takes about a week for them to be ready.

  • Just made one, thanks OP :D

    • no worries, glad you could use. You should be happy with the results!

  • Are you able to use a photo (abstract art, landscape photo etc) from Google Images? Or is there anything stopping you from doing this?

    • +1

I don't see how personal/non-commercial use would be any issue :)

  • Hey CT, do you think the PayPal code posted by MadMapMan earlier today (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159699) would work on this deal too?

    • +2

I just tried it, and it didn't work.

  • +1

For anyone with a Harvey Norman closer than a Big W, this deal might be useful for only $2 more.

Hey guys, just received mine. I was amazed about the quality. It looks matte but has a bit of a gloss finish.

    Here's a link http://instagram.com/p/stLRsJvBZ8/?modal=true

I will be def. buying more before the sale runs out.

    Thanks OP!

    • +1

      great, glad you like yours

    • Thanks for the review. I was worried because someone else said the quality wasn't too good, but I think I'll give it a shot now.

      • well, i rate them. they certainly aren't for standing a few CM away and starting at the detail given they are on canvas. but they do look great

      • Yes, I was surprised it turned out way better than expected. The colours are rich and the black is black black not faded black if that makes sense.

My instagram picture is not filtered with filters, I just took the picture.

Tip: I had to edit and enlarge my picture in photoshop: 12 inch x 24 inch with 200 resolution/DPI. Because the Bigw website stated that my original picture was too small for the canvas size.
