Great device! Bought it from Amazon for the same price back on 22/11/24.

Nearly went a Kobo Libra Colour, but after watching countless YT reviews, I ended up with the Bigme B751C and have been very happy with it.

There are compromises compared to a 'traditional' B&W eReader e.g. text wasn't 100% black (more dark grey), battery life is way less due to running Android, but I was happy to live with this, so YMMV.

    • How's the backlight? Is it warm and sneaky enough to read in bed with the wife?

      • +2

You have 3 options to select (Daytime/Night/Bedding), plus a custom option as well, so no issues setting it how you want it for bedtime reading.

I usually select the Daytime setting (blue-ish light), for the daytime obviously, then I have a Custom setting for night time, which is a warm/yellow-ish setting.

        • Thanks for replying. I am looking to sunset my kindle. I have one with a quirk where it goes max brightness on waking. It's made me very unpopular.

    Android version? Play store?

I have long been tempted by the Boox devices, but struggle to justify their prices.

    • Same as boox but not as refined (based on the reviews i've watched on youtube)

      @zbc

It runs on Android 11 (but not expecting any upgrade) and yes, you have access to the Play Store.

I looked at the Boox, but when the Bigme dropped down to this price, I just went for it.

  • Does it have an e-ink type display?

    • +2

Yes, it's using the current E Ink Kaleido™ 3 tech

  • 7in colour screen is wasted on manga because it's too small, right? I had a kindle DX that barely fit manga at a readable size

    • Yes, it is. But it's a compromise I was happy to take as well. I think 10in would be the minimum for manga and comics.

      • how about the 7.8" versions of the Boox/Bigme for manga & comics (I need the play store) - kinda like using an iPad mini but colour eInk for easier on the eyes?

I'm trying to get one device to do all my reading on rather than the phone for novels & PC for manga, but my daughter's iPad Air (11") just feels too big and heavy when reading novels & taking it out of the house, while her paperwhite is too small for manga (tho better than my phone cause of the aspect ratio), so I'd hoped the ~8" units would be a sweet spot/rough enough good enough.

7.8" may still be on the small side IMO.

The Bigme 7" screen is barely readable, so you need to zoom in a little for the writing to be legible really.

    • i have the kobo libra colour which is also 7" and its been fine for me

  • Big Time from Future Man.

  • wish its 10 inch with this price

I have boox, bigme, kobo and kindle.

Both kindle and kobo are great pure e-reader.

For androind based e-reader, my Boox is way better even though it’s almost 5 years old. My bigme was the first e-ink product this company ever produced. It is Very laggy, had no access to play store despite it came preinstalled. Now it just died all of sudden after one year of minimal use.

Despite horrible experience with the last one, I am tempted to try this one out considering it must have gotten better and the price is so good.

    • seems to be rewarding the company for a pretty ordinary product

  • This or AU$838.69 for 10.3 Guoyue K3 ebook Kaleido 3 ?

  • This deal is back, just grabbed one.

  • Mine arrived today. Very clunky to set up and I'm an IT guy, lots of crashes and poor English translation in menus. But, once set up it's running well. I've read a magazine and a couple of chapters of an eBook. It's better than I expected given the poor reviews. Just be prepared to fiddle a lot when you first get it.
