  • No information about pixma promo. When I clicked canon.com.au/pixmawinners I only got 404

  • I've got this printer and I've been really happy with it. I like the 2 paper drawers for A4 and 6x4 paper and scanner works well.

    • Inkjet or laser?

      • This printer is inkjet.

Would you expect a colour laser multifunction printer for $129?. No

  • Heard a rumor you should not update your printer drivers as this will make them not compatible with generic inks.

    • Manufacturer deliberately disabling compatible ink cartridge compatibility?. No wayyy!!! lol

I thought that would be illegal in Australia to deny customers the ability to use compatible ink cartridges.

  • $129 worth of landfill

    • +1

      Tomorrows landfill today!

  • Anybody confirm this can take compatible ink cartridges? Also is this a flatbed scanner/copier. Not just using the document feeder? I am looking at this primarily for cd/dvd printing.

Used to use an ip4200 for cd/dvd printing which was great until it died a couple of years ago and wouldn't turn on anymore. Just never got around to replacing it.

Go to the manufacturer's website and check the specs.
For checking the compatibles market, go to the manufacturer's website and click on the consumables page, find the ink cartridge identifier, and paste in ebay.

i.e. for this one the black one is CLI-651BK (they do exist on ebay)

Look here and look at 'In Detail' - does CD & DVD Printing, 'Scanner Functions. I have the MG6250 and find it brilliant at scanning and disk printing, this seems to have larger (more economical?) ink tanks. They also do Air Print and Google Cloud print over WiFi.

  • I use a Rihac continuous Ink System with this printer and its awesome….. very good quality

    • Out of curiousity - can you take a photo of what your printer looks like with the CIS attached?

    • I have nothing but troubles with CISS systems from different companies specifically using Epson Printers (and blocked printheads), I'm wondering if switching to Canon might help have you had any issues with this model and the Rihac CISS?

      • I have nothing but troubles with CISS systems from different companies specifically using Epson Printers (and blocked printheads)

Blocked printheads are usually the result of long periods of inactivity and hence ink drying up on the printhead . Is this the case for you?
If so, a toner printer may be a better option for you.

        • Sadly I was made aware of this and ensured I used it daily or every second day.
It still ended up printing blank pages with full ink tanks.

      • You do have to do regular prints (at least a couple of pages a week) other wise you can get blockages. My previous Canon MG560 used to block all the time. The new MGP7160 has been much better. Its worth it for the massive cost savings though especially if you have kids that print a lot….

    • Bought the CIS same day as the printer a few weeks back…nothing but trouble so frustrated that I ended up threw the CIS away!

  • I might add that not all CIS systems are equal… Theres some nasty cheap crap out there
