for how long? a month, a year, 2 years?

and what's the cost after the 'free' period?

    • pretty sure .au domains can only be done in 2 yr chuncks and looking on their site seems that 2 year one is the promo

    • It's for 2 years. All .au domain names can only be registered in 2 year blocks.

  • I love Ventra!

  • +1

.net.au is currently on sale at $1 for 2 years

  • -1

It says you need an ABN/ACN etc to register? What if we don't have one?

    • +3

      Get one?

    • Get one.

      • +2

Do not do this or else you will risk losing your domain name later. It has to be valid to pass through our system anyway.

    • +4

      http://www.domainregistration.com.au/infocentre/info-center-…

"In accordance with Australian Domain Name Policy, to be eligible to register .com.au and .net.au domain names, registrants must be one of the following:

      • An Australian registered company
      • Trading under a registered business name in any Australian State or Territory
      • An Australian partnership or sole trader
      • A foreign company licensed to trade in Australia
      • Be an owner of an Australian Registered Trade Mark
      • An applicant for an Australian Registered Trade Mark
      • An association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory
      • An Australian commercial statutory body"
      • So i'm not sure which one i fall under but i selected that i own an investment property and that was enough to get me an ABN.

  • I am going to wait for a vendor to PAY us to register a domain!

    • Haha :) I can tell you that this has never been done before and I have no idea if/when it will happen again, and I don't mean by us I mean by the registry operator.

      • There has been a lot of deals recently because of a combination of the operator and the reseller losing a bit of money. Now, just waiting for a reseller to lose a bit more to outdo everyone else - come on, you know you can do it!

PS: I am already a customer of yours, great web panel! Not a single regret in transferring my domains over to you.

        • Thank you! :)

      • Out of interest, does AusRegistry themselves lose any money out of their $1 domains promotion?

Do they have to pay another body for the 'rights' to .au?

        • +1

It's an agreement between auDA and AusRegistry, and then agreements with the participating registrars.

  • +1

Someone should register jvfeedback.net.au and start a company where you pay JV to see how good your bargains/company etc is.

    • +4

So all company owners will want to slit their wrists?

  • We don't allow users with the email address provider you entered. Please try another email address.

    What's wrong with @yahoo.com?

    • +17

because nobody has used yahoo since the early 90s

      • Not true, my OzBargain-only-fake-name-for-getting-freebies uses yahoo all the time :)

      • I don't see any problem with it. I use it every day. If you don't use it I respect your decision but your comment did not answer my question.

        • +1

from my experience yahoo accounts are used by spammers. Probably find they're sick of false accounts from yahoo addresses.

  • -1

    Ignore, misread the terms!

  • +1

For those like me who did not read carefully and did not use the code, .net.au domain names are available for $1.00 for 2 years.

  • How do you do URL forwarding? Can I start a blog using a free site and then link it to my domain?

    • Yes you can. Just set up the free site and use the URL forwarding option within VIPControl to point your domain name there.

    • Yes and you don't even need to use URL forwarding if you use tumblr or Google's Blogger, as they support custom domain names for free. You could also look at Servers Australia free hosting plan's http://www.serversaustralia.com.au/personal-web-hosting.php

  • -7

No strings attached. cough within 2 years.
    Nek minnit.

    • +4

At the end of the 2 years, you can choose to renew the domain name or let it expire. Choice is yours.

        • +8

          $24.95.

  • is there any way to update the abn number once registered?

    • The only way to update it is to do a correction, however there needs to be justification as to why it was done incorrectly in the first place (ie. mistyped word, etc). Otherwise no.

      • my ABN is not recognized by your system nor ABN lookup. i have just got it. That's why had to use cousins ABN.

        • +2

We should be able to update that for you.

        • thank you.

        • +2

you know your not allowed to use other peoples ABNs..

        • pm you my ABN and username. Its coming up at abn lookup now. can you please update it on my account. thanks

  • Can I get an ABN if I design and sell websites occasionally? I couldn't see any sort of thing on the ANB registery site for Graphic Design. Also, it seems you need to report all income to the tax office, even if it falls under the ~$10000 (forgot the exact number) buffer before you have to pay tax, is this difficult to do? I haven't had any experience…

    • Just set it up for IT services. I wouldn't worry to much about the tax side of things.

      • IT Services as a sole trader or…? I can't seem to find it in any of the menus.

      • Where to register ABN? Thanks!

  • +1

Now what am I gonna do with 1000 domain names?

    • +2

This code can only be used once per client

You'll have to register 1000 ABNs first

  • I'm getting no response when clicking the 'Validate Code' button.

    Anyone else having this problem?

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP, order placed. Got the .com.au after lots of umming and ahhing, but free forwarding is nice so now can have both and really drive people to the right address!

Thanks a bunch OP, didn't grab a $1 domain due to another needless signup/billing process, convenient this way with BPAY.

    • +1

Do you mean you received a free .net.au domain name?

Or did you get a free .com.au domain name?

      Thanks.

  • Hi rep. In the intro, it says no payment info required. I already have a log in and when I checkout, it's asking me for payment info. What do I do?

Also, it shows a $24.95 biennual (probably mean biannual) charge. What is this?

    • You should be able to select BPAY as the payment method. That's all you need to do.

It will say that the biennial charge is $24.95 however due today should be $0 if the coupon is validated. That just means that the product in 2 years will be offered for renewal at that price.

  • Hi,

I want to transfer my domain from an existing provider. Is this also free?

    • +1

All .au domain names can be transferred between providers for free, however if you require a renewal with the transfer that will not be free as this offer is for new domain names only.

  • +3

Just beware that with VentraIP, even after you are no longer a customer of theirs they will continue to send you promotional and network status emails, even after you try to unsubscribe, then eventually open support tickets requesting they stop. It took me a good 2 years of being an ex customer before I could finally get the emails to stop.

Just a heads up. Not worth a free .net.au for me based on my previous dealings with them. If you don't mind the hassle, go for it - it's free!

    • Hi bonezAU. That is simply not the case at all. Our promotional emails ONLY got to customers who have ACTIVE accounts and have still opted in to receive marketing emails via VIPControl. All you need to do is either change the subscription setting within VIPControl, close your account if you no longer require it, or you send an email to [email protected] and we will happily remove it for you.

      • +2

Can you explain why the customer service refused to close my account when I emailed them and I had to go through all of this, and in the end reset my password and log in to close it myself?

Not the kind of company I want to do business with if you're that dead set on making people's lives this hard. For something that was such a simple request, you've now lost a customer who may have one day considered your services again, but will no longer do so.

I hate it when companies make you jump through hoops to unsubscribe!

Thank you for sharing your experience with this company.

    • just add their domain to your blacklist if that becomes a problem… no more promotional emails…

      ps. great deal guys!

  • is abn required?

    • Yes it's required.

      • Can we register abn without a business?

        • You can register as a sole trader

        • What are you implying here? Being a sole trader (as opposed to a partnership or company) is still a type of business structure. You still need to be carrying out an enterprise to be eligible for an ABN. By creating an unjustified ABN to take advantage of this offer, do you really want to risk the taxman chasing you down in the years to come asking "why aren't you declaring your 'business' income"?

ABR indicators of an enterprise: "is a significant commercial activity, there is an intention to make a profit from the activity, the activity isn’t a hobby, repetition of the activity, commercial sales of products, a business plan exists, the activities are organised and carried on in a businesslike manner and records are kept, the activities are of a reasonable size and scale, the entity has relevant knowledge or skill."

        • And don't get me started on the hoops you would have to jump through to keep your payments if you are on Centrelink and suddenly you have an ABN against your TFN.

  • Hi Rep, I am a newbie at this. Can you please explain how I can get the URL forwarding option?
    Thanks

    • Yes, me too. Still trying to find a way to url forward.

      • Login your Ventraip account, find Domain Management on left side, click it and goes into Manage, they click your domain name on the right side, a little link called Manage DNS will come up at the bottom.

Select Web/Email hosting, click Add Forwarder, then choose whatever you want forward to.

  • i cant log into the vipcontrol, anyone else having this problem?

  • Any discounts available for current domains?

    Ta!

  • Check out this article on .net.au sales prices in Australia. Time to buy and flip them? http://www.domainerincome.com/news/domain-investing-with-jus…

  • Is it for free or for $1? I see it cost $1 for a .net.au not for free

    • You can use the code above to waive that $1.

  • 20 hours and still cannot get rid of 1000 free domain names.

guess nobody cares about .net.au anymore :0|

    • +1

well not everyone has an ABN…

  • any chance i can get a domain on hold or something if i dont have an abn?? i applied 2 weeks ago and the guy said i wont get it till next week which will be too late for this promotion!

  • Purchased two domains. One for $1 other for free.
    Thanks OP

  • How can I add an MX record? Thanks

  • Hi Rep,

I've just signed up for a domain name. Thanks a lot.

Your description above says that all domain names at VentraIP Australia include free DNS hosting.

However, when I log on to the control panel (VIPControl), it seems to suggest that I don't have hosting. Could you please check for me? Thanks a lot.

    • +1

Free DNS hosting, not free web hosting - big difference.
