There are never enough terabytes. B&H Photo Video currently has a "Instant Savings" discount on WD My Book Live Duo 8TB NAS — USD $349 + $64.90 postage = USD $413.90 delivered (~AUD $445). That's around $100 cheaper than cheapest store in Australia according to staticICE. Interesting bits on the spec:

• 2x 4TB drives
• 800MHz CPU
• Gigabits ethernet
• File sharing over network
• DLNA, UPnP and iTunes server

Also note that B&H Photo Video's postage is not per item but per volume so the postage / item can be cheaper when you buy more. There's also this Toshiba 256GB Q Series SSD for USD $109. Postage by itself would be USD $56.20 (not worth it) however would not increase the postage if buy together with the WD My Book (or other bulky items).

      RAID 1 with two identical drives won't protect you against faults or defects that affect that particular series of drives. e.g. DeathStars and the more recent Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 fiasco.

      That article states WD as far more reliable than Seagate… Hitachi is of course king, but they are ridiculously expensive.

        My 1 and only Hitachi died after 1yr. It's also the only drive that's ever died on me.

  For those who are willing to tinker a little for a better overall product, get the N54L for $229 from Shoppingexpress and rip out a few 4TB seagates from amazon. Will be abit more than this, but you can do so much more on the N54L.

      Each to their own I think - I'd rather spend the $400, plug this thing into my network, install the auto backup software and forget about it for 2 years while it does it's thing.
