Nooooo! I need to go to MSY on Monday so they can replace some broken crap they gave me a week ago! lol

I hear Holden Hill is all outta stock of EVERYTHING, guys! ;)

Edit: some genuine advice, guys - don't bother with order online, pick up in store, just go straight in. They NEVER get back to you.

    • +1

No problem with ordering it online. Every branch is different I guess. I usually go to the Mitcham store.

    • I rang in Friday lunch time to ask if they had an EVGA 770 2gb at ultimo. They smsed me in the afternoon that they did and I went to pick it up.

    • Ordering online saved me. They were out of stock well before I managed to get there (with signs taped up around the room, no less), but they did fulfill the online pickup/reservation I made the day before.

      • Still waiting for my "order" of computer parts to be emailed through after over a week.

I bought the parts the day after I ordered them from Adelaide CBD store, where I reserved them online. The reason I haven't cancelled is I want to know when they're actually going to get back to me.

Their organisation (and customer service especially) is a complete joke.

The only reasoning for their success is grey market merch, bought in bulk at sweat-shop prices and presumably underpaying their staff, based on the level of service you receive…to bring you (admittedly) fantastically low prices.

Little bit angry at them at the moment, as you can probably tell.

  • Going to pick up one for the 32 gb microsd. thanks

    • Damn I bought this same 32MB Evo card from MSY on Saturday morning for $26 !!

Unfortunately I used my ING paywave card (for $1 or so cashback) instead of my Coles Mastercard where I could have claimed the $17 difference back.

  • +2

It means $9 must be the cost price or lower. Doubt they are loss leaders when they are all discounting at the same time.

  • +2

Not sure what Samsung has up its sleeve, discounts in various stores in the last few days.

    • +2

      SSDs too. New tech maybe…

    • spyware?

  • +1

nice price for 32gb micro sd card.

  • +1

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Prod…

Worth trying a price match if MSY is too far away :) pity the local to work doesn't have stock!

    • If you find a lower price online or advertised within 30 days of your purchase we will refund 120% of the difference.

      make some money lol

      • That would make it only $1.60 after they refund the 120%!

      • +1

Too risky relying on TGG price guarantee if they come up with some excuses or sold out right before you claim the price guarantee (happened to me once at the time i emailed them was the competitor had stock but when TGG replied said out of stock).

      • But I'm guessing they will say something along the lines of below cost price, so therefore instead, they will refund the difference between what you paid and cost??

I haven't read the terms, I would strongly suggest anyone going down this path to think about it carefully.

$26 for the 32gb Samsung EVO. is there any code to get it for $9?

    • +1

      Starts Monday.

    • +37

Yep input code "WAITTILLMONDAY" and give it a try

      • :D

        • -7

was a joke, didn't actually try it lameos

        • +16

If that one didn't work, try you're instead of your.

        • @cryptos:

          That's because you used "justgotpwnedforunfunnydadjoke"

          and "awwcomonguysitisfunnee" after.

  • +2

    lol, thanks spackbace

    • Your post will look kind of silly IF everyone posts in that other sequence of posts.

      :D

  • Haven't used the free Kingston 32gb class 4 from Norton deal @HN yet but tempted to buy this class 10.

  • +2

I swear those micro SD cards used to be like $80.

  • OMG…9 dollars for this MicroSD card…

  • Wow, that's amazing. Looks like I'll have to cancel my order from PCCG, haha.

  • i purchased some usb3 drives recently so did some research,
the Staller drives are fast to write to but slow on copy from to pc.
    be warned.

  • -4

nice work to compete with the other deal with that $11 shipping rubbish. gonna rock up to my local msy and grab 5 and get my mrs to grab another 5.

    • There were two offers recently for this micro SD card, one at least with $11 postage was like this one, you could pick up free. How much does MSY charge for postage?

      Edit: $12.91.

    • sell nine of them for ten bucks each and you basically get one free.. lol

  • +1

Going to be ozbargained like PCCG. Saving my upvote for now.

  • +1

These suit sony xperia z2 mobiles and tablets? Sweet

    • Of course. I'm going to get one for my new Xperia Z1!

    • Yesssss! Been waiting for a deal like this for my z2 :D

  • +2

Whats with these Samsung EVO MicroSDHC on sale lately.

    • +1

The pricing that is being offered to dealers - in various roundabout ways - is part of Samsung's strategy for promoting for the 'EVO' rebranding of the product-line, worldwide.

If this price was attached to an EVO memory-card deal from an Aliexpress seller, it would - even now - been deemed 'fake/scam'…

(The … was for anyone who recalls a certain, reasonably likely legit, Ali-seller EVO deal that was pulled several weeks ago from OzBargain.)

  • +2

Those who rushed into the Mwave deal would be kicking themselves now…, me included ! :P

  • +2

The deal is on! They changed the prices for the online orders for the miceosd card.
Does anyone knows if OW sell these memory cards?

  • What does the SD adapter do? Does it convert the MicroSDHC card to MicroSD card?
I am looking for a MicroSD for my Huawei G526 phone.

    • +2

for devices that take SD cards like Cameras.

      • +1

So, the adapter makes the MicroSDHC to a SD card compatible, not micro SD.

        Thanks.

        • +3

          Yes, exactly.

    • mSD to SD

    • The HC means High Capacity. Usually any cards over 4GB will be advertised as MicroSDHC. It is still a MicroSD card. Most old or low/middle end smartphones take MicroSD card up to 32GB. This card will most likely work on your phone.

  • looks like deal has already started? i wonder if i need to prebook or i can just rock up. anyone tried adelaide cbd?

  • What do you guys use the micro SD cards for?

  • All sold out?

does that mean tomorrow there will be none?

or will it be available tomorrow?

    • Typical MSY

sd card deal on? but delivery is $12 ? wth.. should be 80cents in envelope!

  • +1

Worked for me. Ordered online for pickup at local store. Cheers

    • +4

How do you select local pick up ? It only shows two shipping options for me.

Edit: don't worry I found it. You have to select a local store as default location

  • If you cannot pickup and need to take postage into account, to achieve the best price per card, you must order 10.
The postage for 11 suddenly jumps up to nearly twice as the postage for 10.

    • read the t&c. limited to 5. unless combined with other items.

      • +3

T&C: limited to 5, unless combined with the other items
Reality: I can order as much as I can WITHOUT combining with other order, as long as there is stock.

        T&C: it starts tomorrow
        Reality: it starts today

        Typical MSY!!

    • Ordered 10, got confirmation email and paid

Does anyone try to price match in TheGoodGuys? I want to know the result…

    • +7

I did maybe 2 hours ago, I got two for $9 ea (they clicked the Victoria location button when first getting to MSY site). They checked the MSY website, saw the price, attendants jaw nearly hit the floor, looked at MSY warranty, said something about MSY must get some free from Samsung for some deal as TGG sometimes get stuff free too from Samsung. Honoured it no worries though, said to me twas a damn good price.

Scan of receipt if it helps, Ive removed the personal details bits though…

      • Thanks a lot~!

      • +1

The ones I got from MSY have a bit of white label paper stuck over the "10 year" part of the warranty… rather dodgy.

Still, hopefully I'll be able to deal with Samsung directly if it ever comes up. Who knows what MSY will do.

        • white label paper stuck over the "10 year" part of the warranty

Lolwut now? Im SO glad I went to TGG.

        • @Tuba: http://www.imgur.com/cl3fzCO.jpeg

I peeled it off the left one. Super dodgy.

Gonna have to test these for fake flash when I get home.

        • @elusive:
I just finished running a test on one with H2testw

Warning: Only 29963 of 29964 MByte tested.
          Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
          Writing speed: 13.1 MByte/s
          Reading speed: 17.9 MByte/s
          H2testw v1.4

1MB untested due to windows instance on putting a System Volume Information folder on the card.

Card was tested in a multi USB2.0 card adapter in a USB3.0 port. I'm certain I've seen higher speeds from other cards, this one seems disappointingly slow, certainly nowhere near the claimed 48MB/sec on the packaging.

        • @foobar:

Sequential posted read and write speeds of 44.4MB/s and 19.1MB/s respectively.

Also, When comparing random large-block transfers, the Samsung EVO posted 43.9 MB/s read with an impressive 32.0 MB/s write, the latter of which was surprisingly one of the best bunch.

          http://www.storagereview.com/samsung_32gb_evo_microsd_memory…

        • @nadan:

I'm sure some cards have performed well but we're talking about these ones from MSY which happen to have little white stickers placed over the 10 year warranty decal on the reverse of the packaging as pictured above.

It's definitely a 32GB card but is it genuine is what we're wondering.

        • @nadan:

I suspect the reader @foobar tested on either wasn't capable of UHS-I, or had other limitations (USB 2.0?). But I don't think I have an UHS-I reader either…

Anyway, I'll test it in a couple hours. I hope I don't confirm his results.

        • @elusive:

I've already stated it was a USB2.0 reader :) I've had good results previously with it though, testing a SanDisk 16GB UHS-1 card in it now, so far it's slower than the Evo.

        • @foobar:

Ah, sorry, I didn't really read it properly. In that case, you'd max out at 30 at best. Maybe lower if it's one of those cheap eBay readers.

        • @elusive:

Using a different card reader now but I can't get this one to work in a USB3.0 port for some reason, currently writing to the Evo at 14.0MB/s via a USB2.0 port.

The SanDisk 16GB card is going at a blistering 6.27MB/s so the Evo definitely seems faster than that which is a good sign I guess.

I know I've had much higher speeds than these but I'm all out of readers I can think of, been so long since I needed to run these tests I can't remember how or in what I used to do them.

        • +1

          @foobar:

I am pretty sure it's genuine given the sale at different retailers, these aren't unique to MSY.

        • @nadan:

          these aren't unique to MSY.

A concern is that the little white sticker over the 10 year warranty might be, seems a really odd thing to do.

The results are in on the SanDisk 16GB USH-1 card and they're not good:

          Writing speed: 6.06 MByte/s
          Reading speed: 17.5 MByte/s

Again, this is in a USB2 reader in a USB3.0 port. I've since found another reader and tested the Evo quickly, it was no faster so I stopped it. Really need to get a fast card reader.

Will be interested to see results from the Evo card in a high speed reader, hopefully it will deliver numbers similar to what you quoted above.

        • @foobar:

The USB 3.0 port shouldn't make any difference if your reader is only 2.0.

I'm currently testing it on my laptop's built-in port. H2testw is going at 18MByte/s write, and that's going to take a while. Next, CrystalDiskMark followed by testing on a Galaxy S4 (i9505). Apparently the S4 is supposed to be UHS-I, and it's also Samsung, so with any luck…

Edit: damn, apparently only the i9500 does UHS-I. This is bullshit, Samsung.

I got 17MB/s read and 13.4MB/s write on the phone. Not too terrible, but it certainly doesn't live up to the specs.

        • @elusive:

13 write and 17 read is pretty much what I got.

I've found that USB2 flash drives do generally work a wee bit faster in 3.0 ports, it's not a lot but I'm sure I'm not imagining it!

        • @foobar:

Laptop's reading at 37.5MByte/s. Looking decent. That's 37.5 and 18.0 vs the 44.4 and 19.1 @nadan linked above. And it also looks like the laptop reader is connected to the USB 3.0 bus, which is nice :)

Now if only the device I was going to use it on (phone) could make use of it properly…

As for the USB 3.0 thing, I suppose you might see that if you have a couple other devices on USB 2.0 sharing the controller shrug

If you got similar speeds to my phone test, then your reader is likely not using UHS-I.

        • And final results:

Warning: Only 29971 of 29972 MByte tested.
          Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
          Writing speed: 18.0 MByte/s
          Reading speed: 37.5 MByte/s
          H2testw v1.4

H2testw isn't great for speed tests, though. Here's what CrystalDiskMark thinks:

Notice that it's got a great random write speed! Far better than sequential, even… this would be great as a ReadyBoost drive.

I'm currently running comparison tests on a Sandisk card (SD, 16GB, UHS-I, "Extreme", from a DSLR). It's got better sequential write, but far worse random.
