$28.80 shipping to Melbourne
Wow, didn't expect it to be that bad. I prefer $15 !
Samsung 1TB SATA II Silencer Series 32M(HD103UI/Y) from Umart QLD looks better :p … well maybe not … 5400rpm >_<
ID rather 7200RPM
If you are building RAID 5 or 6 NAS, then you will find 5400rpm drives are much better than the 7200rpm ones. Cooler, lower noise, and you save some power… :)
I would rather pay an additional $15 to get the WD or Seagate brand from MSY for the extra two years of warranty. Past experiences tell me hard drives are getting unreliable these days and often die within five years.
Agree. The $15 postage is a turnoff. Id rather walk into a Umart/MSY shop, pay $114 for a seagate 1TB.
Does Seagate still offer 5 years?
Not on desktop drives. Maybe Enterprise versions.
Deal breaker for me was that I need two, but they only let me orded one per day. I really don't want to pay the postage twice.
What sort of reputation do the Deskstar drives have these days? They used to be called 'Deathstar' for a reason unfortunately.
It was the IBM deskstars that had the reputation, but that was years ago.
Thanks for that. Are Hitachi and IBM connected in any way? Vaguely remember something but not quite sure. Didn't one buy the others HDD business? Probably completely off key here… hmmm…
Yeah, I thought I remembered Deskstar being the IBM homebrand for HDDs.
Hitachi bought IBM's hard drive division in 2002. / 'Deathstar’ reference.

Thanks TeaEarlGreyHot. Thought I remembered something.
Good price but Hitachi is one of the last brands I'd get in the 1TB range. Nothing against them and no this isn't another "death star" comment, but Hitachi were the first to crack 1TB and unless these drives are different they achieved it by using 5x200GB platters. The end result is a drive that runs very hot and has more chance of failure than other brands. That said if this is a new revision with fewer platters my argument goes out the window.
If you must get 7200rpm I reckon the WD's are better. I myself have several Samsung EcoGreens (5400rpm) and love them.
Not a bad deal, but just not the best either (my 2 cents)
FYI: The 7K1000 uses 5 platters, whereas the 7K1000.B uses 3.
"Where the 7K1000 contains 200GB platters, however, the 7K1000.B makes use of 375GB platters—dense enough that Hitachi could build a 1.125TB drive out of them."
sry but $130 delivered is crap
