ah right - i was just going by the amazon description ;)

    • Can't you use MakeMKV and rip the disc?

      • not if your Bluray reader is region locked

        • But these discs are region free

        • Yes I understand, but futaris' comment was in reply to beaver2233's comment saying they are region A. I think futaris was planning to get around region locking by ripping the disc.

It's not a problem, of course, though, 'cos as you say, they're not region locked :-)

  • As a trekkie who has only seen into darkness, would this satisfy, or to much 80's special effects?

    • +3

Heck why not. I'm currently in the middle of watching season 1 of the original Star Trek tv series on blu-ray. Original Star Trek is cool :)

    • +6

You honestly cannot call yourself a trekkie

      • -5

        Just did :-P

    • +4

A real Trekkie strives for 60's special effects.

Get it so you can watch Wrath of Khan then you will understand Into Darkness better ( and see what the new one has copied)

Star Treks 2, 4 and 6 are the traditionally "good" ones. Star Trek The Motion Picture is pretty boring, but is a really beautiful movie. 80s and 90s special effects could look great if done right and with a big enough budget. There's some stuff to like in 3, but it's generally pretty weak. 5 is a well documented mess at this point, it's amazing it was even finished.

You're not really a Trekkie if all you've seen is Into Darkness. It is only superficially a Star Trek movie. The 2009 movie was the same, but it was at least a good action movie. Into Darkness just treads the same ground as 2009 while borrowing story elements from other Star Trek stories (primarily Wrath of Khan).
