    Cool.this is usually quite expensive

    far out this is epic…

  • I've always wondered, do you need the rpg maker if you don't plan on making games? By that i mean, to play the games others have made.

    • +1

To The Moon doesn't mention seem anything about needing RPG Maker. It would seem odd if you needed to the Maker just to play; it would greatly reduce the usefulness of the maker if you could only sell to other people who also owned the maker. So I guess you don't need it.

And you can win $10k if you make a game within the next month. Doesn't have to be a RPG either.

    • Details of the competition: http://contest.rpgmakerweb.com/

      Quick Summary

Game Development Period: 29/05/14 to 30/06/14

Grand Prize: $10,000 plus help with distribution across platforms. Under 2 categories developers can get prizes of: $2,500, $1,000 and $500. Plus a People's Choice of $2,000.

  • Fantastic deal, thanks for posting OP

  • PWWY = ? guessing Pay What You Want?

    • Yes, I'll edit the acronym for clarity - thanks for bringing this to my attention.

  • I was going to make the joke that I would love to make a good RPG, that is why I am avoiding RPG Maker… but To The Moon was made by this, so in my face.

SDteam has RPG Maker VX Ace at $17.50.

So seeing as you can grab a bundle including 13 games (2 are good) for $12, looks like a great deal.

  • I wanted to buy rpg maker ace a few months ago when it was half price <$30 but didnt want to risk it, now i'm gonna make some super bad games for my friends to play woot

  • So are all the DLCs included if I pay $12 USD?

    • $12 includes:
RPG Maker VX Ace with 10 DLC's
      RPG Maker XP
      Game Character Hub
13 games, notably Skyborn and To the Moon.

As for DLC there is a total of 39 with Steam offering 75% off everything RPG Maker.

So I would assume there is a new piece of software coming out soon, why else release it all so cheaply?

      • I brought this a while ago and was really disappointed.
I think people get hooked into buying it and not realizing the limitations. It was a waste of a small amount of money for me.

The RPG maker platform itself is ancient and they seem to be doing nothing to update it.

        Reasoning:
It only supports a maximum of 640x480 resolution for your games and still has a ton of limitations (only a very simple turn based battle system is included out of the box) and bugs.
Creating very simple RPGs involves finding a lot of outdated scripts and hacks just to get a few features running. I'm not trying to put off creators here, just warning you. Don't think making an RPG with this is easy. After spending a few days with it and seeing the super low resolution over and over in 4:3 your eyes will hurt.

Myself, I'm waiting for Realm Explorer (in open alpha) to be finished. It's a single/multiplayer 3D open world sandbox RPG that will have a fully moddable RPG included.

        • Yeah, not sure why so low res. But if you go with $1… not sure anyone could make a mistake getting it.

        • 640x480 pfft, when I was a kid…

Yeah, by gaming standards that is low. But look at the 'retro' gaming movement at the moment. You can do very well making games with at resolutions for now, as long as the game is good of course.

Biggest downside is that they can't port to mobile devices.

I decided to buy more DLCs (not all) and ended up paying 87 USD more. :(

  • this one looks a lot better.
    http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/game-factory-bundle/

    has anyone used this?

    • Axis game factory looks like it is an asset/level creation tool for the Unity 4.0 game development engine (which is free when your starting out).

You get the pro version and 2 content packs. Do a search on Steam it will show you what you can add to it, it's fairly new. You would have to look at the details but it looks good for $10.

You can buy Unity assets in the Unity asset store as well. It's a well supported development engine.
