  • Price in the title

I'll be a little nicer. Give this a good read: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…

Probably should mention $79 in the title.

I've bought 5 items from CoTD over the past year, and 3 of them were classified as "oversized/bulky" despite seeming pretty normal sized to me (e.g. how is a 24cm Scanpan frying pan "oversized"?).

  • +1

not showing in the link for me but i already have it from the previous offer about 6mths ago.Makes a lot of items more reasonably priced the last offer didnt have a minimum spend

    • If you go to checkout with items valuing over $20 it has an Opt In Box and this is were i found you can sign up

lol so you need to pay them $79 (usually $99) for "membership" which only gives you free postage for 12 months?

And there is a minimum order of $20, and excludes items marked oversized / bulky??

At least they could have thrown in some "member only" offers.

    • Still a good deal, even if you only do one order a month that totals $120.00 Shipping so your saving already let alone if you order more times.

      • +10

Yes but you are forcing yourself to buy stuff you may not really want just to take advantage of free postage.

        • +1

          pfff

  • +1

Why is this in travel category?

    • +3

Because even the thought of people buying enough useless junk off COTD to make up for the cost of this membership makes people want to up and leave.

  • +4

this is the costco's $60 membership's fee, poor cousin…. for the PRIV of delivery.

    sorry, PASS!

    • +4

Except with Costco you actually save money on things you need :D

    • Very poor cousin indeed. Costco has the best return policy plus insane warranty. There's no way you can get the same peace of mind from COTD. Might mean something if COTD membership included free postage for returned goods and change of mind.

  • +4

You've gotta order 10 times per year just to break even AND it can't meet their definition of "bulky".

Does anyone order more that once a month? My purchases from COTD are twice a year at best.

  • +1

When did they add this stupid min $20 clause. it wasnt there the last time.

  • I could go for it if there were no $20 minimum spending. No good.

  • Minimum order of $20

I'm probably responsible in part for that. :D

I got the free shipping offer when it was originally offered with no minimum order. And I have been using it. Especially on their grocery site.

It's not my fault if they offer grocery items for 1c and limit purchases to 1 per person(1). Or if the only thing I want from their daily deals is $1.99 and everything else is either overpriced, almost expired, or something I'd never buy. Would I have ordered if I had to pay postage? No. But don't blame me for making use of an offer you made.

Sure, if you get a professional eater come into your all-out-can-eat buffet, you're screwed. But don't blame the guy for your business decisions. With no min order, I've been ordering one-off items just to try them. Most have been meh. But there are been occasion good finds(2). And I don't always make small orders. When they offer something decently priced and don't limit it to one-per-person, I'll order several, along with whatever else is offered at the same time for a fair price(3).

I've also got bitten a few times on products that were awful. eg Their imported Yellow label tea tasted horrible and nothing like the local version. I binned 4 packs because they were only $1 per pack. But if I'd paid $8 shipping for the first pack and $4 shipping per pack, I'd be pissed and looking for a refund including shipping.

I've probably saved ~$200 in shipping fees for my membership, but now it's got the $20 minimum I'm not sure if I'd renew when my year is up.

I have noted that items they normally charge $8-9 delivery for, have been sent in padded envelopes which would have cost around $2 to send. But they may be losing out on large heavy items too, so it's difficult to accuse them of using their postage fees as a profit centre outright.

    (1) But I also follow their restrictions. ie I don't make 5x orders for the same 1c item. If it says "Limit 1 per person" that's all I order. But if it's offered a day or two later at the same low price, I'll order it again as it's a new offer, but I'll still only order one, respecting their conditions.
    (2) The other issue is that if I do find something I like, due to their 5-14 day shipping times, and "today only" stock control, it's almost never available to order again.
    (3) But if I've already got 10 months worth of Finish dishwashing tables from a order a month ago, I'm not going to order more just because they are cheap again.
