Hipod Senator Convertible Carseat with Sound (6 Months to 6-8yrs) $120 @ Target ($110 with Code)

140
Welcome

I needed a second car seat and came across this model. According to Google's cache it was $249 on 2 June. It's now less than half that, and the cheapest convertible car seat I could find. Delivery is $15, but pickup is free (you need to wait for them to ship it to your local branch first).

Reviews are alright (average, nothing that stands out, comparable to other car seats). It is compliant with the 2010 standard.

Description from Site
The Hipod Senator with sound converts from a forward-facing car seat with in-built harness to a booster seat and is suitable from 6 months to 6-8 years (approx). It features luxurious cushioning and shoulder pads for superior comfort, contoured side wings for valuable side impact protection and in-built speakers compatible with MP3 players. Includes an adjustable headrest and a machine washable cover.

Looks good for older kids but 6 months?? I wouldn't be placing mine in a forward facing position before 2 years at least.

Wrong place to be discussing expensive items but I only buy my car seats from carseat.se

I guess it depends on the child's height and weight.
Not sure whether your link means you bought your childseat from Sweden, but be aware that childseats bought outside Australia do not have the Australian standards approval (AS/NZS 1754), and are illegal (even if they may be safer). It must have the "AS/NZS 1754" sticker/label on it.

It has more to do with the child's neck muscle development. Even babies who have strong neck muscles and good head control, the neck bones are flexible can be severely damaged in a crash when FF as opposed to RF.

As to the sticker thing, I'll put proven safety above some slow to act policy.

        • I fully support your logic. Just not sure what would happen if the police happened to check, or if you are involved in an accident (would they treat it as negligent?). You know how those things go….

True. I'd also like to know as I haven't heard of a case yet. Not to judge anyone, as everyone is different, it's just what risks you are willing to take for what you believe is right

    • I doubt you'd get 2yrs rear facing out of any seat., unless the baby is 5th percentile small.
      We turned at 9 months.

      • Actually many seats these days have that ability - the Infa neon/kompressor fits upto 30monthold average RF as does many SNS seats. The meridian SICT and compaq even have slightly higher markers. A2 class.

Could I guess you had either a mothers choice, zuzu, maxi cosi, safety first or Infa luxi? Sure I've missed a few but a1 class are notoriously low.

  • Unfortunately the standards dictate that class of restraint is for 6 months plus - vast majority of kids won't reach the height marker at that age though thankfully! My 2.5 year old is just on the entry line for the Rallye (which will be on sale in the baby sale next month at big w for $120 ish if people can wait it's much better height wise than this seat).

    • The Rallye looks rather wide. I've been hoping to be able to squeeze an adult between two slimmer child seats. I've moved one up to the SnS HiLiner.

    • Very impressed with Rallye especially for the $67 I paid. Still a great buy at double the price….

  • Bought 2 of these a couple of weeks ago. My 2.5 year old loves it, but definitely NOT for a 6 month old. There is a recline feature for younger kids, but my 8 month old would lean forward when falling asleep and kept waking up, so we went back to a rear-facing seat. Other than that it is a great seat.

    Not the most durable product…..

    • I think many of those comments apply to an older version of this product.
