Lazy to go to the GYM

Hi Guys, I have been very lazy last couple of months and this month i had been to the gym only for 4 days :( I think that if i have a proper bag ( me and my partner ) Refer this link : http://www.gaiam.com/everything-fits-gym-bag/95-1389.html and some nice gym bag for guys/ and some motivation ( like a good yoga mat/nice new towels ( had a look at the kathmandu towels ) and nice water bottles and some nice books to read.

Just want to know what motivates people to go to gym?

  • I go to the gym most nights. Most of the time my motivation is enjoying the scenery and getting a body like Hugh Jackman.

That's actually pretty good considering you managed to cram 4 days worth of gym into 16 hours.

I read that a study found that habits take around 60 days to develop and only 14 days to break. What you need it a motivated gym partner to drag you every week. After a while, you either develop a passion or a habit for the gym. You will actually feel an OCD need to gym.

    • yes i had read a book too, 30 days habit or something yes the problem is i do it for 15-20 days then i feel too good about my self indulge in junk food/chocs and then put on more weight lose motivation back to square 1 sometimes minus1

Having a training partner could be very helpful. Rather look for people to train at the gym, i notice if you get an actual friend/family or someone you know to be your training partner then it really does improve motivation and productivity at the gym. Also,On days that i feel so lazy and ceebs, my partner somehow manages to drag me to the gym and i do the same to them on days they are lazy. Of course has to be the right person, some people could make you less productive if they are not serious. Key is both u and your partner should be serious in achieving goals or else one of you will drop out soon and then your on your own.

If you're relying on gym bags, shoes and clothes to motivate you to work out, you shouldn't bother. Your heart and mind has to be in it to make real progress! It may also be your diet, low energy is common in people that have a bad diet and goes hand in hand with weight gain. Eat sh*t food, have low energy, gain weight… sadly this is very common.

If you're truly wanting to make a change in your life, decide it! Write down your goal, and concentrate on it. If you need help PM me.

    • thanks @ allegiance86 , yes bags/shoes/clothes are temporary gigs to motivate me to go to gym i understand the real thing lies in mind. I will pm u. are u a trainer in perth?

you mentioned that you didn't see any good results, that you lost 2kg first month..
here is something that you need to know
loosing weight and getting in shape:
    70% diet
    30% exercise
unless you have proper diet you are not going to see any results at the gym period.
if your trying to loose weight I recommend you do a lot of cardio and eat clean. you do that and you will start seeing results. having the best gear for gym doesn't mean anything, you have to set your mind to it, set your goals and try your hardest to achieve them, eat clean and go hard on that treadmill, that's how you will starts seeing better results.

striker - i m trying hard not to eat crappy food, i know i shouldnt have , i jus got half price lindt chocolate today, jus couldnt control.. i know its a lifestyle change. From tomo - no junk food for sure thnx

Don't wait until tomorrow, bin the rest of those chocolates and start now. Waiting till 'tomorrow' sounds like half of your problem. You said yourself they were half price so it's no big deal if you don't eat all of them.

        • Lindt :( - Yes i have half of them couldnt throw.. keeping it for emergency purposes :)

  • For me 4-Hour body book worked just fine. Better diet and less time in a gym. :)

  • The reason I much prefer going to gym rather than working out at home is:
    1. Everything is there for cheaper outlay that trying to make a home gym.
    2. Having the variety of weight/cardio gear to keep me interested.
    3. When I go to the gym Im there to work out, Im pretty lazy so that way i dont feel guilty about sitting on the couch all day.
Gym is for working out home is for relaxing

I started doing freeletics a month ago and have never been fitter in my life.
It is a bit like Crossfit, but with no need for any equipment (except maybe a pull up bar). They're all bodyweight exercises so can be done anytime, anywhere.

I find it easier to follow the program, as you just do it and then compare the time it takes to do a particular workout (even if it takes you a few hours to complete). The next time you do that particular workout your fitness has improved so that you improve your times.

There are many "transformation" videos online of people documenting their journey, which are very inspiring. The program changed recently and has included a larger variety of workout/exercises, which could seem more mentally challenging for some like me (I liked it for simplicity).

You can pay around ~$50 (cheaper if you subscribe through iTunes with disc. cards) for a 15 week Coach program that customises the workouts based on how you do each week. I'm now on my 2nd week of that. I know I will be absolutely ripped by summertime.

Find some exercise that you like which will get you pumped. For me it's boxing, I just start punching the boxing stand which gets the heart rate up and gets some frustrations out/clears my mind. This then leads to other exercise because I'm already rearing to go. Also running/sprinting, I don't run far, probably about 500m, but live on a hill so I run down it then sprint back up.
Best thing to do is to just start, once you get started it is easier to just continue what your doing.

Additionally, team sports. Anyone know where to join a team/how to find them? I'm in my 20's and looking for something casual/ not to competitive.

    • thanks rain, i will ask for boxin class in my gym today

You mentioned not sleeping well. Not sleeping enough always makes me unmotivated. Get to bed very early, skip the TV. Drinking anything within 2 hours before the sleep also keeps me awake.

I enjoy going to the gym, yeah i don't talk to anyone, but i do enjoy seeing the looks on gym regulars faces when they notice my consistent gainz. Plus having women in tights around provides more motivation to lift harder :p

  • Motivation? The extortionate monthly fees on a 24 month contract.

  • My 2cents.

Pay for a PT for about a month once a week. They will show you what you need to do and advise and motivate you. The fact you are paying should motivate you. If you follow the PT advise you should see some results in a month. You can then build on this.

Wear headphones and play your favourite music. Ignore all others at the gym. Get your workout done and leave.

  • If you don't like going to the gym why don't you play a sport you actually enjoy then it won't be a struggle to go to the gym it will be someone you enjoy doing.

  • Its all about mind set. Movitavion will only get you to the front desk - it is discipline that will get you off your butt and into the gym on the days you absolutely cannot be f'ed!

Find the reason "Why" you are determined to lose weight, and that will get you up at 6 am to go to the gym.

At the gym I used to go to, there was some big writing on the wall . It said :
"Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going"

Whatever your motivation is.. its guno run out. When you've been at it for a while - (IMO) the same motivation that got you going initially isnt going to keep you going. You just need to go because its what you do. Its your lifestyle choice.. you get up because thats what you always do, make it a routing and go because just what you need to do.
