This is a great purchase for the home tinkerer, or if you have a project in mind.

I am not 100% sure of the expiry time, as they state it runs for 2 weeks, but no definitive date/time.

Here's a copy and paste from the site:

Bonus points if you use this to discover how to hack the World Cup "Hawkeye" and change the course of history ;)

  • I guess if I don't understand any of the abbreviations it is a waste of time buying this thing?

    • I took the approach of buying it because I don't understand :) A relatively cheap way to have a play and learn.

      • where did you enter the code ?

433MHz version is showing 'out of stock' and it never gave me a chance to enter a code. I went all the way thru and ended up cancelling the order afterwards. I paid with paypal.

it was on the payment choice page (credit card, paypal, etc), inside the red block to the right

About the third or fourth step through checkout, I noticed a "coupon code" field (or something similar) on the right-hand side of the screen, just under the listing of your shopping cart contents.

915MHz and 433 MHz are legal in Australia, provided you don't exceed the maximum power. Do a google search for "filetype:pdf lipd class license", and click on the ACMA document for details on what frequencies and what powers are pemitted.

Even though all of them are out of stock, you can still order. I did, and received a confirmation email saying:

We have received your order and will process it as soon as possible.

You will receive an e-mail within 24 hours that includes the estimated shipping date for in stock items, or a backorder date for products not currently available. Once these items are packed and ready to be shipped from our warehouse, you will receive a shipping notification with the carrier name and tracking number of your item(s). Your credit card will not be charged until we ship the item(s) to you. If you would like a real time status of your order, please visit your personal My Account Page.

Wonder if I could program this to tell me if I'm about to cross the line when I'm arguing with my other half…

    • +3

Don't need a watch for that. If you open your mouth, you're crossing the line.

This sucks - I bought one last year at full price but its still sitting in the box due to not having the time to play with it (OK, so I've wasted all my time on ozbargain instead)

  • Hey I sent an email to TI webstore a week ago asking when these would be back in stock and they said August. What gives?

  • Awesome, ordered. Thanks.

  • Sorry this might be a stupid question but can we use 915 in Australia (i know it's listed best suited for N America) but from wiki it seems to have better wireless range. I'm a noob for this tech. Thanks

Evaluation on the 433 MHz version is on-going, but the range is likely to be shorter as a 433MHz antenna can't be much bigger inside the watch housing compared to the other versions. More information will follow once results are available.

In Australia, only 3mW is allowed at 915MHz, while 25mW is allowed at 433MHz. From memory, these devices can only output 10mW, so really it's 3mW@915MHz vs 10mW@433MHz.

Also, free-space attenuation increases with frequency, so the theory says 433 should get better range for the same power. As 433 will also have more than 3x the power, range should be better again.

However, at this power level, your maximum range is usually limited more by everything else that is transmitting around you. In America it might be different, but here you have Telstra 3G at 850MHz and GSM at 920-960MHz. Just like it's hard to hear a whisper when everyone else nearby is yelling at you, your range at 915MHz is likely to be limited by the interfering signals.

  • Looks like the worldwide code has expired already.

    • for the 433 MHz version (that I wanted) yep, expired.

So did I miss out because I was too blind, or did chrome (or some add-in) hide it frmo me. When I tried again just now I used IE (assuming that was the best chance of it working as intended, loyalty between large US corporatins etc)

    • Get the 915 one

  • Got an email this afternoon that the watch has been sent. It originally said on back order so quite happy.

  • Already received mine…great service :)

  • Received mine watch a couple of days ago. A real bargain for the pricetag with lots of potential applications. TI have a great wiki with projects and support.

  • Mine was posted and is on its way, but I found that I have been charged twice; once when I ordered it, and once when it was shipped. I don't know if I need to complain to paypal or TI though.
