  • I got one last time but yes, even at $255 it's a good deal.

  • This is a great deal. Thanks OP. Incidentally, there is no mention in the T&Cs about employee/affiliate bans. A member of my family somehow got an account at the Treasury Wine Estates employee and friends portal and the discounts can often be impressive.

Given the lack of an affiliate clause and the statement for off premise consumption from any licensed liquor retailer in Australia (Retailer) (online purchases permitted), I can't see why they couldn't buy the booze at discount from Penfolds and then claim for a Vintec here too.

    • Treasury Wine Estates employee and friends portal

care to share details with your ozbargain friends? :)

I can't see why they couldn't buy the booze at discount from Penfolds and then claim for a Vintec here too.

      +1

      • They got one as a favour through a friend more linked with the company. That was as far as the friendship extended, and I've not been able to secure one for myself.

If I ever get more info that can be acted on, I can guarantee it'll be shared here =)

        • I've actually got a membership to the TWE staff cellar through a mate who works there.
They have the odd special which I jump on (I nabbed a couple of those 2010 St Henri's a few months back) but generally their prices aren't great.
For example - current (discounted) price for the Bin-9 Cab Sauv & Bin-51 Eden Valley is $173.40.

        • nobody want in?

      • we are all friends right? pm email

    • Has anyone confirmed if staff purchases are allowed under this offer.

  • saving for later date thanks OP i might get one for my grange

    Cabinet sauvignon?

    • +1

The deal would sound so much more enticing if it was "6 x Cabernet and 1 x Cabinet for $404 delivered".

      • +1

        $404? ERROR ERROR. ERROR!

  • "delivered within approximately 16 weeks"

Crikey! Who knows where I'll be in 4 months time!

    • +5

If you don't know where you'll be in four months, perhaps a wine fridge is not a priority purchase for you.

      • +1

Maybe dan199 was just kidding. otherwise you are really considerate :)

  • I thought it had to be an independent retailer (ie not Dan Murphys/Vintage Cellars.)

Those t&cs above (from where?) don't mention. Independent retailers are usually expensive.

  • The links are not working anymore - does anyone know if this is still available?

    • It's not a matter of if its still available… it never started (above terms start start date of 1/7/2014). Maybe we need to wait until July and see if it reappears again?

      • see if it reappears again?

        it will :)

        http://www.tweglobal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Step-change-in-TWE’s-business-model-to-drive-sustained-long-term-growth_-13389862.pdf

One example of the step-up in consumer marketing that will take place in fiscal 2015 is the Penfolds consumer promotion - commencing July 2014 it will be the biggest consumer promotion TWE has ever undertaken. For any 6 bottles of Penfolds Bin Series or Icon & Luxury wines purchased, consumers in Australia will be able to purchase an exclusive refrigerated wine cabinet which stores up to 32 wine bottles at a significantly reduced price. The campaign is expected to run for three months and will be available in many off-premise retail locations.

  • Sent off the claim form today for the wine fridge. Purchased the Bin 51 for $140.94 comes down to $125.44 with 11% cashback. Don't know where I will keep this little wine fridge, already have a big 166 bottle one but I am sure it will come in handy.

  • Does anyone think Penfolds Club Reserve Classic Tawny meets the terms? http://www.penfolds.com/en/Wines/Fortified-Wines/Club-Reserv…
the label does say, you can zoom in on Dan Murphy's site here; https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_84239/penfolds-club…, that "Exceptional wines are selected" it is also listed under the wines tab on Penfolds site. $13.29 each in single bottle buy at Dan Murphy's. Can't see it excluded in the terms of the offer.

  • Completed the online form today as well. My claim number was 10003XX, so maybe 300+ have been redeemed already?

I went for the Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz @$30 per bottle as I prefer Reds.

Not sure about the Tawny, but not worth the risk for me if this were to cause redemption to fail some months down the track.

  • I would say that means 300+ have been claimed already as I was 10000XX, so my number was less than 100.

    • wow i was 10056xx so by that logic over 5600 pplz have claimed? Did mine on the 15th (half way throught he month) Hope not.. really don't want to have to wait the 16 weeks they indicated it could take, that's ages! 4 months.. it'll be nearly summer by then… lol hopefully my wine will not subject to heat before then!

Can someone post when they receive the physical fridge itself and your claim no? Would be interesting to see how fast they are.

GUess being in the 5000s im gonna have a big wait compared to the first few hundred.. sigh.

  • can't believe i didn't know about this!

If you are looking for something vintage cellars have bin 128 at same price as everyone pretty much, but with a bonus cellar share (~$25 value gift voucher) on 6 bottle buys.

    https://www.vintagecellars.com.au/Red%20Wine/penfolds-bin-12…

  • Good Deal , just completed the online form. Thanks :)

  • Found a good way to get this deal.

Open up a new account via the link here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/140137.

You'll get a $25 credit, with which to buy some Penfold's. I got Bin 9 Cab Sav (price is now $160 with DM's), going for $161.94 + $7 delivery.

This comes down to $143.89 with delivery, but pay with your Amex, and if you've saved the current credit deal, you'll get a $20 credit, bringing it to $123.89.

Not the best wine now, but should age well in its new fridge!

  • I've just purchased 6 x Penfolds Winemaker's Selection Shiraz Cabernet 2011 from Cellarmasters. This came to $92.09, less a $25 Cellarmasters Everyday Rewards voucher my boss gave me to use (I will have to donate 2 bottles to my colleagues).

While not a Bin series, or a 'Luxury' wine, the Winemaker's Selection is nevertheless not Thomas Hyland, Koonunga Hill or Rawson's Retreat and is therefore eligible for the purposes of claiming.

So all up, $312.09 for the fridge and 4 bottles of booze. Not bad at all.

    • Good luck if you are eligible! see number 2

      http://penfoldsvintec.com.au/static/help.html

      • I think that the more generous interpretation in the T&Cs ('any' Penfolds wine other than Thomas Hyland, Koonunga Hill or Rawson's Retreat; see http://penfoldsvintec.com.au/static/termsandconditions.html) trumps the FAQs…

A former colleague has just gone to work for Treasury Wine Estates' legal branch so I shall have words if it is not honoured… ;-)

6 x Penfolds Winemaker's Selection Shiraz Cabernet 2011 from Cellarmasters. This came to $92.09

      $96 delivered @ http://www.winemarket.com.au/Penfolds-WS-shiraz-cab-2012 with FIRSTCLASS :)

      • $96 for 12 :)

        • yes 12 not 6 which means 2 cabinets :)

        • @tonester:

Yup - certainly a better deal than Cellarmasters, but making my boss feel appreciated and ingratiating myself with my colleagues goes a lot further for me personally. ;-)

No word yet from TWE/Penfolds as to whether my claim based on 'Winemaker's Selection' has been accepted.

If you're into port, Penfolds Club Tawny (at $9.49 per bottle from Uncle Dan's) is also eligible… https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_73070/penfolds-club…

        • If you're into port, Penfolds Club Tawny (at $9.49 per bottle from Uncle Dan's) is also eligible…

          thanks - deal updated :)

        • The 12 x Penfolds Winemaker's Selection Shiraz Cabernet 2012 is now $113 delivered. Is this still one of the best value (non Tawny port) wine deals eligible for this fridge offer?

  • I hope so for you too. That was my interpretation of the T&C's for purchases of Penfolds Club being eligible early on in the piece without actually being 100% as Penfolds Club is not or Bin series or Luxury wine. I only had a look at this help section last night and noticed the list of eligible wines with Penfolds club being on it and winemakers selection not. Maybe the list will get updated when your claim is looked at, as reading the T&C's it winemaker's selection should be. The landing page for the promo does say Penfolds Bin Series or Luxury Wine so it looks like someone has stuffed up!

    • Well, I've printed a copy of the T&Cs to keep handy, just in case!

  • +1

Have you got the wine yet? it will be interesting to see what the back label says as it seems to fall into the Koonunga Hill range. If it does not mention Koonunga Hill anywhere you will meet the T&C's but could have a battle but hopefully not, how where you to know.

    https://www.treasurytru.com/brand/penfolds?detect_width=2560…

    • +1

That's the US site though, and there's both a Koonunga Hill Cab Shiraz and a Winemaker's Selection Cab Shiraz (with similar blends, alcohol content, description etc but no mention of Koonunga Hill)…

https://www.cellarit.com.au/71412/penfolds-winemaker%27s-sel… has pix of both the front and back. No mention of 'Koonunga Hill', 'Thomas Hyland' or 'Rawson's Retreat' anywhere on it. The wine itself is also nowhere to be seen on Penfolds' Australian site.

I've posted the form off today, so it will be interesting to see how this is handled…

  • I hope it all goes through okay for you. You meet the T&C's so should be good.

  • Winecow seem to have penfolds bin 9 for $24.99 per bottle with free shipping - which is one of the cheapest I have seen

Just wanted to let peeps here know I bought the Winemaker's Selection Shiraz Cabernet 2011 from Cellarmasters like Melso last week, and my claimed got validated today! Great deal

    • My claim has been validated too, so the Winemarket deal for 12 for $96 looks okay…

      • thanks - deal updated :)

Has anyone checked the power consumption ratings on the fridge

The model for the promotion is V30SGME - which is slightly old model in comparison to the new model V30SGMEBK
    http://www.vintec.com.au/index.php?section=products&id=60

The new version of this fridge states ELECTRICTY CONSUMPTION 1kWh / per day
    whereas the manual http://www.vintec.com.au/edit_content/products/%28v26-v40-v3…
    states power input 85w.

24 hours per day * .085 KW ~= 2kWh / per day - so roughly double what is quoted

Origin Energy here in Brisbane is charging me 26.73 c/kWH

365 days per year * 1 kWh per day * .2673 $/kWH (Origin Energy) ~= $97 per year in energy to run the wine fridge

    versus

365 days per year * 2 kWh per day * .2673 $/kWH (Origin Energy) ~= $195 per year in energy to run the wine fridge

    • +2

85W input doesn't mean it is constantly running at 85W consumption. Total consumption and average power will vary based on environment and use of the fridge. The compressor will cycle periodically to maintain a constant temp.

Good figures though to think about the annual running costs.

      • +1

haha could turn off the fridg ein winter as the temperatures will stay well within the 10-20c range for cooling purposes anyway for red wine? I don't think it would result in a huge temperature fluctuations during winter anyway which ruins the wine too?

Anyone done this? It does sound alittle cost cutting extreme…. but it would cut out alot of energy consumption for a good month or two.

    • I am guessing that 85w is only when the thermostat kicks the motor in action, then goes to a lower idle once temperature is down again. So 1KWh per day is probably an average and roughly correct.

Laura also contacted me today, I bought the Winemaker's selection and she said it was not eligible. Looks like I might have a fight on my hands.

Laura mentioned that no fridges have been redeemed by purchasing Winemaker's selection and asked me to provide evidence of anybody that claims to the contrary (with their claim number).

Melso / Hweita - I don't suppose you have some claim numbers I can throw in their face?

      • Throw the T&Cs in her face.

        • Precisely - it's 'any' wine other than Koonunga Hill, Rawson's Retreat, or Thomas Hyland. Because Winemaker's Selection is not represented as being in any of these ranges, it's eligible, notwithstanding that it's not on an FAQ/Salesdroid list of officially approved wines…

        • @MELso: Yep have done so. They've said the dispute has been escalated and they are going to get back to me. Will keep you posted

        • @MELso:

Though do you have a claim number or similar? I purchased Winemakers Selection based on earlier commentary and this new revelation came while it was in transit. I'm going to point all this stuff out when they inevitably decline the offer, but info is ammo.

        • @tplen1:

Yes, I have a claim number, but will not be revealing it publically lest I run into the same problems. Sorry.

        • The initial posters who bought the Winemakers selection probably got it approved because they were a little slow to post the list of eligible wines. Now that list is readily available you should have been a little cautious with getting the winemakers selection.

In the end the Bin ranges start from $25+/bottle, and the Tawny is $10+/bottle - so no real reason for not spending a little more for a better drop of wine.

I am fairly sure that the bin series in general are a better quality wine than the winemakers selection and so you based your decision mostly on price. I mean the wine fridge is $255!

Was it really worth the trouble and dispute by buying a bottle off the list? only time will tell. Good luck to you

        • @prozerran:

Valid points, though I'd purchased well before it was a known issue, and the matter wasn't nearly as clearcut when the now-offline site was all we had to prepare with.

For what its worth, I've got a ton of eligible Penfolds that was purchased during an ineligible period (finished a bottle of St Henri last week for instance) but I bought this on the logic that I wanted some quaffers for weeknights and cooking wine, and if I got a fridge out of it it would be even better.

Regardless, I'm sure the legal department will send out way longer T&Cs next time there is a deal.

      • Update - success. They said they disagreed with my argument, but agreed to validate my claim out of goodwill.

Whoever is correct, good form by Penfolds. Although have a feeling their legal team is going to cop a big spray…

Couple of days left in the promotion and it doesn't look like they've updated the T&Cs either

        • Do you think it's safe to try now or better to go for one of those actually listed?

        • @dtox:

I think listed will be safer.

@tbonez, very glad to hear, and I'm hoping I'll hear the same from them too (no contact since sending claim by mail).

        • dtox - Yeah would go a listed wine, especially since some others here have picked ones up in the $25 range. That is, unless you feel like picking a fight with their marketing team

Also, 12,000 fridges (!) have been sold, so guessing delivery could take a while

          http://www.smh.com.au/business/retail/would-you-like-a-fridg…

tplen1 - The number they called me on is 03 9697 1400 if you want to follow up

  • Did anyone who got the fridge the last time they did a similar deal remember how delivery was? I wont be home so if I miss the delivery date do they allow arrangement of pickup like how aus post keeps your undelivered parcels at their domestic warehouse etc? Would suck if you missed delivery and it got sent back over east and you had to pay delivery again?! because the vintec guy did say it was a private courier co doing deliveries.

  • Thanks OP.
    Ordered one.
Perfect timing as my el cheapo fridge is on its last legs.

    • +1

Just so you aren't disappointed, this wine cabinet maintains conditions ideal for wine cellaring (approx 12-14 deg C, with humidity levels above 55% to keep the cork in good condition). It won't chill wine or beer down to 4c which is a more typical fridge temperature. Think of it as long term storage rather than as somewhere you put things to prepare them for drinking.

      • +1

Read this link, that has the specifications for the wine fridge temperatures. It can be used as a serving cabinet for Champagne and white wine, down to a temperature of 6c. Your information is more on what it does on the cellaring side. http://penfoldsvintec.com.au/static/V30SGME_Flyer.pdf

Perfect as a cellaring cabinet for red and white wines (when set at cellaring temperature 12°-14°), or as a serving cabinet for white wines and champagne (set at 6°-8°) or red wines (set at 16°-18°), the vintec v30SGMe is a freestanding cabinet that ensures your wines are stored in the perfect conditions.

Maybe you got your info from one of the statements in FAQ No.5, in the Penfolds help document from the promo page, where they contradict themselves and must have not looked at the specs of the wine fridge in the link they provided. Must have been the same person who wrote the terms and conditions!

        http://penfoldsvintec.com.au (click help for FAQ)

Does the Vintec wine cabinet keep wine cold?

No, the Vintec Wine Cabinet is designed to keep wine at the perfect cellaring temperature of 12 – 14 degrees Celsius. It is not a fridge for chilling white wine.

        • Thanks for your advice guys.
I should also clarify my "el cheapo fridge" is also a wine cellaring cabinet.
Bad choice of words on my behalf.
Be assured I will not be disappointed with the the vintec.

  • Received 2 x fridges on Friday this week. Delivery driver mentioned something like 6,000 to be delivered in the next two months.
My parents home is also receiving their two as well next week, haven't had a chance to open yet.

So not too bad delivery wait time wise, I'd say about 3 weeks max all up including time from submitting/ claim / postage/

    • My parents also received their two fridges on the 2nd August (Saturday delivery) Approx 3 days apart from my first claim.

  • Has anyone else received confirmations or deliveries? I submitted a claim on 23 July and am yet to get a yay or neigh.

I received email yesterday - "Your claim has been validated"

      "Hi,

Our fulfilment partners, Vintec Australia or M3 couriers will be in touch with you in the coming weeks to confirm the specific delivery date of your wine cabinet.

      Kind regards,

      Submitted my claim 24 July.
      Hope this helps.
