Anyone used it and can comment?

    • Used it to buy shoes from the US a few months back.

Can vouch for them, very good. Total was $35 USD for express shipping which included a 25% discount code.

  • +6

    Tax free address?

    • +4

Illinois. No amazon taxes it seems.

  • +12

Free repacking service is good. Though a quick comparison with shipitto http://calculator.shipito.com/en/#/ shows that boxhop is about a $100 dearer for similar sized 20kg package. Any comment on that rep?

    • +2

make sure you select platinum (which is what this offer is) when you calculate your shipping
it's still more expensive by ~20 dollars or so though

  • +1

Interesting, I'm looking to buy tennis racquets and goods from tenniswarehouse US. Might take a look at this service

    • +4

      check out http://www.sportsdirect.com/tennis
racquets are very cheap and I believe they ship to oz. I've bought other stuff from them, just not racquets

      • Awesome, thanks! Gonna have a look and compare prices.

    • +2

When looking at US based shops, make sure you search for racket, not raquet!

      • +1

That is my least favorite thing about shopping on US sites.

  • +1

just signed up. have been using comgateway for years.

    • Me too. It is time to try a new company.

    • haha let me know the comparison, HopShopGo, although a bit expensive with seasonal service charges, their express shipping is great! i paid for express Thursday afternoon, and i received an email this morning saying its being dispatched from Melbourne depot today

      • +1

I have been using HSG for the last 2 years now and I'm very happy with them. Is the above deal cheaper?

    • I have only used com gateway they are expensive and bloody tight, no Abercrombie no HOLISTER no this no that, may try this one but com gateway have one advantage Oregon has no sales tax.

      • Thats a bit unfair though, they have stated on their website that they were formally approached and asked not to export anything from a few sites including Abercrombie. Theres a list of about 10-15 sites, the rest of the world is open to you. Their service is a tad expensive, but they know what they are doing, It sucks they follow procedure sometimes, but I take that because i know i'll get my products safe and on time.

  • Wonder how these guys compare to Shipito?

    • see my comparison above

  • +1

    Good for 1+1?

    • You're joking right? If so, you have a very bad taste in humour lol

      • Exhausted my humouress mood with today's eBay fail :(

    • +1

I used hop shop go for my Oneplus One.
Cost $35 USD for express shipping plus insurance. Chose it because of no drama PayPal login.

These guys look really solid. Will try it with my next One.
Think I'll capitalise on the 25% off offer and grab something big from Amazon or Emotiva.
      Good deal.

      • doubt you'd get shipping cheaper than Emotiva.
The amps just weigh so much

  • Is there a way to Mail an already purchased (as yet unopened) item from Amazon USA to Boxhop and then add other items? Thanks

    • Is the already purchased item currently in the U.S. and do you still have the packing slip and purchase confirmation? Thanks.

      • Yes it is .. with my relative.. and all documentation available. Originally wanted to buy some more but didn't get around to it.

        • +1

That's great news! Please feel free to register with BoxHop and then send this item to your BoxHop suite. We will also be happy to consolidate this item with any additional items you would like to purchase from the U.S. in order to save you money on international shipping fees.

        • Thanks.. I will give this a try!

  • thinking to get sonos from US, wondering if amazon is the best place to get them from?

    • What model are you talking about?
I found Play 5 is cheaper here if you can negotiate the price.

      • a soundbar, sub, 2x play 3 and a bridge which is around 2000usd, compared to here the same setup will cost 2800

        • +1

Realtively the same price when you convert the USD to AUD then tax after that.

  • +5

This service is actually quite expensive even with the 20% platinum membership discount.
    To give an example:
    This Seiki 4k TV Deal

    Actual Weight 49.2 pounds
    Product Dimension 49.2 x 9.8 x 32.5 inches

    Amazon Shipping Weight 64 pounds
    Amazon Cost $196.35

Box Hop Shipping Weight 113 pounds
Box Hop Platinum Rate Cost: $374.53
Box Hop Gold Rate Cost: $468.16

Box Hop explanation - To calculate shipping costs, international shipping carriers use shipping weight, which is the greater of a package's gravity weight (as read from a scale) or dimensional weight (which takes into account package length, width and height and represents how much space a package takes up in the cargo plane carrying it).

Can confirm Amazon international shipping rate? I didn't go through the actual checkout process. Looked at their shipping rates page to work out the cost.

    • +5

Generally Amazon's shipping to Australia is very cheap, so it's fairly unlikely that going via a freight forwarder will be cheaper than Amazon directly.

    • +1

How would you like the freight forwarding company to make money? You only use this service if you can't get something shipped from the US.

    • +2

Amazon's shipping rates are going to be more competitive than any forwarder. For a forwarder, Boxhop is pretty competitive.

  • +2

Do you offer Buy For Me service? As many US merchants do not accept Aussie credit card. Thanks

    • does this include 28 degrees or Aussie AMEX ? I have never had an issue just curious,

I found with HULU wouldnt except mine, But they offered paypal, So I first unregistered my card from my paypal account opened a new paypal, Made up an address (or can use your freight forwarding address) and register you card to that new paypal account.. I could then use any CC…

But they have to accept paypal obviously ;)

    • +1

Thanks for the helpful feedback! We do not currently offer a Buy For Me service but are looking to add this in the future. Many US merchants will accept international credit cards if the billing and shipping addresses match. We recommend contacting your credit card company and adding your BoxHop U.S. Shipping address as a secondary billing address on your card and trying this way. Please email [email protected] with more questions.

      • +6

Many US merchants will accept international credit cards if the billing and shipping addresses match. We recommend contacting your credit card company and adding your BoxHop U.S. Shipping address as a secondary billing address on your card and trying this way.

This is incorrect. Australian-issued debit and credit cards do not use the Address Verification System that is used in the US and UK, hence the billing address associated with the card cannot be confirmed by the retailer. Adding the billing address to the card will not do anything as the merchant cannot view it anyway. This is the reason why most US stores do not accept Australian cards.

  • Thanks rep.
I've had very good experiences with Borderfree/FiftyOne in the past, so will definitely try Boxhop if your rates are competitive.

  • given it's an annual membership I assume this is better for those who order regularly than wnat the option to use an US boxe address for the occasional package when no international shippings required?

    • +1

Hi there, as the first year of Platinum membership is free for Ozbargain members during this promotion (ending August 29th), we recommend that even occasional international shoppers register for BoxHop now to take advantage of our competitive shipping rates.

      • +1

Shipito seems to beat you for every parcel size even with your 25% discount. What's competitive about your rate?

        • not for the parcel i was looking at.

  • +2

Nice deal. Signed up. Only negative I can see is that Illinois has a 6.25% general sales tax. Would be better if could have an address located in Oregon or Delaware with no sales tax.

Also want to confirm that we won't be charged automatically for platinum next year when it expires? Have just added paypal as my preferred payment method.

    • Yeah can someone please confirm that I'm not paying some hidden annual fee for signing up?

      • +3

These are great questions. Whether or not tax is applied depends on whether a retailer has a physical presence in Illinois. Amazon, for example, does not have a physical presence in IL and so it does not collect sales tax. When you place the order on the retailer site, if sales tax is applicable it should be displayed on the confirmation screen.

Regarding your second year of BoxHop Platinum membership, as your 1-year anniversary approaches, you will receive an email from BoxHop notifying you that your free membership is coming to an end and that you will need to pay membership fees ($7/ month or $50 annually) in order to continue on as a Platinum member. If you prefer not to continue on as a Platinum member, you can downgrade to the free Gold Plan with less benefits. If for any reason you are unhappy with our service you are free to cancel your membership at anytime. Renewal is not mandatory.

        • Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply.

        • hi..

What telephone number I need to put in my Amazon address book? BoxHop's phone number?
And how about the return policy if I buy it from Amazon? Do I need to return to BoxHop first?

          Thanks

  • +2

I've used priceusa in the past, wonder if there is a comparison site somewhere.

  • +4

Also have signed up. Rep can you confirm the offer ending 29th August only pertains to account signup and not 25% additional discount off first order?

    Thanks

    • +1

That is correct, you must sign-up by August 29th but have until Oct. 31 to apply the 25% discount to your first international shipping order.

      • the 25% discount is only valid until end of aug? might want to make that a bit more clear in the description - sounds like it is just 25% discount off first shipment anytime during your membership period.

"Extra 25% off first shipment with promo code OZBARGAIN"

        • Hi there, that is incorrect. The 25% discount off of your first international shipping order is valid until October 31. OzBargain members have until August 29th to register for this BoxHop promotion, which includes a free Platinum Membership in addition to the aforementioned discount.

        • @BoxHop:
Sorry must've misread - thank you for clarifying :)

Might be an idea to add the oct31 date to the description. Thanks again! will definitely give it a try!

  • I thought there was no sales tax sure I read it somewhere?

    • With my admittedly low understanding of how this works I believe sales tax is an unavoidable cost unless the item is shipped to certain US States eg. Oregon, Delaware that don't levy it.

      • Whether or not tax is applied depends on whether a retailer has a physical presence in Illinois. Amazon, for example, does not have a physical presence in IL and so it does not collect sales tax. When you place the order on the retailer site, if sales tax is applicable it should be displayed on the confirmation screen.

  • Has anyone compared this with Borderlinx?

  • A suggestion of something to buy with this (or another shipping forwarder)

    Oculus Rift DK2 VR headset

    USA price: $372 delivered
    AUS price: $467 delivered

It won't even ship until October, but I imagine you won't be able to buy it cheaper then. DK1 is still going for around $400 on ebay now.

Good bet the shipping forwarder costs less than $95…

    • One would assume that shipping to America instead of Australia would recieve the wrong chargers or plugs?

      • Not needed - all USB powered.

  • I am looking at a watch from Amazon that won't ship to Australia. I was originally looking at shipito, it was going to cost about $30 delivered, but I looked up reviews and there are some horror stories out there of people saying that once shipito received the item, they ask for copies of passports and stat decs as well as saying it will cost significantly more than the quote once it arrives. Or items are claimed to never be received.. What happens if this happens to me? Amazon won't help because they have delivered it as per the order..

It is $255 on amazon and sells for $750 in aus (550ish on eBay)

Am I being too paranoid? A lot of people use freight forwarders without issue I know.

I can buy it from another US website but it will be $60+ more expensive delivered, which I am leaning towards paying..

Boxhop is actually quoting cheaper than shipito in my case, with the extra 25% off it will be even better..

    • +1

Never had anything like that occur using Shipito!

I've shipped bucket loads of purchases with them as well.

That's not to say people haven't had issues, but I certainly haven't experienced anything remotely like what you've stated above.

If you read Shipito's FAQ and T/C's you'll find that identification type paperwork is only required
      in certain scenario's.

      http://www.shipito.com/faq#security

Just about everything I've purchased and had delivered to Shipito had full tracking, I was also emailed by Shipito everytime a package arrived
in the warehouse. Once I marked it for frowarding and paid the freight costs, I also got tracking on the outbound package. Really couldnt be simpler.

I'm not affiliated in anyway with Shipito, but they have saved me a lot of money!

      • I agree

        • I've used shipito for about a year, large number of personal items + goods for resale, never had a problem, they have amazing rates on TNT 3-5 day delivery (usually takes 1 day to get from the Shipito in the US (via several US cities) to Sydney, then 3-4 days to get to Adelaide from Sydney). Tracking all the way, delivery loss insurance generally at no additional cost with the TNT service. Prior to that (for about 3-4 years) I used mbex.net (Mailbox Exchange) again never a problem, but no where near the professionalism of Shipito.

    • Out of interest, what watch are you talking about?

      • Seiko coutura ssc199

    • +1

I have used Shipito heaps of times and they are fantastic. Their service and rates are hard to beat.

  • Store Rep so it is the PLAT price and then 25% of that for first ship to Australia?

  • Yes, that is correct. OZBARGAIN promo code is good for additional 25% off Platinum shipping rates for your initial shipment.

  • "Save 20% on shipping to Australia for the first year" is this automatic as my first ship did not show this in shipping cost.
It did show OZBARGAIN code applied.

    • The 20% discount is automatically applied. For clarification, this 20% discount is relative to BoxHop's Gold shipping rates.

  • I missed out on this deal :(
Is it possible to make an exception?

    • Hi There,

      We would love to help.

Please email us directly at [email protected]

      Thanks!

  • So I had about 11 or 12 different shipments sent to BoxHop and got them to consolidate and ship together.

Was a little disappointed when the initial quote came out to $107.12USD (after platinum discount, and 25% ozbargain discount) considering these items were all quite small and light.

Pleasantly surprised that it looks like after consolidation, the price that was charged was $87.67!

To be totally honest, didn't think they would be charging any less than the quoted, regardless of what it really came to - so thumbs up so far! Let's see how long it takes to ship/arrive now!

Overall - the service is good, but priced a bit too high for my liking (without the ozbargain discount).
Comgateway seems to offer the exact same service, and their shipping prices are cheaper - or equivalent to boxhop with ozb discount.
