  • WOW that is cheap. Nice find :)

  • Yeah, very good find! Cheap and from within AU too (and for me it's only an extra $2 for express postage!)

  • Don't say no good deals for WA!

  • From recent OzBargain post it is clear that the price of SSD is definitely falling down!
    Good news!

and yet the majority of consumer laptops out there, even the ones with 8gb ram and i7 processors, are crippled with crappy 5400rpm hard drives. Very Frustrating. Hopefully the christmas broadwell refresh will see manufacturers sort their shit out.

This is something that irritates me, do most laptop users need an i7 over an i5 more than they need an SSD over a HDD?

Laptop are moved about a lot, even while switched on, they get thumped by angry people and dropped by clumsy people. A SSD has a greater resistance to damage caused this way. They typically consume less power and generate less heat. Don't spin so they are quieter. This is on top of the large reduction in load times of the OS and applications.

I still use a 2007 laptop, it still feels speedy because of the SSD I slapped in.

      • That what I'm saying.
Previously SSD were too pricey to slap large storage on laptops, that might be the main reason many laptops still come with conventional HD.
But with this trend of frequent promotion on SSD, we will be expecting new laptops to equip with decent size of SSD soon.
I hope by the time I replace my laptop I am capable of getting a SSD one!

        • The problem is….. not everybody is tech savvy and actually knows the benefits of a SSD.

Since they aren't tech savvy, they just assume BIG numbers = Better.
For example a 1000GB HDD is better than a 256GB SSD since it is a higher number.

If you didn't know about computers, which one would you choose? lol.

Its harder to market a 256GB SSD vs a 1000GB, even though a salesman tells you "The SSD is faster" would you believe them, because most people are paranoid about salesmen and will think "this guy trying to rip me off and sell me something inferior because he is trying to offload stock he cannot sell".

Same with CPUs, they think the newer Laptops with lower Ghz = Slower than before. Since they know before there was 3Ghz now everything is 2ghz….

Exactly! And this is what really irks me, when they completely take advantage of the lack of knowledge of the average consumer. Another example is graphics cards. I facepalm when i see an Nvidia GT 620/720 GPU in a haswell laptop. The dedicated graphics is barely better than than the integrated, and they have the stones to call it a "Gaming" laptop! When all it's really doing is draining battery and being a waste of silicone! /rant

Couldn't agree more. I will never, ever have a machine without the primary drive being an SSD.

Installing my first SSD into my existing machine was the only upgrade that I've ever done that made me go "WOW, now that makes a HUGE difference" it feels like one or more orders of magnitude speed increase (it probably is).

It is the first upgrade I'd suggest to anyone who want their machine to be faster (unless they have a ridiculously small amount of ram).

The HDD is nearly always the bottle neck for the average persons usage (non gamer or similar resource hungry use).

The lack of SSD's and pathetic display density is something I just can't understand with the current PC market.

I still clearly remember paying $630 for 128gb OCZ Vertex 4 years ago from PCCasegear, times have changed!

  • Wow WA is starting to get some decent deals.

  • Damn! That's a good price! Three months ago I paid about $270 for a 256GB 840 Pro.

  • Still waiting :)

    Cheers.

  • sold out =)

  • how is everyone migrating from there old hdd to the ssd?

Just format and install windows again or wha?

    • you can use the Samsung Data Migration software to migrate your system to any Samsung SSD.

    • +2

A clean install is by far the best way.
Samsung offers a good utility for samsung drives as mentioned above.
If you have to migrate, i can vouch for Acronis TIH 2014, they have a 1 month free trial.
      Instructions here: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/…
And I think you're meant to run the WEI after it is installed so the OS knows its got a SSD installed and to change its settings. Do some googling about the proper process.
But yeah do a clean install if you can.

  • bought it from MSY for $389.
