For those who hate flossing, the Airfloss looks almost fun. This does not replace normal string flossing, but using this is better than not flossing at all! My dentist recommended this to me (he uses this personally) for cleaning behind my permanent retainer wires where brushing and string floss can't reach. This is different technology to the Waterpik (continuous stream vs pulses).

Looking at local stock, the cheapest I could find was at Shaver Shop / Harvey Norman etc for $109 AUD after a $20 cashback promo Philips is currently running for Father's Day. RRP for this thing is $169.95.. rip off.

Note the model linked from Amazon is also the newer model which has just come out, HX8211/02. The ones selling in Oz I believe are still HX8111/02 which is version 1. The difference between the two (I asked Philips customer care) is that the new model has an auto-fire feature where if you keep the button pressed down, the machine automatically sprays every second so you can move the head around your mouth without the need to press the button every time.

I also checked with Philips customer care that these units have a multi-voltage charger, so ordering from the US is fine, no voltage converter is needed, just an international plug. It's also specified as multi-voltage on the Philips website.

Amazon link (don't know if this worked in the proper field):

I ordered with a 2-pack replacement heads (7.95 USD) because these retail for $29.95 AUD here in Oz.
Philips Sonicare HX8211/02 Airfloss Rechargeable Electric Flosser $79.95 $64.95 USD
Philips Sonicare HX8012/64 Airfloss Replacement Nozzles, 2-pack $ 7.95 USD
Shipping and Handling $ 7.74 USD
Promotion Applied -$15.00 USD
Total: $80.64 $65.64 USD
Comes to about: $86.56 $70.38 AUD

Make sure you click on "Clip this coupon" under "Special Offers and Product Promotions" on the Amazon product page. It will take off $15 USD. And pay with 28degrees or similar to get the best exchange rate. Not sure when the coupon expires, couldn't see it stated anywhere.

Soz for the essay and hope it helps someone!

Edit: Amazon have put the price back up to $79.95 USD. CamelCamel shows the price fluctuates every so often though.

Thanks for sharing, not that I needed to spend $90 but I couldn't resist

I'm in the dental industry, so just some extra info…

    1. V2 has auto-fire as mentioned, the lid over the water reservoir is held in better (like a clip) and the charging stand should have little bits which hold your tips.
    2. It is the same charger as that used by their Flexcare toothbrush, but not the Diamondclean
    3. I didn't like this air flosser and prefer my water flosser, but my colleague loves it
    • Which water flossed do you have, any link for cheap deal?

      • +1

        Hi ,

I'm not in dental industry so i'm not very sure the different between water flosser and the air flosser, however my dentist advice me to get one water flossing a few week back and in the market for once since .

Find this one post to Aus (http://www.amazon.com/Waterpik-Cordless-Professional-Flosser…) for a total of $65 i think it good price , you can have a look , bought one myself

        Hope it help

        • thanks. see below Pisslur also bought the same one - and he mentioned about using step down is that correct? ill have a look

      • I've used the waterpik countertop (WP100) and a panasonic (Panasonic Oral Irrigator EW-DJ10-A).

Waterpik countertop is available from Chemist Warehouse for like $129 (last I saw).

The Panasonic is available from various stockists for about $70.

I'd say the waterpik was the best one I've used, with the downside of being HUGE.

The Panasonic I got for really cheap and it's been very good despite being so simple. I'd imagine the portable waterpik one would be similar.

    • Is water flosser like waterpik better than this one???

      • Personally… and as a dental professional… yes. You're more able to use irrigants like chlorhexidine.

    • This is a water flosser, despite it being called AirFloss.

      • As I noted in point #1 about the water reservoir… I am well aware. I have used many of these products, and this one is more air than water, and I didn't like it - but different strokes for different folks.

  • anyone knows how does this compare to the Waterpik? Unfortunately Waterpik doesn't ship to oz.

I haven't used the Waterpik myself, but my dentist said as it's a continuous stream of water that is used, it requires a large water reservoir, and can be messier (a lot of people use it in the shower?). The Airfloss is much more portable and takes up less space. My dentist personally prefers the Airfloss for these reasons but acknowledges the Waterpik is a good electric flosser also. There are lots of reviewers online who prefer the Waterpik, and then lots that prefer the Airfloss.

Chemist Warehouse stock the waterpik, amongst other stockists.

IIRC it is about $129 from CW.

I prefer the waterpik, but it can take up counter top space, and the water can be a bit messy… but personally the airflosser "blast of air with a bit of water" sprays crap everywhere in a worse manner.

  • Hmm Amazon reviews says water floss better (clean more) than air floss.. I think I might wait for water

If you're looking for two units or to link up on here and "share-buy"…from ebay - ships from USA - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Philips-Sonicare-Airfloss-2-pack-…

    Includes:
    2 AirFloss handles
    4 nozzles
    2 chargers
    2 tongue scrapers

    Features:
Microburst technology cleans at the touch of a button

Comes is at about AUD$150 (shipping included)

    • need to make sure this is the second model HX8211/02.

      • Yes.

The model number is different but it on the box (back face) it says "Single Burst (point and press) and Auto Burst (hold for continuous burst).

Can't ascertain the improved lid over reservoir though.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HFQQ0ZQ/ref=pe_385040_30332200_T…

Didnt read the description and had to end up getting a Step Down. Luckily, Bcf has a cheap $10 step down.

      Great link PissLUR. Thanks

  • this is one of the best investments for your health on ozbargain, thanks OP

btw how come the replacement nozels are a different code to the product? HX8012/64 vs HX8211/02 does it matter?

edit: Description "Designed to work with the Philips Sonicare HX8211/02 airfloss rechargeable electric flosser,"

  • I bought one from a dude in ebay. It died not long later after very little use and then a period of non-use. Too difficult to do warranty, so I let it be and wasted $100 odd bucks.

I've had the panasonic EW-DJ10-A Oral Irrigator $38 + $10 shipping small pulsing water pik style for years. I'm on my second one, left the first in the bathroom overseas.

I Use this daily. 2 speed and plenty powerful. cleans really well, try after a thorough flossing and you will be surprised how much normal flossing misses.
I use with rechargeables which last a month or more with daily use.
small so doesn't take much bench space & good for travel also.

    Highly recommended!

the amazon price now drops to US$64.95 before the $15 coupon, for those who placed order earlier, you may try to cancel the order and replace it

    • I Can confirm, its now $49.95 USD after the coupon.

Was hesitating last night, but with the updated price….cheers to a healthier teeth!

    • omg thanks! coupon can only be claimed once per account so I had to make another account to reorder, and cancelled my order from yesterday.
And I have updated the post.

      • i dont see it with the lower price? how?

        • Ah.. price has gone back to $79.95 USD.

  • People looking at this might like to know my experiences with electric brushes. Had a couple of Oral B which are ok, but recently got the Philips DiamondClean which is much better. Battery last for ages (still yet to recharge it after about 3-4 weeks) and is Li-Ion. The cleaning action seems better than OralB too.

I also have the Waterpik which I can recomend too. Wish I'd got one ages ago.

  • Does it come with a universal charger? or do we need to buy a step down transformer?

    • I have addressed this in the middle of my essay..no transformer required for this unit :)

  • i think expiry, no more clipping code thingie

    • Not sure why the link directs to the one sold by Gold Fever.. But the one sold by Amazon.com still shows the coupon for me.
