Bloody OzBargain haunts me again. Bought the 55" TV as a wedding gift 2 weeks ago and chipped in with 4 other couples. Cost us $1450 and thought we had a bargain. Oh well… thanks U1.

    • +2

I hope you purchased from a store that offers a 30 day price guarantee.

      • TGG, and had to pay cash to get that price. Wasn't on special when we purchased.

        • +3
        • @mriethmuller:

Brilliant. But I bet their get-out clause is in the last line:

If we’ve offered to price beat the competition before you buy, then this voids the 30 Day price guarantee.

The price they gave us was cheaper than anywhere else at the time, so I reckon they'll say it was a price beat.

        • +3

          @tightarse:

Okay, fair enough. Unless your docket otherwise states that it was a price match, I'm not sure how they can justify that clause?
I recently purchased the Series 7 55". In store they wouldn't price match because they had a $200 cashback. But when I completed this form they still gave me 120% back. Worth a try I suppose?

        • +2

          @mriethmuller:

Definitely worth a try. I've already called the missus and told her to get over there. $35 is better in my pocket than theirs. Thanks again for the heads up.

        • @mriethmuller: Sweet, we also bought the 55 inch tv a week back and thought it was a good price. Looking even better now

          :)

        • @tightarse: Who needs to know if you are successful with the refund ;)

        • @Bullion78:

I've used there 120% price guarantee and the honoured it. Just needed to send them a email of the cheaper price seen and they happy refunded it..

        • +9

          @unity1, @mriethmuller, @Bullion78…

Glad to report that TGGs refunded the missus exactly $182.40. I didn't know this, coz I didn't really check it when we purchased, but the receipt had no discount or price matching details on it. Just a price of $1450. So they really had nothing on us with the T&Cs.

Anyway, I emailed the JB link to my wife. She simply took the receipt and iPhone into the store. The salesperson called the manager for approval. When he saw the JB special on her phone, the only thing he asked was "would you like to buy something now, or would you perhaps like a store credit to the value of $200".

My wife said she'd prefer the cash so we can just split it tonight between the other couples. He was more than happy to oblige. Signed a couple of forms, and off she went (perhaps the $200 voucher would have been better?).

So thanks a million to both U1 for posting the deal and prompting me about the cashback offer, and mriethmuller for the link as well.

This morning I was a little upset at missing this deal, but this afternoon I'm over the moon. I love OzBargain!!

          Thanks all.

      • I bought a TV from TGG and they beat the competition before I bought, then a better offer came up a week later. They refunded the difference plus 20%

    • +6

$150 split 5 ways ,I wouldn't be complaining. Some people purchase their house overpriced by 20-30 grand or more.

      • Too right Davo, all good. Awesome TV.

      • +1

@Davo93… It's all relative and hard to compare the two
        20k overpriced on a 600k house is <5%

It all just comes down to if can you be bothered spending 15minutes in your day to save $150total?

Whereas you may spend 6months or more getting loans and finding the right house.

In the end each individual will weigh up the costs and return for every saving and is it worth the time and effort

        • In TA's case it would only be $30. Worth it if your friends would appreciate but otherwise nothing to stress over IMO.

        • +2

The ozbargain way is to share a bargain with your mates :)

      • when are house deals going to be popping up on ozbargain haha ;)

    • My brother bought it around the same time, hopefully JB will put this in their next catalogue so he can claim for price protection guarantee.

  • 28 degrees card?

    • This is an Australian store charging in AUD. I don't know what the benefit would be, but I'm sure you could use your card if you want to.

  • In the market for a new 55" - is this a good model for its price? Was looking at some 55" Hisenses at JB a couple of days ago and they looked really good. Only about 1000-1100 AUD.

    • Its good for this money, much better motion control than the 5000 series for sizes over 40" IMO.

  • pretty good for the 48inch series 6. I paid $949 at Costco Auburn last week for the series 5 48 inch. I would have bought the series 6 48 inch, but they didn't stock it.

  • +1

How does this compare with the Sony W800B?

    • +1

In terms of PQ the Samsung wins every time. The Sony has lower input lag which is better if your a gamer.

      • What's better for sports? Which "motion" engine is better (I think I'm asking the right question).

  • +1

If you're in Brisbane, consider the Sony 48" smart tvs going at under $900 from Sony centre at dfo airport. They also list them on eBay for free shipping. 2014 model

  • plus $36 delivery, I want free delivery….

  • +2

Is the 55" active or passive 3D?

    • +2

I'm googling that ATM, seems like it might be passive, but I would also like to hear from someone who definitively knows the answer! ;)

[edit] Bah, looks like active…from the Samsung specs:

      3D Active Glasses
      SSG-5100GB x 2

      http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

      • +1

        Ahh, spewin! Cheers mate.

    • Samsung only use active cause it provides better revolution than passive and it's come a long way. I own both the Samsung and lg and I prefer the Samsung

      • I'd be interested to hear how active 3d provides better resolution?

I'm not a fan of active, the flickering of the glasses out of the corner of your eye @60Hz used to be pretty distracting…don't know if that's changed in the last year or so?

        • +2

Passive 3D uses polarised filters for each eye, and each line of pixels on the TV is polarized for each eye. This means only half of the lines are visible to each eye, and each sees an effective resolution of 1920x540. The lines are pretty obvious if you're within a couple of metres of the TV.

Speculating here but my guess is if they made a passive 3D 4K TV it would work a lot better, since you'd still get a 3840x1080 image for each eye; still plenty of detail.

        • +1

@Alzori: Thanks for that, great description, actually makes sense now that I think about it.

I've not seen the effect on my friends' LGs, but I'll get in closer from now on to check it out! :)

        • +1

@StewBalls: No problem! I might have exaggerated when I said a few metres, but I remember standing in front of one in a store, only 40" or so, and the lines were quite obvious. You probably wouldn't notice it from your couch though :)

  • Doh, bought the non Samsung non 3d version from the DSE 20% off ebay sale for $1204

  • Anyone know how long this offer is on for?

    • Till Sunday I think.

  • If only Sony TVs could be this cheap.

Good Guys have the 55" for $1288 http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_55%22(140cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_100Hz_3D_Smart_TV_UA55H6400AW
    and the 48" for $995 http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_48%22(122cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_100Hz_3D_Smart_TV_UA48H6400AW

    • Yes, they must have recently lowered their prices. They weren't those prices at the time of posting.

Looks like TGGs want to receive their fair share of free advertising on ozbargain too.

      • The Good guys had the 48" on special for $1080 over the weekend. Obviously the JB price has swayed them on this.

  • I had called them up for price match and they said they will call me back :)

    • +1

      Good luck with that.

  • Yaaay Thanks! bought the 48" about a week ago at $1125 and been hoping the price went down to claim the 30 day price guarantee at TGG :)

  • called Dicksmith to ask for price match so I could use Woolworths Wish Gift card (from RAA, RACV etc) for another 5% but they wont do it coz its under their cost price…..

  • Any Passive 3D 55" TV's (Samsung, Sony or Panasonic) going for around the same price?

  • I called dicksmith today to cancel my order… lucky it was still on 'processing' mode. I bought this one and saved me $150 =D
    Thanks OP

  • $995 at the Good guys?

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_48%22(122cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_100Hz_3D_Smart_TV_UA48H6400AW

    • +1

Already mentioned above, and only $3 cheaper

      • With a 30 day price guarantee = automatic win.

  • Good Guys is selling the same Samsung 48" at $995.

Price is only cheaper by $3

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_48%22(122cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_100Hz_3D_Smart_TV_UA48H6400AW

Could you get this offer and straight away use it to save another $20 off either TV? My guess is you could haggle that much anyway, but yeah. Fine print says you need to wait 24h to use the voucher… You could come back the next day then I guess :P

  • Does anyone ever buy or recommend buying extended warranties on TVs of this size/cost?

  • I wish ebay 20% off was on this weekend

  • +1

Got one. thanks OP. Harvey Norman price matched TGG & will deliver & install for free :)

  • Anyone know if you can get delayed delivery? I'm only wanting it delivered in early October

    • Call them up and arrange something. I'm sure they can help you if you're willing to pay for it now.

  • just keep in mind you get 2 years standard warranty from JB (1year samsung + 1 year JB) and I think only 1 year from others.

    • hey is this legit?? if i ask JB they would say 2 years?

      • Thats what JB said when I rang them but I had already bought from HN by then.

    • Nope. The warranty that jb give isn't a true warranty but a statutory right claim which anyone has for any purchase. For TVs it's usually about 4 to 5 years based on rrp. It's all under Australia's consumer laws

  • bargain

I bought my UA556400AW 12 months ago for THE SAME PRICE! The same TV should be about $900.

    • +2

LMFAO this TV wasn't around 12months ago. You must be thinking of a F6400 not the current 2014 H6400.

  • Just missed out on the 60" Samsung UA60h6400aw for $1690 at the GG a few days ago now its $1929

    • I bought that tv on Sunday :)

  • good price.. very tempted.. should i hold out till December sales.. hmmm…

  • how long do you think it will be till we get 60" at these prices? been meaning to upgrade an old 50"plasma but we sit further than 3mtrs from tv. At about 5 so bigger better.

  • I got the 55" for $1400 a few months ago. Can't complain about the picture quality except some free to air, which isn't the panels fault. The motion control is very unnatural but can be switched off.

I have a couple issues with TV tho. The TV guide becomes frustratingly slow and laggy. It's fast straight out of the box, but after a while it slows down. Not sure if this is the TV or the broadcast. It sped up again once I reset the TV back to new but it soon slows up again.

Also, the remote can sometimes be a bit jumpy when trying to select items on screen with the touchpad or arrows, with the curser jumping all over the screen. Sometimes the remote buttons don't operate or they lag. The other night I hit the power button and the TV turned off only to turn itself on again after a few seconds. It did this 3 times in a row. There may be some settings for the remote sensitivity but I haven't found a solve as yet.

    Hope this helps everyone.

  • bugger paid $40 more on the latest DSE deal. nice price!

  • +1

Thanks, JB Hi Fi paid the difference from a purchase I made 26 days ago. I would not have received that if it were more than 4 weeks.

    • I didn't know JB had such a policy. Well done.

    • Huh. I don't really understand it but 50 bucks is 50 bucks. Thanks bro.

  • It's a open ovation to your place to check out the gear.. Read the T&C

  • +1

Thanks unity1! I bought the 6300 last week from HN ($886) but hadn't picked it up yet. I went in today to see if I could upgrade it. Best $9 I have spent. Thanks!!

  • Picked this up for $950 today at JB without pushing too hard.
Only problem is its just too big @ 4mtrs.
