They look nice, but is $5 off a bargain - not in my books.

    • +1

I agree that $5 isn't a huge amount off but I can guarantee that this is the cheapest they are going to be for a very long time.

Similar speakers sell for $80 in the US and with the increased costs in Australia in terms of shipping and GST I think this is great value! (of course I would say that though :P)

    • +2

When they are already the best speakers for the money, $5 off is actually making them MORE of a bargain.

Also rep, how long will they be this price for?

      • +1

We haven't really decided yet when this offer will be over - we will definitely put it back up to $99.99 when the speakers arrive in our warehouse though (on August 3rd). I think you'd be safe for the next week or so.

The reason for taking pre-orders is there is quite a lead time on manufacturing and we want to gauge how much interest there is so we can plan for our next order. There has been quite a lot of interest so far so our initial 500 pairs may not last very long.

  • Updated title after noting final shipping cost on purchase. Thanks Jay. Look forward to hooking them up next month.

    • +1

Just a note on how our shipping works. It costs us $13.20 to metro areas and it's very variable to country areas (so much so that for some areas we would be making a loss).

So for regional shipping we do the following:

<our cost price for shipping> - $13.20 = price you pay for shipping.

So while it may have been $4.50 in your case it could be far more for someone living in central Australia.

Great looking and easy to use website +1

  • Been waiting for this, elsewhere i saw some cheaper ebay amps recomended exapmple , anyone want to tell me getting these speakers and using those amps would be a super terrible idea given that I'm not ready to justify spending $200+

    • The Lepai amp is a great value amp with a good chip (TA2020) - the build is a bit cheap looking and some of the components a bit questionable but for the price you can't beat it. Would only recommend it for near field listening (or in a small room) though (same with the TP23 that we sell).

If you want to exploit the full power of the B44 you need something TK2050 based or bigger.

      • Near field listening means that you're close to the speakers? And when you say exploit the full power you mean volume? Basically I'm looking to use these as computer speakers so close is where they're likely to be (in a small room) and I'm pretty sure my new neighbours won't share my tastes in music so volume isn't a big deal.

        • From the sounds of it the Lepai should be fine for your purposes - i have not personally tested this but I have heard many success stories with the Lepai combined with speakers very similar to the B44.

We considered stocking the Lepai ourselves but were a bit concerned about return rates so elected for the better built Topping amps. The ozbargainer in me would definitely be tempted by the Lepai though.

  • Are these the same as Micca MB42X? The rep doesn't seem to be mentioning this anywhere

    • Hi Eeteka,

As you haven't got PMs turned on please email [email protected] and we may be able to provide you with further information. :)

      -Jay

      • Any reason why the extra information about these speakers is requiring PMs? Why not inform all potential purchasers at the same time? Or are there legal issues with copyright or something?

        • You are on the right track :)

        • @chiefbodge:
In that case can you please send me a PM with more info?
          Thanks :-)

    • I read somewhere that its the same, just rebranded to Voll for the Australian market.

  • Is this speaker the Australian re branded version of Micca Motion Series MB42?

    Amazon link below,
    http://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/…

    • The Voll site says: "To get the most out of your Voll B44 the DSP corrections provided by Noaudiophile.com are highly recommended. See here: http://noaudiophile.com/DSP_Corrections/Micca_MB42x.php"

    • The MB42 has no crossover (the crossover is a big deal trust me) and does not have magnetic covers :)

I can clarify further if you PM me or email [email protected]

      • Does the B44 have the crossover vis a vis the MB42X?

        • +1

Yep it does. Longer answer in PM

  • Will you be stocking topping tp30? It has RCA inputs and a USB DAC inside. Looking at the amps you are going to sell you're restricting to only one. I'd definitely bite if you were selling the tp30.

    • The TP30 has the 2024 chip which doesn't get the best reviews - it's also quite underpowered. We have chosen the TP23 and TP22 as we think they represent the best value to customers (TP23 for great value USB dac amp, TP22 for good value regular amp with 2 inputs and a decent amount of power from the TK2050 chip). We are very interested in getting the TP32EX in though - it may be quite expensive though but it's definitely the amp to rule them all.

  • Bugger! Great deal but I've just committed to a heap of rare vintage Hifi gear that has put me well into the red so I'll have to pass on these :( Would've loved a pair though! Maybe next time…

    • +2

have a chat with belle ;)

  • Hi Jay, any chance of a package deal on the speakers, USB amp, right angle plugs and cables?

    • If you put your order in for the USB amp and B44 together then shoot me an email with your email address I willl happily add 8 pieces of the right angled banana plugs to your order free of charge :) (Although you might want to consider 4 pieces of the right angled plugs and 4 pieces of the budget plugs as the right angled plugs may be a bit awkward on the amp side).

For anyone else that wants this deal - let me know also and I'd be happy to assist.

  • I have intention to use these speakers as rear surrounds, as theyre perfectly sized for my current setup. Do you suggest that these would be good for me? I plan to hook them up to a yamaha RX V373

    • This should work well. I don't know the specific amp but it does seem to go down to 2ohms so you shouldn't have a problem there. It has something called "Dynamic Power per Channel" which I am not sure how it works - you may need to set the rear channels to 4ohms in the amplifier menu or something?

    • i cant imagine these are that great for front speakers

      for rears maybe?

4" cone and 60hz means you lose a lot of low end

probably better off spending a bit more and getting studio monitors?

      • It is definitely for rears. I am using JMAX speakers for fronts which are a bit bigger and have an accusound centre. Bit of a mix and match for sure, but found out about the JAMO wenge a little bit too late and also didnt have room to put towers in the room.

Thanks for the advice, think i will order some!

  • I want to use these speakers with my LG LCD TV, which only has optical out. Any recommendations on what cheapish DAC I can use to connect them up?

    • +1

I can't say I have had a lot of experience with optical DACs but one brand I would steer away from is Muse - I have one and it's very noisey. Hopefully someone else has some suggestions.

    • +2

This may interest you goobar http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200798785013?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

      what amp are you using?

      • I don't have an amp? Sorry not really very knowledgeable on audio set ups. I guess it must be possible to get a DAC & amplifier in one box? (Similar to one of the Topping ones above, but with optical in rather than USB in)

        Thanks guys.

        • +2

You will need an amp for the speakers goobar due to the speaker cable. If you are looking for speakers attached to your TV then you will likely need powered speakers with a built in amp, such as audioengines or the like http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Powered-Speaker-Systems and connect via RCA.

Audioengine tend to rate highly which you may be able purchase locally at $200+ for the base model A2.The A2+ have a built in DAC at around $300 plus shipping.

If you were to go for the Volls then the setup would look something like: TV-optical cable-DAC-RCA cable-AMP(such as the Topping)-Speaker cable-Speakers
          Volls -$95
          DAC (as above) $125
          AMP - (as above) $100
Plus shipping and bibs and bobs say $50
For a total of about $370

You can get some nice old amps on ebay or a garage sale for a good price and the DAC may not be crucial for TV. Often you see things like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-Amplifier-Thorn-Model-403… and it can give you something to build on.

Do you have any components such as CD player or console?

        • +1

          Good advice cornbeef.

We have some samples coming in the next couple of weeks from our manufacturer which are essentially Voll B44s with an integrated amplifier. Not sure if we'll be selling these yet or not (it depends on how they perform) but if we do they will be in the next container load (not the current one that's coming now).

Price will be $140 or $150 if we do choose to stock them.

        • +1

@cornbeef: Thanks cornbeef, sounds like a lot of work to get these Volls for my TV. I don't have anything else connected to the TV, and it only has optical out (no RCA)

        • +1

@chiefbodge: Looks promising, make sure to post a bargain if you guys get them :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just bought one to upgrade my current surround speakers.

  • +1

Just received an update from our shipping agent and the shipment has ended up on a later vessel than we expected at the changeover in Singapore. This has unfortunately meant that we wont be able to ship the speakers to customers until the 11th or 12th of August.

Anyone who ordered has been notified via email. Apologies for this delay - we're as keen to get our hands on the speakers as much as everyone else!

  • +1

Just letting everyone know that this deal will be active until 12pm on Monday - the container will arrived early next week if everything goes smoothly with customs.

Thank you to the ozbargain community and all the people who have preordered, it's been instrumental in bringing the B44 to Australia. Can't wait to hear everyones feedback when they receive them :)

  • With my limited knowledge of music amplification, if my amp states 6Ω Impedance then these speakers are a not an advisable pairing, is that correct?

    • Generally speaking it's not a good idea to power speakers of a lower resistance than what is printed on your amplifier (for example 4ohm speakers on an 8ohm amplifier). This is because it can put additional load on the amplifier that it's not designed to handle and can damage it.

That said as long as you keep the volume on the amp below say 2/3 then you'll probably be fine

    • You should be OK as long as you take it easy with the volume control and keep an eye on temperatures. Most Amps have quite a few protective measures in place including thermal cut-off & overload protection so even if you did crank it up it should cut out before any real damage is done.

Of course we have no idea what your Amp is so maybe it has no protection at all but even still I can't see you having a problem. If you wanted to run less than 4Ohms then yeah that could be an issue.

  • +1

Just to give an update to those who originally pre-ordered. The container arrived in Adelaide very early on Tuesday morning (about 3 days late) and we expected it to be delivered to our warehouse and shipped to customers the next day. Unfortunately the container has been randomly selected for inspection by customs/aqis and this process is a bit variable in length. We are told that most containers are cleared for delivery in a couple of days so we are hoping for a thursday or friday delivery to customers.

Really sorry about all these delays - in hindsight we should've left more leeway when estimating a delivery date. All customers will receive an email confirmation a couple of hours after their order ships with the order tracking number.

  • Another update: Many preorders were shipped today and the remaining will be shipped tomorrow. Any orders made to the website from now on should be shipped within 1 business day.
