Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Tablet clearance offer — $799 for this old (but still pretty good spec'ed) laptop/tablet hybrid:

Don't forget the graphics specs Scotty. That's the first thing I always look for:

    • Intel Integrated HD Graphics 4000

    along with the screen resolution:

    • 1366x768

Which in this case, are both an instant turn off.

Depends on your budget and what you need to use it for…

My intel 4000 plays League at 1920*1080 at 60fps with graphics at medium on my Acer Aspire S7. Integrated graphics cards are improving a lot.

    • I'd constantly be having to zoom in on everything at 1080p on a 12.5" screen . Dedicated graphics kills portabitity/battery life on a tablet , where portability and battery life are the key objectives .
If your a hardcore gamer why would you be bothering with a tablet ?

      • "1366x768"

        Not really insta-turn off.
But it's just really funny with Windows machines. Whether it be tablet or laptop with amazing other specs the screen res almost always seem to be that.

        • But it's just really funny with Windows machines

Someone has to make lower-end laptops.

        • These were pushing $2000 new, hardly lower end.

        • This machine was first marketed in mid-2012.

We'll see a lot of 1080P, 1440P or 1600P laptops this year. X240 and equivalent sized ThinkPad Yoga has 1080P option. X1 Carbon at 1440P and Yoga 2 at 3200x1800.

But they are still 16:9 aspect ratio. More suited to watching movies than working IMHO…

    • Someone at Microsoft has finally realized that we don't all want to just watch movies/TV shows on our laptops. A taller aspect ratio is better for work.

Hence they released the new Surface Pro 3 with a 3:2 aspect ratio, similar to the Chrome Pixel.

I.e. not the crappy 16:9 like the X230 (and most other laptops including Surface RT, Surface Pro, Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2).

  • I have one of these.

A solid build, although some components have already been replaced — e.g. screen, keyboard, and soon to be Bluetooth module (all under on site warranty - phew!)

Now looking at replacing it with a ThinkPad Yoga which is lighter and hopefully will be able to sell my own for some $$ before its condition deteriorates due to further excessive usage from myself!

  • yea good price. after using the X1 carbon, I really want one!!!

  • Really disappointed with build quality of Lenovo's, that and the service really turns me off.

In saying that i don't know what to buy as i really like the track point features.

    • I find the track/accu point very handy and useful for its accuracy. Sadly there are just few models available in the market beside Lenovo; Toshiba tecra and Dell latitude, I believe, are still equipped with these.

we all love the nipple ;)

The service is crap! We ordered 6 X220 of which 3 have developed faults with their screen…so much for the Thinkpad quality!

They want $750 to fix the screen, perhaps I should pick up a new X230T instead…

  • Good spec…..but the surface pro 2 seem to be more tempted! Considering the price will drop soon. In my optinion!

  • i have the standard X230. the trackpad is uselsss

    • yeah the trackpad is too small and clumsy, i'm much better off using their red thumb track in the middle of the kb I have both the X201 and X220, but anyway this was one of the best business spec notebook on the market back then…

  • I also have an X230 for work. The bezel around the LCD particularly in the top left has weakened over time and feels a bit flimsy compared to the standard Lenovo build quality. Also, I've had the screw fall off the bottom of the laptop a couple of times (same issue as my peers who have same X230 laptop). Keys also get dented/fade/etc over time.
