Hope you're not in a hurry for one:

"Stock is strictly limited, back orders are due to ship mid to late October. Limit of 2 per customer."

    • +1

Just saw that too but it seems to let you add more than 2 to your cart. If true, that would seem to be a bit of a worry, but 5 months to get new stock sounds ridiculous. You never know with DS, their website seems to be riddled with errors.

Go to OW if you want to be on the safe side but it is in stock now.

      • Good points for those who might want one of these. Agree that a 5 month wait is most unlikely. Personally I still have a spare 525 (http://www.logitech.com/en-au/support/6011?osid=14&bit=64) in the drawer from a deal way back when, so can probably live without this. ;-)

        Hi Guys,

Stock will be delivered within approx. 2-5 business days as indicated on the website. Back-order message was loaded to this product in error.

        Cheers,
        DS.

        • Isn't there any more stock rep?

        • +6

Just want to say you should never trust what dick smith say - I ordered something that was in stock and then appeared in sales a week after I ordered so they apparently still had stock then. They held my money for an entire month with absolutely no contact from them at all. I finally contacted them and they said it was on backorder and refunded me without even asking me.

They have never apologised. I must admit to being a bit pissed off at this shocking customer service and it may seem like a have a personal vendetta but I really do feel that level of service is completely unacceptable.

        • Will more stock be available? Website first showed available and I couldn't select home delivery at checkout and now the site shows temporarily out of stock…rain check perhaps?

    • But it's also marked as:

      In Stock:
Normally delivered within 2-5 business days

So I'm guessing they are saying it's in stock now but if they run out of stock you will be put on a back order list with a five month wait.

But who knows with Dodgy Dicky!

    • In Stock:
Normally delivered within 2-5 business days

  • I may wait until the next discount code. That shouldn't take long.

    • Deal finishes tomorrow. Not sure whether a new code will come out before then.

      • Thanks. I'd prefer another 300i anyway, if I ever see one for $15 again.

  • i bought one of these to replace my harmony 525 (paid $49 from umart). just a warning that it only handles 5 devices (the 525 handled 10)

    • +3

Have you updated the software? See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/143281

    • +2

Harmony 650 has been updated to support 8 devices.

If your still using the old harmony remote software 7.70 (last updated Jan 2010). It only supports supports 5 devices max.

8 device supports only available if using myharmony.com to setup the remotes.

      • Wow, this I did not know. Fantastic news.

  • Hey OP, does this work for PS3 console ?
Also can I use this as remote for my Foxtel iQHD box ?

  • i would love to know if anyone has one of these to control Plex home theater on a PC.
i know i'd need a ir receiver of some description, but any insight would be appreciated.

    • +2

Just get an USB IR receiver that is compatible with a MS remote, then set up the 650 as a MS remote. There might be a setting in Plex as well to allow control via remote

    • +1
    • Many Thanks!

    • I've been using an older Harmony to control Plex on a HTPC (with an IR receiver) for a couple of years now - it's a brilliant setup!

  • +1

    Thanks, just ordered one.
For guys need to check this one's compatibility, you can refer:

    good luck

Got to be kidding me… just bought one of these from DSE yesterday! (thankfully pricematched OW's $59 non-existent model)
To replace my problematic Harmony One… which is now working again o_O

    • +5

Could always buy the cheaper one and take it back to get a refund of the pricier one

      • +3

Stop making sense. You're making too much sense!

  • My harmony one still doing alright

  • Its telling me that it is no longer available for delivery.
    Is anyone else getting this?

    • Seems to be okay on my end — using firefox.

    • Mine had the delivery shaded out. I used another browser (explorer) and it worked. The final order step took two attempts.

  • +1

I've managed without a universal remote for so long but OK, this was too tempting. Officeworks Doncaster out of stock but more stock coming so I paid so I could get the pricematch (with ING paywave for another 5% off)… thanks Op, sounds like people love these things….

  • +1

Got a price match with Good Guys. Make sure you ask if they have stock before you tell them you want to price match. :) Rookie mistake that one.

  • Dick is going to make me broke, Friday it was the eneloops (which arrived this morning, thank you dick) and now this remote that I don't actually need but hopefully will mean 1 remote on the coffee table instead of 5….

  • Cheers OP. Bit of a glitchy ordering process, but got there in the end.

  • Thanks OP - grabbed one.
Not sure if it's the best one around, but it was the right price.

  • Bah…out of stock now.

  • home delivery not an option for me on any browser, despite it saying free home delivery. Can only select click and collect on the "basket" page

    • +2

Hit the side of the monitor and try again

  • I am waiting for the harmony smart keyboard to come over to australia….

  • sob, out of stock as I proceed to the checkout.

    • did the same to me :(

  • How come when I click 'buy now' it keeps adding it to the cart as a 'click and collect' and then won't let me select home delivery?

  • I couldn't do home delivery without using IE. In Chrome I only got the click n collect option. Try IE if you get stuck.

    • IE now says out of stock for me. But Chrome and FF have the issue Bohn is talking about

    • I'm in IE now, still can't click home delivery.
      lame ass website.

    • Blast. Sorry guys

    • Says In Stock in Chrome (albeit for store pickup only?) and out of stock on IE, FWIW

  • I got one at Officeworks price matched.

  • +2

Fark me Dick Smith is the worst. Great guy (yes, I know he sold it). Terrible company.

Click and Collect + home delivery both greyed out.

  • +1

What a terrible website, click and collect available, home delivery greyed out, entered postcode at the bottom to estimate delivery charge and it just spins. Off to office works…. sorry DSE, not good enough!

    • Had the same, but did the postcode BEFORE clicking checkout and then Home Delivery was selected by default.

  • Worst shopping cart ever.

  • First the home delivery got grayed out. Trying with IE, Firefox & Chrome with same result. Now Temporary Out of Stock…sigh…

    grrr

  • Wow, what a deal. This changes everything.

Nice remote….bought one last year for $34 or something delivered…… Works better than my previous Logitech super expensive one and has survived at least 20 drops on the floor by my son…so passes all my tests…

  • Bought the 700 a year ago and love it, I'm looking for a second one but it seems to be extremely expensive, maybe because it's discontinued? wonder whey that would do that?

It was exactly the same as the 650 except for being black and rechargeable via usb. Recharging via usb seems more convenient then replacing battery's all the time. Maybe they wanted there higher end devices to stand out more?

    • +1

I've had a 650 for about a year now and I'm still on the original batteries that I put in when I got it, so the battery life is pretty good. It replaced an old 785 remote that would not charge after a while, I'm not the biggest fan of the 2 prong recharging system that Logitech use on their remotes (and mice) as it always seems to be the weakest link in otherwise fantastic products.

The 650 is a great remote for the $$.

      • 've had a 650 for about a year now and I'm still on the original batteries that I put in when I got it, so the battery life is pretty good.

How many batteries does it take. I have a 515 which takes 4 batteries. I am only on my third set and i bought it in Sep 09
I would have bought this one if it was in stock

        • 2 x AAA from memory. I got one for $34 through JB ages ago. Never had a problem with it. Gonna update the sofwtare on it now to get 8 devices happening! :D

        • +1

          2x AA

      • Holy crap, my behemoth MX-500 chews through batteries every 4 months or so :'-(

    • I've got a 700 as well but charging via USB has always been problematic and slow. And if you're a true OZBargainer you're not short on Eneloops :) I get well over a month with Eneloops.

    • I swapped from Harmony One because the rechargeable batteries are nothing but trouble. Replacement battery I bought a few months ago is already on the blink. Stick to standard AA rechargables from now on.

      • The 700 just used eneloops but you could recharge via usb / so they can be replaced if they degraded or you wanted to go down the swap route. The 650 at least for me, having to replace the battery's all the time is a nearly deal breaker. But this price is very tempting however

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one, hopefully I'm not waiting a few months for it ;)

  • coming up as temporarily out of stock

  • +1

I have been through two of these devices, not the greatest but there is no solid competition in this price bracket. The best option for when your kids spill various sticky liquids over the original controls.

The main issue I have is they constantly reset due to poor battery connectors. Every time they reset you have to go through a startup help thing. It happens so much it is a competition to see who can hit the combination of buttons required in the shortest time.

If you buy one keep your receipt so if it annoys you too much you can swap for another one.

    • Yes I’ve had this battery connection issue too. For me it dumps the remote back to an ‘everything off’ state, it mostly happens when the remote is dropped or gets a big bump. I ended up jamming some paper underneath the contacts to make a much tighter fit for the batteries. It pretty much did the trick.

Despite that it is good for this price, and agree there is no alternative. Good enough that I bought 2 (for one spare) when my last one died.

      • Might have to try the paper trick again. When our last became too problematic we just bought another as it was easier and the paper trick didn't seem to work then.

  • Anyone got this to work with openelec+Rpi setup? cheers.

  • +1

Can someone post their receipt for DSE or Officeworks so I can get a price match. I don't think I can show them the website as it says out of stock…

    • OW 3037. That unit that they keep on putting in stock is an opened unit with an audible high pitched noise. It is deemed faulty.. however they havent updated stock to 0! I used the OWs 3037 as a basis to pricematch@ TheGoodGuys for $59.

  • Went to JB Maribyrnong VIC was told "we cant match that". Officeworks had taken all available off the shelves.

  • Officeworks Geelong have 2 more on order, coming in 3 days, if anyone wants one.

  • It's back in stock

  • BUT…. at checkout: unable to use Home delivery or Click and Collect
Says "The requested quantity for LOGITECH Harmony 650 Remote is not available for home delivery."

    :(((((

    • I just ordered 2 before posting my comment. I'm using Chrome too if that makes any difference.

I went through checkout successfully and received my order acknowledgement email and number.

    • yeah i'm having the same issue…using chrome so it doesn't seem to be the browser.

    • Now showing as out of stock again…this is getting frustrating.

  • -6

    it's back in stock again.
but IE and Chrome cannot select home delivery…
Every time I go to Dick's, I get SHAFTED.

  • Worked just now to pick up at Knox DS.

  • Tried on my my smart phone. It says out of stock.
    A bit annoying

  • It would be nice if the rep would update us regarding stock availability. Please.

    • +1

It seems the main thing Dick Smith is good for is providing price matching opportunities for those that can visit an Office Works.

  • Looks like it is back on.

    • I tried. Still unavailable

  • Price matched at OW. Now to decide whether to start using it or put it away for when my 515 craps out
    Thanks OP

  • Can anyone Pls upload receipt for OW price match.

  • +1

Does this 650 work without the original remote? Say my air conditioner remote is missing. Can I use the 650 as a replacement? Thanks

    • They don't require the original to program it. You just pick the devices from a catalog using the software on a PC. Very easy to setup. Can't say I have tried mine with the air conditioning.

    • See if Harmony supports your home-entertainment setup: http://myremotesetup.com/EasyZapper/New/Main.asp

  • Wondering for all those who have a unit…. If you are able to confirm that there is a very slight "high pitched" sound emitting from the top rear part of the remote?

I've currently got 4 units of the "latest" 650 remotes (ones that have slightly clicking sound when buttons are pressed), all have the high pitched noise.. I do have sensitive hearing and some of my mates can't hear it. This sound is not evident on the OLDER harmony 650 remotes. I've had to return 2 of the newer units… One after 2months of use & another after 2 weeks as the sound became louder & remote functionality stopped working.

    Anyone?

    • No high pitched noise from either of the two we have owned. Having said that it seems as though the quality control on these is very lacking and they are very hit and miss. Just keep swapping them out until you get some good ones.

    • Probably the inverter for the backlight,
it'll be a poorly soldered / tuned DC-DC convertor on the board that'll take the battery voltage - which can range from 2.4ish volts up to over 3 volts into a nice regular voltage for the circuits
