Avatar 3D Blu-Ray $2.31 + $4.95 P&H at Dick Smith eBay Store

650

Avatar 3D Bluray $9.93 delivered. The description says "Bonus when you purchase the Panasonic 50" HD 3D Plasma TH-P50XT50A TV or Panasonic 50" FHD Plasma TH-P50ST50A TV" but it appears they are selling the blurays on their own, especially since they don't have any Panasonic plasmas for sale on eBay or their normal website anymore.

Edit: Price drop! Now $7.26 delivered

Good. Something to fill the empty "Pocahontas in Space" slot I've had in my Blu-Ray collection.

    • +5

What about the Dances with Smurfs slot?

    • +1

      With huge 'ferntree gully' undertones.

I knew what I meant, and obviously you did too. :)

Saw it in the cinema when I was about 10yrs old.

        • +1

          @linton:

I call it Ferntree Gully as well. Haha

        • @Animus Furandi: I can tell you guys are from Melbourne…..

  • +1

Thanks OP. I have been waiting for a bargain on this one.

  • +4

Love the sticker on the picture - NOT FOR SALE - PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY -

  • +3

When I got my 50vt20 years ago this came for free with it.
Sold it for $190 on eBay

    • +8

Sold it for $190 on eBay

That's cheap for a 50" plasma. Was it broken?

      • +2

Sold avatar for that price as the only way to get it was with a Panasonic plasma. Also got a surround sound system via redemption which I sold for around $500. After all the discounts and selling the extras I was out of pocket $750 for the TV which was selling for $1800.

        • +3

should of sold the tv as well then.

        • +2

Man you sure ripped some one off badly selling one movie for $190.

    • +2

I did exactly the same! Sold the Panasonic "exclusive" Avatar 3D Bluray on Ebay for about ~$200 IIRC. The 50VT20 is still going strong. Was the best plasma out at the time, IMO 3D was & still is a gimmick though (depending how big your screen is).

Looking at sales history someone already bought 10 copies right after this deal was posted.

I'm tempted to buy 100 copies and undercut them to the point where there is no profit to be made :D

    • People still seem to be bidding up to $20 or so on this one. I'd rather the proper 3D release as opposed to a promo copy myself, but they should be able to make a few bucks on it. Worthwhile or not is debatable. You won't lose money reselling these once Dick Smith runs out, let's put it that way.

      • Pretty sure it's a "proper 3D release" and that they are just using a stock photo. Can't imagine the product they ship would actually say NOT FOR SALE. PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY.

        • +1

I just bought This Blu Ray from the DSE site, which was originally a bonus with a Sony TV.
          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/girl-with-dragon-tattoo-blu-ray-…
So yeah, they will sell promo copies

        • If this is a non promo copy I'd be very surprised because it would be drastically under cost price. They probably had a box of these left over from Panasonic promo from couple of years back.

        • +1

They must've been well hidden, cos Dickies staff could've made a killing on eBay way back when. We.all know what went on back when they ran a couple of gaming clearances.

        • @Goldberg: How is that in any way relevant to what I said?

        • Because what I purchased is a promo copy? And they sell promotional only copies of PS3 and Xbox titles, so why wouldn't they sell promo Blu Rays

        • @Goldberg: You bought a TV so maybe that's why you got a promo copy?

        • Did you read the post or look at the link? I purchased the Blu Ray.

        • @Goldberg: I've read and looked at it all. Maybe you should take another look at what you said.

I just bought This from DSE site, which was a bonus with a Sony TV

        • I am pretty sure this a Promotional Item and NOT proper release. Goldberg is spot-on!

          Read Condition:

Brand New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is available in a retail store, unless the item was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

        • +1

@xioxxio: lol. That's the default eBay description for "Brand New" items :D

        • Ok maybe I should have highlighted "WAS" a bonus. I thought the text in the link would've given it away that it is a Blu Ray.

        • @kamoi:
          ROLF

        • Edited To reflect that

        • Yeap.. I highly doubt that this would be the panasonic promo copy.. That said, I've been after a cheap copy of 3D avatar for ages.. perhaps the cost of it has recently come down as Mighty Ape also had cheapish copies going recently.. On a good day the cheapest price was $30.. $10 delivered, I can't complain..

        • @kamoi: your right he never said he purchased the TV. I think in the context of the conversation it was pretty clear.

  • Got one. Thanks OP

  • Bargain!!!

  • -4

thank got 5 for $30 delivered

  • nice - ordered :)

  • I dont remember titanic being that cheap. Avatar really sucked.

  • I don't suppose this includes a monoscopic (2D) copy?
You'd think a 3D player could output a single L or R version to a 2D TV, but mine refuses.

    • 3D Bluray movies are 'frame packed' meaning that it includes both left and right image in 1 frame, so the chances of your bluray player spitting out a singular frame would pretty much be nil.

  • You can order it via Click n Collect on the DSE site too, if you have a DSE nearby and want to save on the $4.95 delivery.

    • i don't think they sell it on dse site. therefore click and collect isn't avalable

    • Says page unavailable on the website :\

  • Bought! Thanks OP, now i need a 3D player and display

  • +3

Guess Broden found this and proceeded to buy 30?

    Edit: Out of stock.

Thanks to the guy who purchased the last 6. Because you purchased these whilst I was completing checkout, I missed out on buying a copy.

But you saved me $10, so I'm not too perturbed.

  • You would be better off going for the extended version anyway if your a fan of the movie, I believe this was only the standard cut

  • Still showing stock for me, they must have relisted it?

  • +1

Bluray case picture on the web page says not for sale, promotional use only. And yet they sold it. I wonder if Dick Smith has broken any agreements with Panasonic or the movie publisher. Probably.

    • Work for me .. bought 2…

      • +1

If only i didn't go to bed last night i missed out. But i already have the Avatar 2D Collector's bluray and i don't really need the 3D version when i don't even have a 3D TV. Must not buy things i don't need.

  • -2

Not a very entertaining movie at all, unless you are about 7 years old.

Skinny blue aborigines, a typically evil commander and cripple doing VR does not constitute adult entertainment.

Sigourney should only be in Sci-Fi films where something pops out of her chest screaming.

  • I have been looking for it. Keep checking …, it could be released again.

  • out of stock

    • Works for me

  • Dick Smith has a 95.9% seller rating? Are they really that bad or are people being harsh because they're dicks?

    • I'd say there's a reason for it. For example selling orders for the Pioneer SEMJ511W headphone when they didn't even have adequate stock and then substituting it for a Philips headphone which isn't even an over the ear like the Pioneer was. Things like that. In the past month alone Dick Smith on ebay has taken 281 negative and 146 neutral feedbacks.

  • Got the last one after checking it all day, thanks op

  • Back in stock

    • Yes. It's even cheaper. $2.31 plus shipping.

      • Wow those who paid $5 recently might feel slightly ripped. That's over half the price that they paid.

And this isn't even the retail version it's the Panasonic promotional not for sale 3D release. You were only supposed to get these as a bonus with the purchase of a Panasonic TV. Dick Smith should be giving these away with TV's not selling them.

        • For $10, for a 3D copy of the theatrical avatar is about what i'd want to pay for it. I could buy the expanded 3d version for $20-$30 but it's not really a movie that I care much about, and is about only one of a few that were actually shot with 3D cameras, as opposed to the majority of 3D live action movies that are processed from 2D to 3D.. I'm calling it a demo disk that is actually a 2.5 hr movie..

I'd guess that these are leftovers from the days when panasonic sold their 3d plasmas/lcds screens with the avatar promo disc. The reality is that these disks are quite possibly worthless as it's not an active promo from panasonic and would've, should've, could've sent them all back. The new management at DSE are probably going through any number of leftover items from woolworths days and are just clearing out what is effectively junk.

        • @Vladdo:

I think i'll settle for my Avatar Collector's Edition blu-ray. In any case 3D is over rated.

        • @hollykryten: 3D on home equipment is very ordinary.. Infact, the 3D effect is almost non existent.. Properly done 3D at a cinema, preferably imax, is quite spectacular.. Obviously Avatar and Gravity come to mind.. That said, if you've ever played 3D games on a PC, it's also pretty amazing.. Soooo can't wait for oculus rift..

      • Are you kidding me? I finally bit the bullet and decided to buy one last night.

  • I can confirm that these are infact the panasonic promo copies..

162 mins, so it's the theatrical release.. barebones and has obviously been sat around for some time as the some of the plastic seal had melted to the bluray case. Also, it was shipped from a reasonably local store, so I'd say that a lot of stores still have copies sitting in a back room and they've now been told to get rid of them..

    • Notice that the cover says promo use only, not for sale. Tisk tisk naughty Dick Smith selling these copies.

  • Wonder if Dick Smith will find any more tucked away at the back of the warehouse like they just did today. Then again if they had a proper stock control system they'd know exactly what's kept in the warehouse.

  • +1

I feel for the Broden who bought a 100 copies when it was selling at $4.95…NOT!

  • Out of stock again

  • -1

Got mine today. Paid $4.95. This is the first time I've actually purchased a movie on a blu ray disc. Then they reduce the price. That'll teach me for paying for movies ever again. Back to pirating.

    • It's sad when a movie pirate is saying that $5 for a brand new 3D blu-ray movie is a bit much. You were lucky to get a $5 price. That's really cheap considering that Avatar 3D blu-ray is going for $35.99 from JB Hi-Fi. And yet you complain about being charged $5. Get a grip!.

  • +2

Just got an email saying not enough stock and PayPal refunded my money. Well cock smith u can jam it up where the sun don't shine I have unsubscribed from all your bullcrap advertising and will never order another thing from you up yours.

    • What's new. Dick Smith online oversells on about every thing they have on sale. It's sad since you'd think a big retailer would have a stock control system which actually works.

  • Mine never arrived. I sent them an email with the tracking info, this indicated it never left their warehouse. Waited a few days. Sent them another message via eBay, got a response saying it was lost in transit. So they have provided a refund.

Next piece of email to arrive in my inbox was from …… yup, Dick Smith trying to flog other stuff.

    • It probably never even left the warehouse and was just claiming that it was lost in transit. I'm thinking lazy employee not really bothering to chase it up.
