  • I don't think they are able to mirror apple devices yet. If you can then its interesting device

    • This youtube video shows it can miracast apple devices.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQYPI0rbvWs

      • this vid is a bit concerning since it shows that the ipad is actually connecting to the ezcast device rather than their regular wifi network. This might potentially cripple your usage since you no longer have access to the internet nor your local network.

        • Chromecast connects in the same way.

Dongle to TV > Connects to your WIFI network

Your Device to Dongle > Connects to Dongle WIFI

        • Chromecast connects in the same way.

          No it does not.

Miracast uses an ad-hoc network, not your home wifi lan.

It differe from Chromecast in many fundamental ways.

          http://www.webpronews.com/android-tablet-how-miracast-works-…

  • Am I able to push YouTube videos to this, like I can on a Chromecast?

    • I'd say so….

      • With chrome, your phone tells the dongle to stream from youtube.
With miracast, your phone does the download, and sends h264 to the TV.

Chromecast does not "mirror" except in special cases, such as the web-browser plugin.

  • Anyone know if this will work with a Samsung Galaxy note 8.0?

No mention of Miracast in specs for Note 8.0 but it has Samsung Allshare and there seems to be a few references saying Miracast should work, but I can't find anything definite.

    • +1

Any droid v4.2+ can do it. Even my Toshiba AT100 with Honeycomb can cast onto my EZcast dongle. You can DL the EZcast app to send videos to it.

I haven't tried Chromecast yet but I'm not sure what advantage Chromecast have over these dongles actually.

      • Thanks. Had a quick look at chromecast, they seem to be more restrictive with what they can mirror but may be more reliable/stable than this one.

  • Sounds interesting, has anyone tried this? Does it work well?

    • +1

Waste of time. Hit or miss. Slow, Freeze. In theory this should be better than Chromecast.Tried and wasted few hours.

  • it works with all devices but very slow, most of the time require start up all over again, a very cheap product

    • "most of the time require start up all over again"

      huh?

      • I think he meant that the device requires a restart from time to time.

        • correct

    • Very slow as in laggy interface, but displays videos and photos ok?

      • true

      • Videos and photos are mostly fine through EZCast - high bitrate 1080P can be a problem but I think thats more to do with wireless throughput than anything. Miracast screen mirroring you'll be getting something like 15FPS with noticeable lag and video stutter so its more for slideshow presentations than anything.

        • So no good for mirroring apps that stream video?

        • If you want to do something like mirroring sbs world cup app to tv or something, then you're out of luck really.

        • Thanks blahman. This looked like a nice wireless option but it looks like an MHL cable may have to do for now.

Don't suppose you (or anyone else) have used other miracast dongles? Wondering if there's something better out there that performs well enough to display streaming from apps?

  • I have 2 of these. Note to potential buyers:

They are lengthier than they look - the HDMI input's on my TV faces down and they can't fit in it due to space constraints. Check your tv first. They also didn't plug into my projector because the connector on this device is too fat so if you have any ports right next to the HDMI input of your device then this can't be plugged in.

I have yet had the time to test mine yet simply because they don't fit in any of my devices.

    • How'd you end up with 2 then??

      • they were on special from an overseas website and I had 2 projectors in the house. So I thought "Why not?". Turns out I couldn't get them to fit in any of my devices lol. The only way is for me to get a HDMI extension cable which kinda defeats the purpose of having these anyway. Oh well.

  • Sounds like an MHL cable hardwired to TV hdmi in will work better than this…

  • Would anyone know if I could emulate a snes emulator from my windows 7 laptop and mirror it on the tv?

    • +1

you probably could mirror snes emulator but the lag and framerate would be terrible better off just connecting the laptop via hdmi or vga and using wireless controller , i am currently playing ps2 games on macbook via hdmi using a wireless 360 controller and also played some split screen 4 player mario kart 64 on the weekend, much fun

      • I'll just do that then, sounds good. thanks

  • wahts the resolution output of one of these?

    • It depends on your device's file itself.

      • If our devices can do 1080 x 1920 will the AW2 be able to achieve this? If not what is the max?

        • Hi lucjack,

According to our professional staff, the answer is yes.And the max supports is 1080P.

        • Thanks!

        • You're welcome.:)

  • Price is in USD $20.13 in AUD
