  • Anybody use this?
Looking for a replacement to lightroom. Needs to be able to hand RAW files, do library management, basic edits (histogram, colours etc), do spot touches (removal of stupid tourists etc).

Not sure this would be a Lightroom replacement as it says it can operate as a plugin to Lightroom. Will find out soon enough as I am installing in now.

As for replacement for Lightroom, have a look at Corel AfterShot Pro 2. Only $80 (vs $190 for Lightroom) and very capable. I used to use Bibble but Corel acquired that and rolled it into AfterShot - http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/products/aftershot-pro/defaul…

I'd recommend against aftershot pro unless you first review it's raw conversion quality against the competition.

      Anybody use this?

No, nobody has ever used this… :S

    • +1

I think the only real Lightroom alternative is Capture One Pro. There was a massive deal on it recently (nearly 60% off) but not sure if it is still going. Though, rumour has it that Apple retired Aperture because they're bring in something new baked into their OS… if you're an Apple guy.

just curious, why you want to replace Lightroom?

can anyone confirm if this will work on 4gb ram?

    • +32

You will need a computer connected to the ram…

      • +2

Does it also need a monitor or just the tower will do?

      • +1

You will need the computer connected to the mains power

        • +1

Will DC circuit work for the computer?

        • +9

FFS. Computer requirements these days. Back in my day all you needed to do was make sure the punch cards were the right dimensions, and thickness, that they weren't bent or torn, correctly labeled, and that all the punch holes were properly aligned, and the cards all in the correct order, and… oh wait.

      • JV, since you are being picky, How do you connect an external RAM to a computer?
RAM is part of the computer, connected to the Mother board.
        PS:
This also works with a Laptop ;-)

        • +8

Easy, cut the motherboard part off with the ram module area… carefully connect all the wires to complete the circuit…place the cut off part outside your computer, plug in RAM.

If you need more RAM then: http://www.downloadmoreram.com/

Working fine on my work laptop with 4GB of RAM.

  • Wow… requires 8GB ram? Is that for optimal usage or actually a requirement to even run it?

Just realised I got this last time it was free, downloading it now to test it out.

  • Thanks TA :-)

  • anyone know when this will expire (last time this was posted, someone found the date when this freebie expired.)

    • Hmmm, not sure about the last one, but this time it says "This is a fully licensed version. It's yours to keep forever. "

Thanks TA, as a photo editor I thought I would give it a go for a laugh. It is actually pretty good and I am impressed.

  • Licence can be used on up to two computers. Bonus!
    Thanks again TA

  • Downloaded both Win&Mac version, thanks OP.

PS. the software seems to be installed onto C: drive only..

  • thanks i got it when i put aussie address it would not let me download so i used some american address and got it.

    • Worked fine for me with aussie address got serial no problem

  • Wouldn't install last time I tried when it was free… might give it a go again though. Hopefully this is a different version/build.

Still using 32bit? http://i.imgur.com/DZlavxj.jpg (A tribute to Robin Williams)

You'll need 64bit Windows for 8GB of RAM anyway as 4GB is the limit for 32bit.

    • also just found that out when trying to install
no more love for x86 these days…

  • No need to give any of your details btw. Try Alabama and postcode 35005

  • I got this last time and installed it. Still trying to learn how to use the damn thing.

  • Downloaded and installed, thanks OP. How do I input my key?

  • what's the catch I wonder?

    • +2

You get regular emails asking you to buy the full suite. Maybe one every week or two.

Steep learning curve to get the best out of it. Needs photoshop elements 10 or above for it to be integrated otherwise it's a standalone product. Not sure about full Photoshop or Lightroom.

Hmmm… Norton AV removed it saying it's threat. "WS.Reputation.1" Dunno what that means.

    • Which mirror did you download from? I have Norton and it was ok.

      Try Australia - majorgeeks

    • Same message here. The link was after I purchased the software.
      http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=…

    • had to download it using a different method, try firefox or a download manager

      hope that helps

      • I went to Norton application and restored the file which was automatically deleted ignoring the warning.

    • Same here. I created a new directory, told Norton not to scan downloads to that directory, and put it there. I now* get a constant 98% CPU usage, heaps of popups inviting me to connect with horny MILFs (in my area too!) and lots of new toolbars.

      (*) This part isn't true.

  • Need license number to activate, how come? any idea where is the number located?

  • Oh, my bad. got it through email.

  • downloaded for my software collection ;)
