The Story (speculation on my behalf)

One could assume that there is a story behind this as I have seen this on eBay in other countries recently and my assumption is that it’s an effort to drive top line sales and bring the stock price back up due to eBay's challenges in 2014:

Ebay’s stock price was recently at a 52 week low at US$48.06 and has been on a consistent decline since 2014. There are several factors that have influenced this (not in order of impact):

  1. The recent security issue/alerts;
  2. Departure of some key executives;
  3. The infighting with investor Carl Icahn;
  4. Alibaba IPO around the corner with Alibaba posing a real threat to Ebay;
  5. Amazon consistent strength and expansion (they’ll be here next year!);
    (perhaps 4&5 should have Australian retail worried too!)
  6. Google Search algorithm changes resulting in lower rankings for ebay listings;
  7. Shut down of eBay Now - same day service;
  8. Some other undisclosed events (speculation).

Either way, I’m happy to support them this weekend and I’ll be buying up on Sunday !!!

The Instructions

  1. Proceed to Ebay Checkout Page: Checkout: Review order
  2. Enter coupon code in redemption code box (bottom right) and press apply
  3. Press Continue and pay with paypal
  4. Verify in the paypal screen/system that the discount was applied before you complete your order.

Hint: If you are buying multiple items then make sure the currencies of the items are the same because you will only get one shot at this coupon.

Please let us know what you are going to buy and share your bargains below please.

Start adding product(s) to your watchlists today and enjoy!

Will the professionals crash the site?

If you do the math then this is a potential $6 000 000 spend from eBay!

  • DickSmith have finally despatched my Wemo switch (they're slow), but only 1 of them and nothing on backorder when I ordered 2!

    Anyone was able to cash out visa cards?

    • Why not just use them to pay billz?

      Trying to get cash from your credit card?
      Not gonna happen unless cash advancing with fees*

      *However I do know a way.

      • Most of bills are set to direct debit and dont wanna bother and change them :(

        • Yeah that's why I dont do that with my bills.

          I personally like to have control over it. :)

          Maybe sell them LOL ~10% less. ;)

        • If you pay your bill manually with the visa right away, your next bill will be $0, so nothing will be auto-debited from your account. You can even pay double so your account is in credit. That way you've effectively withdrawn the bill amount from the visa.

          (that's assuming you really mean auto-debit and not scheduled bpay)

        • Not sure if this works with AGL bills.

        • Hmm, that would be surprising. Maybe you can check with them then.

  • Gifte are you serious?

    I bought 6 x $100 gift cards and received them today. I want to activate them all so I can use them, but after activating 3 cards, I got this error on the 4th:

    "Activation Failed
    Unfortunately your gift card cannot be activated as you have reached
    your daily activation limit. Please try again tomorrow."

    Not sure if it's 3 cards per day or $300 but this is just a big PITA. Imagine if you bought 12 x $50 or even the $20 and its a 3 card limit!

    • Gifte sent me someone else's invoice by mistake and probably sent mine to them. Name and address of some guy in melbourne.

    • What a real hassle. I've been able to activate 5 of my 6 received cards. Get this error on the last card:

      "Card not Found
      Unfortunately your gift card cannot be activated as your card number
      cannot be found, please check your number and try again"

      I typed and checked it 3 times. I just want to use my cards!!!

  • Anyone in Perth still haven't received their gift card?

  • +2

    I'm in Sydney Metro and I still havent got mine.

    Ordered them at 2.30am 6x$100 EFTPOS cards.

    SO yeah

  • Used this last week. Thank you.

    Bought a whole load of Australia Post supplies for the 15% off. Going to use them anyway, so the discount adds to the bottom line.

  • For anyone who has received their PS4 from Dick Smith, did it come packaged in an outer box? Just picked up mine from the post office and it was just the PS4 box with shipping information stuck on the front. Box seems kind of damaged.

    • Yes i think thats a normal thing. Warehouse and transit wear and tear i guess.

  • Has anyone else in Melbourne not yet received their gift cards?

    • I don't get why someone would negative vote a genuine question. According to eBay, it's got "estimated delivery on or before Mon. 30 Jun" which is today.

      • -1

        It's either fat fingers, a misclick, or just "one of those people". :)

      This replied email from giftegift after asking about my gift cards.
      (I'm in Melbourne as well).

      Hi There,
      Due to an overwhelming positive response to the 15% off promotion held by Ebay on 22/06/2014 we are running a few days behind on our regular dispatch times.
      Please be assured that we are doing all we can to get your cards to you (including complementary upgrade to Express Postage where applicable) and answer your queries ASAP. We predict all outstanding orders will be received by 04/07/2014.
      Thanks for your wonderful patronage, and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!

      • +1

        I got a standard response from gifte blaming AusPost for their delay.

        Thank you for posting your reply.

      • Thanks. Interesting thing is my partner made the same purchase 6 hours after me and received hers on Friday already.

  • +1

    Just as an FYI. The card wasn't accepted at AUSPost to just get cash out. Also didn't work at Coles if you try the cash out function, will say: Cash out not allowed on gift card.
    A bit of a hassle…

    • +2

      The card wasn't accepted at AUSPost to just get cash out.

      If this is the EFTPOS card.. you're supposed to use it as a funding source for a deposit, not "cash out".
      Did you do this?

      • Yeah interested in this also.

      • I just use mine on groceries… Spent in no time.

      • -1

        I went to NAB bank and tried to deposit the EFTPOS card into my savings and the counter says she doesn't think it's possible. Says I'm suppose to spend it in shop.

        • why am I getting a negative? I was under the impression we can deposit the money back into bank

        • @wiltonson: Just a guess, but I think it has to do with anti-money-laundering measures.

          EFTPOS wasn't meant for withdrawing money anyway. It's in the name - EFT at Point Of Sale. It just so happens our bank ATM cards are linked to the EFTPOS system, so a bank card can do it as the cash is coming from our actual bank accounts.

      • hey,

        So these eftpos cards can be used to deposit into say a savings account at comm bank?
        would the cashier know how to do this? thx

  • I still haven't receive my gift cards.

    • check the tracking it is probably sitting at your post office because the lazy postman did not send you a we missed you card.

      • youre right…damn those lazy ones..

  • I received my cards and they activated fine. Used one of them at woolies and no issues there. I did try another transaction and that was to just get cash out only but that declined.

    • The one that you used at woolies; did you get any cash out with the purchase?

      I received my 6 cards and spent the majority of it on my car rego at AusPost, with the remainder at Woolies and Bunnings.

  • Apologies if this has already been covered.
    I bought a giftcard and received it however paypal shows the full amount of $107.95.
    Anybody have information on how/where the 20% off comes in - is it a rebate?

    • Did you use the code CBIGSUNDAY in the voucher box just before paying? It would have taken 15% off, not 20%. The total would have shown the discounted price before paying. Seems like you forgot to put the code in. Try contacting Ebay to see if they'll let you take 15% off but I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

      • +2

        Ah I figured it out. Paypal payment of $107.95 was comprised of:

        22 Jun 2014 Charge from Credit Card $91.76 AUD
        22 Jun 2014 Voucher Completed $16.19 AUD

        Credit card correctly shows charge of $91.76 made.

  • I just received my Velocity eStore points from this transaction, so referral deals still worked. Therefore others shouldn't have an issue getting the 2% cash back.
