LGM 01 Wall Bed - EOFY Sale - $9790 Inc. Delivery @ The Comfort Shop

30

I've been looking around for a few weeks now for a wall bed with a built in desk.

This is the most stylish and spec'd one I've come across. They also had a cheaper one: http://www.thecomfortshop.com.au/wall_beds/wall_beds_ulisse_…, but it doesn't have all the extra shelving.

It's a pretty good price considering their RRP is $11,550 for the LGM01.

There are plenty of cheaper models out there, but none which have a desk integrated.

If you have some alternative suggestions with an integrated desk I'm all ears!

Ummmm soory to say but is this really a bargain at around $10k?
Not sure how many peeps are in the market for something like this at this price tag

    • Completely agree, and whilst I'm not a fan of what is an high price tag the build quality and dual purpose it provides a room is not to be sniffed at.

I'm currently getting some quotes from local furniture makers to see if I could get something similar custom made for a significantly lower cost.

I even went and checked out Alibaba to see what the cost of an equivalent unit would be at wholesale prices. They were still around $2500, but with the need to order a container load, plus shipping costs and mattresses and an unknown build quality.

In my mind, I've purchased an apartment that is as much as I can afford (1 bedder). Something like this opens up my bedroom into being a dual purpose bedroom and home office. This keeps my computers out of the living room and leaves more space for things like storage.

So saying all that, if this is something you'd be looking at, like I am, any discount is better than nothing (an $1500 is nothing to be sniffed at).

  • Strikes me as a very modest discount.

Hehe … just think about the potential savings from a two bedroom to a one bedroom apartment - with clever furnishing you might need less space (which is the most expensive you might buy). Space saving is amazing on this! (maybe not the actual discount).

Not sure if there are not cheaper options around … but I guess the offerings will be fairly limited. DIY version should be the cheapest …

    • i wouldn't say savings considering the extra room holds its value

you could make a fairly compelling argument saying the 10k would be much better off as extra deposit for a bigger apartment. if you go with 20% deposit, 50k extra is usually how much an extra bedroom costs, bar sydney CBD

      • Your right an extra $10k does go a fair way for a deposit. But servicing the loan is a different matter. In my case, on a single income I could only afford to service the loan for a single bedroom apartment in the area I want. An extra $50k on the load would take the interest repayments too high.

Interesting post! Gives me some ideas.

    • Yeh when I first saw this it opened my eyes to the possibilities of maximising the usable space in my place.

There are cheaper alternatives around, some not as neat or high quality, but if you're not looking for one with an integrated desk then you have plenty of options. Some of the more DIY kits of beds in a closet I've come across start around $1500.

  • So it is only white melamine, the cheapest finish possible.it also says the desk is optional, so how much extra.

And if it's a bed you use often you need to clear all items off the shelf every night, a bit of a pain.

I suggest take lots of photos, grab the brochures, get measurements etc and find a cabinet maker or similar and see what they can do, will be cheaper.a friend does this when he was after Space brand furniture and built it for less than half with super quality fittings.

    • Desk on this unit was priced in as that much.

As for the book case, everything can stay on it, it just does a rotation and hides behind the headboard of the bed. (have a look at this video to get an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfYRSQLd5HI). Its very neat and allows all that storage to remain used constantly.

I've taken lots of photos, measurements etc. I agree a cabinet maker could make something similar, probably a straight up and down bed, but one that rotates like this would require a lot more engineering and might take the cost up to an equivalent. I'm currently in the works of getting a number of quotes now. Many cabinet makers have turned down the job already though.
