This deal is for AVG internet security not Norton. Read a little closer next time..

That will teach me to drink, have cold and flu tablets and ozbargain..

        +10 then for the bargain

  • Got it. Thanks

  • FYI (copied from signup email):

    • This is a 365 day extended trial of AVG Internet Security 2014

    • If you have used AVG Internet Security in the past, then you might not be able to install an extended trial and thus won’t be able to get this freebie.

    • When you download the installer, make sure the file name is:
      “avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484″ or
      “avg_isct_x86_all_2014_4592a7484"

Seems like no stacking / license key hoarding this time around; but still good for those that haven't used AVG IS before or can cleanly remove all traces of a previous install if it's about to expire.

    • What's an extended trial?

      • +2

It means you're going to get a tonne of reminders about upgrading.

        • can you use adblock?

        • probably not. They'll be pop-ups as part of the program.

    • Used avg_remover_stf_x64_2014_4116 and ran the installation, did not work 30 day trial.

      • Yep same here…got the 30 day trial AND my internet stopped working.Had to uninstall to be able to come online again. How bizarre.

AVG has got very spammy lately with meh levels of malware detection.

  • +8

Just waiting for the inevitable "But Microsoft Security Essentials is free!" comment. Not a single AV deal goes by without someone mentioning MSE. Come on Ozbargain. I have faith in you.

    • +36

But Microsoft Security Essentials is free!

      • +6

        and good.

      • Is it any good? I have been using AVG free for ages, but the popups piss me off.

        • Yes. I was a long time Avast user until it too got spammy. MSE is the way to go. Light and effective. Made by MS.

        • Turn the pop-ups off. Tools, Advanced, untick Display notifications.

    internet accelerator

Installed and telling ISP tomorrow to return to dial up plan. Think of the money I'll save. Cheers TA

Update the title to "Free 1 Year Trial"?

  • +4

    i didn't know they charge $69.99 for a 365 day trial normaly.

  • Perfect timing for me. I uninstalled Bitdefender on Friday after suffering constant 50% CPU usage by bdagent.exe

  • +2

anyone can pls fill me in ..still showing 30 days left…have i missed something?

    installed
    avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484

    • +1

I have a same issue.. don't know what am I missing? May I was already registered with AVG before that would not give me "extended trial" for a year.

      • Thats my guess. Go back to the website and download it using another email address.

      • Fixed it, redownloaded from the email link. After uninstalling old version. Hope helps.

        • Pls help. I redownloaded from the email link, but still only manage to get a 30 day trial version. What have I done wrong?

        • Hey xijuan,

Make sure you download the right file as it said on the description. Try downloading from mirror link. Worked for me.

  • +1

    Thx TA

  • thanks

  • edit: nm

  • Is this really any better than AVAST FREE?

    • Nope, Avast Free is god-tier AV still.

  • Only available for Windows. When I selected Mac version, I got an error.
Please update the title (Windows Only) .. :)

    • Yep not for mac. Got and error. Worked fine for windows

  • Protip: Pretty much all anti-virus softwares are the same. If you're paying for one, you're losing money.

Use Commonsense 2014. If you want a proper AV then either Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials will get the job done.

Please note it appears that AVG is filtering downloads based on the country you are in; people in some countries are getting the correct AVG Internet Security 2014 download that has the 365 extended trial while other people in other countries are being redirected to AVG’s country-specific website and getting a 29 day trial version. When you download the installer, make sure the file has “avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484″ or “avg_isct_x86_all_2014_4592a7484″ in the name. If you get an installer that doesn’t have that in the name, that is the wrong file — get it from the download mirror to get the right file.

chrome is blocking my download, saying its malicious

    should i over-ride the block

    • Do not downlaod

    • chrome is blocking my download, saying its malicious

      should i over-ride the block

Hahaha… I remember working as a consultant spending an entire day trying to disinfect and retrieve company records from a secretary's computer and after she double-clicked on her friend's email and her antivirus gave her a warning. She KNEW that her friend would NEVER send her a virus, so the stupid antivirus must be wrong. I was quite impressed, she actually googled "How to uninstall antivirus" and spend half an hour following the instructions and uninstalling the antivirus software, just so she could open her friend's email. The email and included attachment was of course not from her friend (her friend's email account had been compromised after she used her hotmail at a dodgy internet cafe overseas), so it installed all sorts of crapware and mass-emailing spamware. But her friend would NEVER send her a virus, so obviously the warning was wrong…

      'should i over-ride the block'

Well if you think http://sharewareonsale.com/ is more trustworthy than http://www.google.com/chrome‎, then go ahead! But maybe they know something you don't.

  • I'm getting 108 days for the 64 bit version…..

    • i'm getting 26x days.. i think if you had the trial previously then it counts from that day.

    • I am get 374 days . Not sure how it courts.

  • +1

I'm also getting the malicious warning by chrome. Has anyone already successfully installed? Trustworthy?

  • AVG is bloated malware itself use avast instead. It uses much less resource usage and does a better job a protecting your PC.

Microsoft Security Essentials is also recommend and it uses a miniscule amount of pc resources.

  • MSE is known as the least effective of the free antivirus programs available. Read the reviews. Panda is very good and so is Avast. AVG is difficult to remove if you get sick of it. Bottom line is that it's really not necessary to pay for antivirus, as most are oK.

  • +2

Am I lazy or? For me this kills it 'This is a 1-year license'. I would rather use free solutions like Avast or similar and not need to change after a year.

  • Can anyone confirm if this is 100% legit? Making you download and install the file from a mirror site (not associated to AVG) is making it a little suspicious..

  • +1

When I tried downloading it from the mirror, it had "_huawei" at the end of the filename. I know Huawei have been denying for years the idea of them spying on other countries through their products, but could this be a subtle way of embedding spyware in an antivirus product?

Could somebody post the checksum from the legitimate AVG site to compare to the mirror website? I'm using a mobile at the moment, otherwise I'd do it myself.

    • +2

I just arrived home and did it myself - the files are different:

      avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484.exe = 639e09a1e90d2abbd9d4b421e2b5f7f6fb51c0a6

      avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484_huawei.exe = 3bec89fd0b8761151927298b232b4672125c2e2a

I don't know about anybody else, but I don't necessarily trust a file that didn't come direct from the AVG website.

    • I would never trust them, They are non stop spying and there are certain anti human right issues in their activities.

  • +6

Please do not download this, the official trail version from AVG only works for 30 days
The other mirror file comes from nowhere and gives some security warnings, no one could be sure if its legitimate or what it is!

Sorry for the neg dear TA but I would not buy their story

"Please note it appears that AVG is filtering downloads based on the country you are in; people in some countries are getting the correct AVG Internet Security 2014 download that has the 365 extended trial while other people in other countries are being redirected to AVG’s country-specific website and getting a 29 day trial version. gives something from huawei

Googling the hash value of both files gives me a Russian 'pirabit.net' site…

  • +3

download from site. use this code to activate 8MEH-RNXBD-GMYHF-BSLSR-ZK3FE-PEMBR-ACED
    this lasts to 2018

    • Or until AVG flags the key.

  • Got a 30 DAY trial instead. Made sure the file name was 'avg_isct_x64_all_2014_4592a7484' too…

  • thanks raffstar
