  • this sounds fair to me….

  • last time i saw a full hd brand name 37" for under a grand was the big brown box nec 37" full hd back in dec last year, so this seems like a bargain. I don't know how good sanyo is though

  • NEC is definately better than Sanyo ……

  • why is 'NEC definately better than Sanyo'?

What panels do NEC use? What panels do Sanyo use?

  • +1

just beaten by $3 by DSE

    • don't have to wait until september for this one though, and it should be more widely available

  • yeah - I'd go BigW though - Qantas frequent flyer points :)

    • Exactly. you get 33 frequent flyer points if you buy this tv. One point for every $30 spent.

  • Is this a good LCD TV? How different compare to big brands (eg. Samsung/LG)?

I'm a real noob at LCD TV :P but I really want one

    • I'm not "pro" with LCD TV's, but in comparison, I bought a Samsung 40 inch one from Myer last April or so, LA40A450, for $1100. But again, this only had 1366 x 768, but of course better contrast. I think it really all depends what your budget is, and what you plan on using it for. If you've got 4k to splurge, then you wouldn't consider this at all. If you've only got 1k, then you have a choice of getting the cheaper, bigger, 'crap'-branded 37" inch, or a smaller, 'big-brand-name' 32" inch.

      • it also depends on what you are going to watch on the screen, where the screen is placed, how much sun light, etc ,etc..

if you want something that can play HD content well, is in a dark or dimly lit room, then the Sanyo would be fine. The brightness and contrast isn't that great - so direct or indirect sunlight and interior lights are going to impact on the quality that you see.

Have a look at one on display in either a DSE or BigW - does the black look black or is it very grey? as far as the panels are concerned, there aren't many suppliers of panels anyway - not like there is a big difference between panel vendors.

Its the options that the vendor puts on the unit and also the grade of the panel used.
Its still a decent price for a decent full HD screen.

  • Why not just save your 1000 bucks for LED TV next year? That's what I would do ^^

it seems like a good deal for a 37" screen. that said a 32" panasonic I bought for a similar price has much better picture quality. Still, the intergrated HD tuner is a massive plus for the sanyo, most 'high definition' t.v.'s don't have one built in so you still need to buy a set-top box to get a true HD signal ( most manufacturers like to keep this secret by burying it down at the bottom of the specs!)

      Woah, hey.

Pretty much ALL HDTV's come with an integrated HD tuner nowadays.
      Even the cheap ones do.

benr3, where the hell have you been the last 12 months. I have not seen any HD or Full HD TVs which do not have an inbuilt HD tuner
