at that resolution I'll stay away from ths "HD" Plasma

1024*768 does not do true 720P HD progressive, hence this is just a "higher definition" over tradition CRT TVs. I personally do not see this as an "HD" TV.

True HD TVs should have capabilities to do minimum 1366*768 resolution to allow 720P.

Especially as the TV viewable area increases in size, its even more important to allow higher definition.

    • Agreed, this is not HD.. Vertical resolution is, but Horizontal is not.. You'll get (I presume) the sides chopped off your widescreen content. either that or everything will be crammed into the available pixels by interpolation, resulting in taller, skinnier people..

Disagree. This is "HD" which is a standard term that has been used in the market for years now, it is not "Full HD". There will always be interpolation unless you input the native resolution (ie 1024x768), so even a DVD will be interpolated. There will not be taller, skinnier people as the aspect ratio is preserved with interpolation.
Having said that, I think price could be a bit better. We have seen plasmas of this resolution below $799 and we have seen Full HD LCDs of same size at $999 (Aldi).

        • Partially agree with what you said.

          Quote from Wikipedia:

High-definition video or HD video refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, and most commonly involves display resolutions of 1280×720 pixels (720p) or 1920×1080 pixels (1080i/1080p).

Note: "commonly involves display resolutions of 1280x720 or 1920x1080", this is the easiest way to educate people and make sure you do purchase a HDTV that does the job in the common aspect ratio.

    • thanks for the vote though.

    • This is absolutely not true. Anything with horizontal pixels greater than 720 can do HD.

This TV has the same resolution that your $1500 Panasonic plasma's have. It fully supports 720p.

However because the resolution is in a 4:3 ratio, the pixels will be rectangular and the quality may not appear as great as pixels in a 16:9 ratio.

      This is a genuine HDTV.

After having to cancel my vivo tv order from DSE because they still dont have any in stock 2 months later, i'm not buying anything from Dick Smith again.

    • I'm still waiting for them to give me a call back regarding the Wii Moto GP game, which has been on order for a couple months now, call the store - takes your details down, then nothing - repeat step 1. DSE pickup your game

1024 x 768 is High Definition Plasma Widescreen TV ?

I think the price is ok but 2 year late for model .

    • +2

Again with the stupid negative votes. Panasonic, LG and Samsung's latest 2009 42" plasmas ALL have a 1024x768 resolution. Panasonic do have a couple of units that are full HD but I don't see how it's 2 years late.

If you were to buy a Panasonic you'd be paying $1400 on special, this is $838. Do the maths.

Won't ever do business with DSE again after they completely messed me around on the Vivo 32" LCD

    • same! Still messing with us big time.

  • No deal! We have seen Full HD 32 inch for around that price, so it is a big compromise you may just regret.
Plasma, so pixels being rectangular is quite the norm.
This is as bad as the 40 inch aldi lcds with a resolution of 832*xxx.

    • I don't see how you can compare a 32" 1080p LCD to a 42" HD Plasma. It's apples and oranges.

Full HD is not the best thing since sliced bread. Most customers with a 1080p panel don't have a 1080p source [Blu-ray/HD-DVD].
