Motorola Moto G $209 3G dual-sim 16GB version with free delivery from DWI

60

Update 30 June: DWI has cut its price by $10 to $209 shipped. Kogan re-offered this Moto G version for $209 delivered (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150428) on 26 June, but pulled the offer down after about a day, so this is again the best offer I can see in the market.

This is the older 3G dual-sim 16GB version of the Moto G, without an SD slot. The newer 4G version with SD slot is just coming onto the market but costs more.

This deal is now as good as the intermittent Kogan $209-shipped deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150428), and the best current price for this bargain-basement midrange smartphone. If you want a Chromecast device, DWI is bundling them for $39 extra, rather than Google's $49 - so for a few wanting Chromecast, it is even better than the Kogan deal. And DWI's ProductReview scores are better than Kogan's, so you may do better on service.

I've posted mostly because the phone itself is so good. It's rated 2nd-best cell phone on Test Freaks with a 9.9 score (http://www.testfreaks.com/cellphones/motorola-moto-g/), behind only the Galaxy Note 2. Reviewers and users both like it. I bought one a few weeks ago for my son and he's very happy with it. (I paid $270 from MobiCity.)

It's a terrific phone and monumentally good for the money; if someone said I had to give up my HTC One and use it all the time, I'd have no problems. It has a fine 4.5 inch 720x1280 screen (329 ppi, just above the iPhone 5), great battery life, is very smooth in use, and has a clean interface that is close to stock Android. The processor copes fine with HD streamed TV off a Synology NAS. And it feels premium - heavyish, but nice in the hand. The 16GB storage, 5MP camera and non-replaceable battery are the most obvious weak points. But hey, $219 …

The 16GB version will be most people's preference because of the extra storage over the 8GB, which can now be found for around $200 (see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150275).

One point to note is that while the 3G Moto G lacks SD expansion, it supports USB on-the-go (OTG), so you can plug plenty of USB storage into it via a cheap little cable or specialised USB stick or SD card reader such as the Meenova (http://www.meenova.com/). Until Google supports OTG better, you'll also need Nexus Media Importer ($4 on Google Play) or similar software.

Comes with UK charger and UK-to-AU adaptor. Free delivery offer is metro only.

  • Slightly better at DSE right now: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150275

      That's the 8GB model

      • Heh, I was editting to say that when you posted and stopped it.

    • DSE's version is an 8Gb model, this is a 16Gb model.

I'm guessing this is a grey import, and if so isn't this a fairly standard price?

    • With prices continually dropping, there is no "standard price", only a series of better bargains, until the phone is no longer sold or desired.

      • Yes I'm well aware of the fundamentals of capitalism. What I'm saying is that there are many grey import sites selling this phone at this price or cheaper.

  • Price is the lowest I could find, and I was surprised how low it's dropped since mid-May. I paid $270 then and felt I was getting a bargain.

    • Well, with Android phones, the prices drop everyday because new models which are faster and have better specs come out everyday.

  • I bought this from Amazon (16gb) this month for AUD$219 shipped. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone would prefer to buy from Amazon over DWI.

I'm loving the phone. It's brilliant for the money.

    • I currently see $221.25 delivered from Amazon US. So it's pretty close if you have a US-to-Oz power adapter lying around, and want Amazon reliability. Certainly a good place to check. On the other hand, I was surprised by how good DWI's scores are on productreview.com.au - a 4.3 average, compared to Amazon's 3.8 and Kogan's 3.9.

      • FYI, no power adapter is included with the phone, just a USB cable.

Was cheaper from Kogan when they had free shipping I think I paid 209. Excellent phone

  • What are the delivery times for DWI stuff? I bought one of these on the ebay 15% off deal, still haven't received an e-mail to say it was posted.

    • I got mine about 1 week after ordering. The notification was sent a day or two after the order, IIRC.

      • Cheers, guess I'll have to be patient

  • My nephew has this phone…. I've had a little go of it…. For the price it's a great phone…. I currently use a nexus 5, this phone I would happily use if anything ever happened to my N5

    • Really. So if like me using a Nexus 4 now, I would probably be happy with this too apart from downsizing the screen a little. I would prefer to go up to a Nexus 5 when they become a bit cheaper. Saying that, I am sure this Moto G would get me by.

  • Best price was from DWI about 6 weeks ago which was $50 off if paying by Paypal for I think the first 100 - it was quickly delivered and the deal was posted here on OZBargain - thanks

Can't speak highly enough of DWI however…

    • How much did you end up paying delivered for which model? 8G dual sim? Local stock? I must fix up my Paypal account for these types of deals.

  • The 20% off sale on ebay on Sunday could be another option too for $9 less delivered if they do not up the price for the sale, local stock too. The Good Guys ebay store has Australian stock Moto G 3G 8 Gig for $239 delivered now. If they keep that price on Sunday you should get it for around $192.20. Good deal for local stock for people who live without 4G as the new model does not have faster 3G anyway, as long as around 5 Gig local memory is enough. Also for some people the dual sim is handy too.

  • Kogan has put the price back up to $229 + del for the 16GB. Managed to snap one (16GB) up yesterday for my dad at $209 delivered.
