The Good: The Acer Iconia A1-830 is stylishly thin and performs consistently smoothly during casual use. With a smooth aluminum back, it feels solid yet comfortable to hold, and it has a microSD card expansion slot.

The Bad: It runs an older version of Android; performance lags if multiple apps are open or if multitasking; the screen resolution is low for today's standards; it no longer offers a micro-HDMI port.

The Bottom Line: The Acer Iconia A1-830 is a sleek and simple tablet for basic use, but you need only spend $50 more to upgrade to a slate with faster performance and better features.

    • Same CPU as the Asus 10.1" deal from last night too.

      • Sweet. Not refurb like Asus. I'm in.

  • harverynorman has advertised $188.00 online. officeworks can beat price by 5%. then it comes to $178.60 - 29.00 [cashback] = $ 149.60

    • Which is more expensive than the $145-24 posted! Your point is……?

if dicksmith runs out with tablets then this is another option.

when i posted this was available on dicksmitch for click & collect but now it is not.

  • Should I buy this for my mum or an ipad mini? Both about 7". She will only use it for surfing and sending emails when travelling, when she finds a wifi spot.

      Get her the mini.

If something goes wrong with the Acer, you'll blame yourself not not getting an iPad.

If something goes wrong with the iPad mini, you'll pretend everything's all dandy and good.

    • +1

unless you have the cash to burn at 30% the price of the mini this is better value for someone with simple requirements.

      • You miss the point — if you don't want to play the role of an unpaid 24hr tech support guy for your mother, you should buy an iPad because it's locked down, non-customizable nature means there are less things to troubleshoot, hence saving you from the late night 10PM phone calls on how to use the tablet.

Acer want the original label on the back of the box for the cash back, so you either shred it trying to peel it off or cut a chunk out of the box. So if you plan on it being a gift, don't do it because your going to have to carve out the back of the box which makes it an awfully packed gift… and you will look like a cheap ass for claiming the cash back.

    • I have the A1-810, the label is just a sticker, easy to peel off & no need to cut the box, I think it's the same for the A1-830.
