Samsung 500GB 2x Tuner + 3D Blu-Ray Player BD-F8500AXY REFURB 12m Wty - $199 +P&P - 2nds World

50

First time bargain submission so hope I have done it correctly:

I saw this earlier post for the newer modeL https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150193 which looked like a good deal. As always I did more research.

I saw 2nds World had one for $299+ $9 postage to Sydney. http://www.2ndsworld.com.au/tv-audio-accessories/media-playe…

But as I investigated further I saw they also had the same model for $199 + $9 postage to Sydney but it was refurbished. It still comes with 12 month Supplier Warranty.

500GB Dual Tuner PVR - Model BD-H500AXY
3D Capable Blu-Ray player

It states it is either demonstration model, factory reworked or refurbished product.

Still showing available online and it states while stocks last.

  • Good deal. Only thing from what I have read that lets it down is that you are not able to transfer any of the recordings from internal to USB HDD.

Might want to Mention its also a 500gig Recorder in description. I own the bd-8500a not sure of the difference if any to this. But the UI is pretty poor and the Smart Hub can be hit and miss even with the latest firmware updates.

Thanks Arsenal1 (if that is in relation to the mighty EPL football team Arsenal then you get bonus points)

Have updated heading with it. (limited characters).

      Thanks

  • Is stock from '2nds world' actually 2nds?
Samsung's repair policies and prices are terrible.

  • The reviews for this are terrible. I can believe them all too, as after trying out many different brands of TV recorder, the most reliable and easiest at the end of the day is hooking an old VHS recorder up to a set-top box! Crap quality and you can't change channel automatically, but at least you know the show will be recorded and you can watch it anywhere. You can also stop watching part-way, carry it to another room and begin exactly where you stopped instead of having to remember exactly where you were up to then fast-forward up to that point. Useful if you have to move to a different room for whatever reason.

I've been looking for a digital TV recorder easy enough for my auntie and grandmother to use. It's surprisingly difficult to find one that works reliably and is easy to use. It sounds so easy to do, but not sure why it's so hard to implement. They just want to record a TV show, and either watch it in the living room or the bedroom if they're tired. So many of these recorders don't allow copying to USB, or if they do they're not reliable, skip recordings, or have horrible interfaces. Pity… I've tried a few set-top boxes which record to USB, they either work really well at one or two things then fail completely at others, or just fail all round.

At $299 I would buy the new one, but thanks for the advice. Good to know. The $199 model is last years model FYI. You can tell this by the H in the model name BD-H8500AXY (2014 model). The BD-F8500AXY is the 2013 model. I don't know what the difference is.. And any letters before that are earlier models. (They missed G as it sounded too muck like LG)

    • Well spotted Edgeau. Not sure what the difference is either but I agree about paying more to get the latest model new, instead of last years model refurbished.
