Pioneer A4 Wireless Speaker - Resealed $199 + $9.95 (RRP: $499) @ OO.com.au

120

Excellent speaker with a ton of a wireless connectivity options. It is a discontinued model, so the RRP is a bit disingenuous; however, for comparison, I could not get JB to go any lower than $305 when I bought it a few months ago.

I use it to AirPlay music off iPhone (including Spotify) and a Windows PC, plus I have AppleTV streaming the sound to it for all my Plex stuff, and it works flawlessly (no lag).

The Wirecutter had it as its best AirPlay speaker before it was discontinued, and there are bunch of overwhelmingly positive reviews online as well. E.g. http://www.soundandvision.com/content/review-pioneer-a4-wire…

    No nfc and Bluetooth

    • Is this is a portable speaker? If it's not why need NFC or Bluetooth?

      From the review:
"But what if you're not near WiFi? The A4 is capable of creating its own network, called Wireless Direct mode, which you can access directly from your phone, and stream music that way. It does this instead of Bluetooth, which isn't exactly known for sound quality."

      • ethernet option also

+1 to OP for both the deal and the use of disingenuous.

  • Jbhifi had them on sale new for around this price last year.

Not as good/versatile as sonos but good for the price!

I think that was the A1 on sale (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96445)…this is a much better (and bigger) speaker.

Should also mention, one of my favourite features is that you can see the speaker on the network even when it is off (or in sleep mode, I guess). That means it turns on automatically when you send anything to it.

      • I am sure I saw the A4 on sale around this price when I was looking… you could be right.
Either way… prefer my sonos speakers/system over this… but at this price point… its very good value!

Good find, didn't come up on staticice.

Upon inspection though, there is the same disclaimer of "cartons have wear and tear" at the bottom, so I imagine these are from the same "Resealed" lot.

I bought one of these overseas and love it, decent sound quality for the size.

This device can utilize spotify connect, which means the speaker set itself connects to the spotify service rather than your phone doing the work and then forwarding the audio (such as would be the case if you were using Bluetooth) - I usually start a spotify radio and leave it running all day.
