Looking for an awesome 3D blu-ray movie

I've had a Sony 3D capable TV for quite some time, but I've only just obtained a pair of 3D glasses for it. So, now I'm looking for an awesome 3D movie to see whether it's all worth it.

Online postings seem to suggest that the IMAX Under The Seas 3D movie is one of the best. However, I can't seem to find it locally, and on eBay it's over $50. My understanding is that my (any?) blu-ray player is not region free, so it has to be a local disc.

Can anyone please help me find this disc? Or recommend another (obtainable and reasonably priced) blu-ray that will show 3D at its best?

Thanks in advance!

  • There are only 2 regions for bluray. Region A for America, etc.
Australia is Region B, which is same as most Pal counties, eg Uk.

    $23

Not sure if this is the best price, deal, but cheaper than your $50.

edit: my bad. there are 2 imax sea films.

    • There are actually 3 blu-ray regions. Region C for countries such as China, India etc.

Here is an extract of the different blu-ray regions from wiki:
      Region code Area
A The Americas and their dependencies, East Asia, and Southeast Asia; excludes instances that fall under Region C.
B Africa, Middle East, Southwest Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and their dependencies; excludes instances that fall under Region C.
C Central Asia, mainland China, Mongolia, South Asia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the aforementioned regions' dependencies.

I am not into 3D movie myself but I have heard that Pacific Rim 3D is very good.

      • I had to keep taking breaks during pacific rim, the action scenes were incredibly hard to watch with the camera getting thrown around inside of the robots, gave me huge headaches and I generally don't have any problems with 3d. Wish I would have watched it in 2d but the robots did look very cool in 3d

  • +1

I watch a heap of 3d on my projector and honestly the imax movies are the most boring out of the lot and not that great 3d for me (and I like documentaries lots). Some of my favourites have been

Finding Nemo (amazing 3d because the ocean is infinite)
Gravity (same reason as finding nemo but not quite as good imo)
    Frozen
Oz the Great and Powerful (really cool 3d effects and very pretty)
    Final Destination 5
    Avatar
    How To Train Your Dragon
    Life of Pi
    Journey 2 Mysterious Island
Yogi (actually pretty cool popout 3d)
    The Hobbit movies
The Croods (nice and pretty, fairly short and really good 3d)

If you want cheap you can get a trial/month of quickflix or moviebase. I've used both several times and get 6 blurays a week usually, never any problems with them like I read lots.

  • I would suggest Gravity or Avatar.

  • Avatar would be the best.
Life of Pi and Gravity are good too.
