why not just use your racq membership ? its 5% off wow cards

    • these are e cards so you get them straight away plus if you have a network of friends joined under you you then earn money

Cause live in Victoria and don't have one

      • RACV have the same deal

      or Entertainment Book

  • +15

    so it's 3.5% off, not 5%.
it's pyramid marketing scheme…(or maybe a trapezoidal one?)

You're better off with the Entertainment book r various rewards programs (Red Energy, Dodo, Union shopper, etc) where you get 5% off and a wider selection of cards.

    • I guess it's good for buying the dick smith cards since there's been lots of good DSE deals lately.

Or can you use wish cards / buy them through the book?

    • Well I was hesitant in posting as wasn't sure if it was allowed but I have used the app and had no problems at all. Plus not everybody has access to Entertainment Book rewards programs and this is free. so even if only 3.5% off it still better than no discount.

But u shouldn't put the 5% discount on title where it's only 3.57%

      • Sorry not try to discourage you…a discount is a discount.

You might need to market it a bit differently.
How do you get these e-cards & how are they used? (they're not the usual plastic gift cards?)
Also you might want to get someone who is a native English speaker to write your spiel as it just makes it look a bit more professional.

If you app makes it easier to get gift cards i.e. you get some sort of electronic voucher, rather then a physical card, then that's a selling point "buy your discounted cards instantly, no muckign about ording online, waiting for the postie to deliver, then if you're not home, you have to queue up at the post office to collect your cards…."

  • I've checked it out, and there's 1.5% community surcharge. The AFTER SURCHARGE discount is 3.57% plus IF you get that .5% from friends make it 4.07% discount, in the event they buy the same value gift card as you. This is good for anyone who hasnt got 5% discount from racv or racq…

O.P please adjust ur title to reflect the REAL discount.

    Thanks

  • app no longer available for download on the app store.. maybe removed?

I guess like all good pyramid schemes , get in quick and get out quick.

seriously, there's no mention of security on their website. What happens if a transaction is corrupted?
Unlike a big company who you buy the cashback from ie entertainment book which sources directly from company.

Definitely not financially viable in the long run. Usually with gift card offers, the affiliate can offer a slight discount because they pay the retailer less than the face value of the gift card.

In this set up, the affiliate does not receive the 95-97% of the proceed to fund the gift cards. Apple actually takes a 30% cut for the in-app purchase and it seems quite ridiculous for Woolies (and other retailers) to offer 35% off the price of the gift card.

Under a pyramid scheme, the loss by the higher tier is covered by the lower tier.

    Pyramid marketing at its best

5% off is possible with ING when tapping in person <$100 without a gift card.
And you can always buy giftcards while you are there with ING to get 5% off too.

    • Still possible? It eventually becomes 2% provided you meet their requirements.

  • Cant download… App not available

    • I just checked on the app store and could download to my Iphone no problems

      • Works nowww

Just calculating roughly how much earning potential you can scam from your friends spending.

    Lest see,

max of 5 people at 0.5 % each comes up to 2.5%

    assume they are big spenders of Woolworths. 10,000 each per yr thats 50,000 and 2.5 % comes to 1250$ ;
If they calculate at 0.5% each friend max instead of the total it would come to 50$ x4 =200$

So much effort for so little ?

yeah, they should have implemented the full pyramid. These half arsed trapezoid schemes just don't cut it.

    • There is a nice little calculator on the app which would show you what you could get back if your friends use the app, they also have Oporto in Fountain Gate (VIC) where you get a 5% discount and 2% loyalty bonus. There not many other merchants in Victoria yet, apparently it is going well in South Australia and in the next few weeks Victoria should take off.

  • I havnt signed up to ENT book this year, as Im with red energy and get the 5% off Woolies anyways. Also less value for me this year on the ENT book as Coles has left the building. But I must say I got extraordinary value out of the ent book last year ith all the food and entertainment vouchers I used.

i thought pyramid scheme is illegal in Australia?

    • It's not a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes make money for the upline through the fees charged for signing up. Assuming it's free to sign up, the business and uplines make money through the 'community surcharge' when you use the product. This is all fine and legal.

For a 3% or so discount it hardly seems worthwhile though when there are better deals out there to be had.

  • Electronic cards are a pain !! Caltex/Woolworths don't know about them and a lot of stores can't even accept them even if they do know about them. You can take them to a store and buy the real gift card thought. I am using the affinity alliance deal and getting 12% off and converting them to real cards in store.

    • How does one join the affinity alliance?

    • yes that sounds like another great deal, 12% off is amazing. How do we join?

  • Reminds me of Lyoness… very little advantage unless you plan on spending a lot of time signing up people.

  • WOW.. Pyramid schemes come as apps for your phone now…

  • Op trying to make cash from us.

    • You don't need to join under me, you can just download the app and use without sharing with anybody

  • +1

Even though there are other ways to get a higher discount, I dont believe OP tried to dupe anybody into joining.

    • thanks MelbBargainChaser77 I thought I explained everything in the OP. I even asked Admin if I could post and they confirmed ok as they edited my OP.

I can see this being handy when I want a gift card on the spot as I don't have any others left.
