Received the cancelled email, but the order status is still in progress and paypal account is pending…
Got jb hifi email about their policy, paypal cancelled. Mine is done.
see you all guys in the next pricing error who know we got lucky event kind of thing!
You guys all give up to easily. No wonder companies just get away with anything!
Maybe some of us understand that people make mistakes…
Maybe JBHiFi need to understand that it's THEIR mistake, and having accepted the proposed sale a contract has been made - one that doesn't give them the right to unilaterally cancel when they fancy.
Try that in any business circumstance and see the courts say "tough, hand over the product".
Try that in any business circumstance and see the courts say "tough, hand over the product".
LOL.
Sane (remains to be seen), the "contract" clearly contains a provision allowing them to rescind the contract in the event of a pricing error, so what have they done wrong (legally)?
Let's say this was your job / business - would you hand over your days pay over a small mistake?
Or would you apologize and the tell the person to not expect anything at the cost of others
Are you able to cancel after they have accepted your order and progressed it as far as taking the money? If not then it fails the reciprocal test.
Just because they write a set of terms and conditions, doesn't mean a court would uphold them.
Too many people here without the wit to understand that businesses should have to stand behind their actions - even if they not like to.

They never took my money. That was clearly mentioned in the Paypal email sent to me:
Please note that this is not a charge. Your account will be charged when the merchant processes your payment.
Too many people here without the wit to understand that businesses should have to stand behind their actions - even if they not like to.
Too many people here feel entitled to everything. If the tables were turned I bet they would suddenly change their mind.
Just because they write a set of terms and conditions, doesn't mean a court would uphold them.
Lets see what the ACCC said when JB had a similar price error on their website.
A spokesman for the ACCC said: "Generally when there's a genuine error or minimal consumer detriment the ACCC doesn't intervene in disputes."

It's a different story if it was done intentionally.
It says "cancelled" when I log into JB hifi but haven't received the cancellation email and the credit card is still pending.
I would have never made an account with JB hifi; they wasted my time and they took personal information from me for free. Bloody annoying.
It never ever crossed your mind that a $5 Sony e reader might be a pricing mistake?
Still doesn't make it any less annoying, does it?
"Oh, it was a mistake," doesn't make anything better.
Oh if you've been around here for a while you would have gone through this at least a few times. At first it's annoying but then most of us realize it's just a gamble - sometimes the retailer will honour the error, sometimes they won't. We can't win all the time. Imagine if the tables were turned and we were the seller.
They are not obligated to honour it according to this ACL quote by raisinberry777:

Surely you would have made the purchase with "this really looks like a price error so I shouldn't get my hopes up" in mind? I mean, it's a 95% discount.
What crossed peoples minds was; E readers are a dying technology (especially mono-chrome/greyscale screen), Sony is closing its online book store soon and accessories eg. cases for this device are going on special as well.
I think its perfectly reasonable to think that JB HiFi were looking to clear out all their stock or offer such a great deal to maybe make the money back on their eBook store or other purchases in store when the person arrive to pick the item up.
It doesn't matter what JB HiFi assumes or writes in T/C. Thinking we would be smart enough to realise that that price had to be wrong is there error and they should wear the cost.
Well that's one way of looking at it.
But $5 for an $85 device is still quite unrealistic - surely you can see that? If their landed cost was $60 (it's probably more), do you expect each customer to spend at least $55 in-store or online just because of this deal? The cases are on special - for $5. The fact that an e-reader is the same price as its case doesn't raise your eyebrows a bit?
Oh if you think e-readers are a dying technology that nobody wants (hence the 95% discount), better tell Amazon to stop making new Kindles. :)

“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for a joke, I can tell you I am not funny. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for companies like you. If you let me have the e-reader, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”

To be honest these Sony eReaders are pretty crap. Better to pay the extra cash and get a Kindle.
Don't the Kindle's not do ePub?
It was my understanding that they were somewhat locked down, hence Amazon continuing to sell them at a loss.
You shouldn't ever get dissuaded by formats as there is a fantastic free program called Calibre that will convert between any format for you.
Those programs are very annoying to use. Why do I have to jump through hoops just to read a book.
I guess it is more for people who download books for free in whatever format and then just convert to the one that suits their eReader.
It is a very simple program to use and I believe it has helped the ebook revolution take off in a big way.
Have one do you? Our household contains 4 Sonys of various models and we find them to be excellent.
Yes I did but returned it once I used a friend's kindle as it was a far superior device. Should probably have said 'not as good as a kindle' rather than crap as they still do the job though.
Was interested in this deal to give to friends who haven't made the switch to ebooks yet.
Sony's are fine. They are pretty good actually.
Your just a fanboi, go home.
I think he is a dogboy
Ordered 2 just before lunch and picked them up no issues at the Canberra Centre JB
oh yeah !
Just post your receipt here. Lets see your photoshop skills :P
Lies!
There were no stock of this model in any JB stores within the Canberra region.
Dammit. I didn't go based on how this thread was panning.
For the record the Canberra Centre JBHIFI previously pricematched 2x Kobo Minis at ~$17 following Officeworks' $19 clearance, and their stock records are pretty shaky some of the time, so it is plausible.

Was worth a try. Got a super cheap Sony battery charger thingy last time :-)
What the F***. Where is my product
In the JB warehouse.
davoed as bro
If this was your own business, would you lose 1000s over a pricing mistake? Of course you're allowed to cancel transactions over typos. All this ACC talk is just self entitlement.
And what if getting it meant that the person that made the error got sacked for losing thousands over a small oversight?
I ordered 2, and took the risk hoping they might honour it. Can't whine about it when it doesn't.
just don't say that to Tony Abbot
Watch out incoming Budget Emergency™
Still haven't opened my Sony battery. Saw this deal while it was active, but didn't bother trying for it.
Definitely opposed to the concept of legally requiring price errors to be honoured in any case, because of the ironic situation that would result - the cost of businesses having to insure against the risk would be passed onto consumers. A lucky thousand or so people who swooped on a two dollar 27" Dell monitor get their orders honoured, but we'd all be picking up the tab as participants in a sort of invisible, involuntary raffle.
Agreed, and very well put.
The overheads to check and re-check pricing, ensure testing of websites/deals/promotions to ensure 100% correctness would be substantial. You don't want to add these cost to the prices of goods.
Link appears to be $89 now.
I saw this by chance independently on wed so I purchased 3. I paid for 1 to be 'picked up', one via my credit card directly and another via paypal in the random hope that one of the might net me this bargain.
Since then I have recieved 3 emails saying that the transactions were cancelled due to a pricing error, however my bank account is still pending payments totalling 21.95 - rather annoying - anyone know how long it will take for my money to be returned?
:(
Did anyone complain?
