They're super cheap, because they don't sell, because they're super awful.

Just about anything with a TFT for reading is unpleasant.

    • I'm super, thanks for asking.

  • at wynnum plaza tooooo!

  • Also at Belconnen ACT

  • also in Sydney, appears to be nation wide

Only use for this I can think of is a "disposable" e-reader/media player if you're travelling through dodgy areas and staying in backpacker hostels where a decent tablet or e-reader would probably be stolen in a day. But then again, only 'up to six hours of reading' - that's pathetic! It would need to live with its charger. No use even for a long plane flight, and it's awful trying to read books in bed with a power cord attached to the bottom, so you can't rest it on anything.

Awful product. If people could find a way to stop production of these 'made to fail' devices we'd go a long way to reducing landfill worldwide.

    • There's USB power ports even in Greyhound coaches and economy class domestic Qantas seats.

    • 6 hours of reading is not that bad considering it's using an LCD screen. Most e-readers use e-ink, so they are capable of weeks of use.

Firstly, Thanks Altomic for the post on this deal.

I gambled my $19 for a laugh, and was blown away by what $19 "e-reader" can do nowadays.

    Real spec:
Plays 1080p Full HD video smoothly in all of the codecs i've thrown at it.
Reasonable quality screen, decent for the size, matte finish, so less reflections, bonus! Good brightness.
Very light ! (portable) Sturdy enough feel to it.
Clean good audio, played every type of audio file type and bitrate I have. (the included headphones are rubbish)
Good long battery life due to low power device, easily 2 HD movies on 1 charge. Couple this with a battery bank for all day movie watching.
Easy to control interface, once you realise it is NOT touchscreen. (PLEASE SOMEONE HACK THE FIRMWARE!!!)

    Con:
Next to useless as an actual e-reader. Text only docs are fine but high quality PDF's have too much detail for the resolution of the tablet. Bonus of adobe authorised software of tablet is appreciated though!
Obviously, no wifi, no browser, no internet or communication of any kind, its only $19!

    Overall:
I bought 3 of these before posting this comment as I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out. sorry.
Apart from a unit to just put in my day bag, or pocket. The other 2 i'm going to mount in my car as they will flush mount well and it will be cool to have !!

My verdict is get a 32gb MicroSD (class 10 preferred) and get one of these units before they are all sold out.
Fill in with you favorite media, and enjoy!

    • Thanks for taking the time to write a great review! I was very surprised to hear that it plays HD movie codecs without struggling (or indeed at all!)

What are the video controls like? Is it easy to fast-forward/rewind movies, and do they start where you left off? I've tried some cheapie stand-alone video players, but you could only go forward 30 seconds at a time, or even ten seconds at a time, and you couldn't jump to a later part of the video. That meant trying to watch a 43 minute TV show on it was frustrating if you wanted to just watch the end, and trying to find where you left off in a a 2 hour movie was tedious.

It's certainly cheaper than some airlines like JetStar charge to 'hire' a video player during your flight. And like you're planning to do in the car, it's a good idea as it's cheap and unlike an expensive tablet, if somebody breaks into your car and pinches it, no big deal.

      • Thanks.

Yeah, the controls like jumping ahead and resuming are extremely basic.
Thats why I thought that a custom rom or firmware would be awesome on this tablet.

Another function it needs is resizing the proportions of the video for the screen.

If someone wants to start hacking it, I'd love to be apart of it!

        • obviously you should cycle the battery a few times to get it to its "best" performance, but have you tested battery life yet?

    • on 64mb of Ram?!!
You must be taking the piss. Whats the bitrate of the 1080p files you're playing?

  • No kidding, actually the files were stuff of my gopro at full bitrate and resolution because i just happened to use the card outta my gopro. I loaded it with standard definition stuff, so how shocked do you think I was when one of my diving videos played smooth as butter on the $19 e-reader. Dont believe me, then it will cost you $19 to prove im a liar, or can some please cross verify this for me please.

And please my hacker friends… your magic, please!
