        • something you've said reminded me of a character from one of my favorite movies : blue naked guy.I'm trying to remember his name but I can't.I hate it when that happen

          Its Dr Manhattan,isn't it?

        • @wicket1120: Wasn't me, I've been blue and I've been naked but not at the same time. :)

          Avatar, perhaps?

        • @greenpossum:

I've been blue and I've been naked but not at the same time.

If you've never been blue and naked at the same time, does that mean that being naked makes you gay? ;-)

I was thinking of Dr Manhattan from the avengers:)

        • If it's cold I can only be straight until my nuts turn blue :).

        • +1

Wasn't me, I've been blue and I've been naked but not at the same time.

          Tobias?

        • +1

I was thinking of Dr Manhattan from the avengers:)

Do you mean from The Watchmen?

        • Oops sorry yes from the watchmen, probably my favourite movie of all times. Emmininently quotable.

    • Get a decoy wallet and throw the empty on far away from your and BOLT!

      • I've done this in Barcelona. Worked a treat.

If they're up close and personal with a knife I wouldn't (profanity) around and just give them everything, drop it on the ground and run.

        • I haven't been mugged yet =( I hope it doesn't happen. Also, my spelling above is atrocious.

      • +1

Then you hail a taxi and realise you threw the real one…

  • +1

If someone mugged me today…they'll get lots of pen ( attended the conference with ozb spirit), 3 credit cards ( thanks to ozb for Citi signature), my coffee card (two more for the free one ) , nexus 4. But 0 cash. And oh..my opal card.

  • +1

    $400 ish.. come at me..

    • +3

Same, I'm not particularly afraid of being mugged and don't frequent areas where thats likely to happen.

More convenient to carry more cash.

I had a friend that in addition to carrying a small amount of cash would keep his bank balance low, so that
if he were mugged and forced to withdraw cash he would not lose much.

When overseas I carry less cash when I'm less familiar with the surroundings and I perceive the risk to be higher.

      • Likewise, i usually carry 1-200 on me.. look out for crazy people, stay on busy streets etc

Overseas I only carry when I'm going to spend for that day

  • +15

I have whatever the Mrs allows me to carry. Currently $2.40 in coins :(

      • -8

I can't believe, I'm getting negged for loling? Am i the new jv now?

        • +2

Jar Jar, I hate to tell you this, but you are an unnecessary character around here (and elsewhere). I am sorry.

        • He is a bit annoyingly redundant.

    • +9

That was the left over from yesterday's Chinese take-away by the way. Had no cash in my wallet, Mrs gave me $20 to pick up the Chinese take-away (which only takes cash). Got to keep the $2.40 change. Win!

      • +4

Sounds like you got a $2.40 FREEBIE scotty.

        • He should post that as a deal itself, what a bargain.

  • I think if some one mug me today they will get a bunch of different torch…

  • +1

I never carry any coins. A few 1 and 2 dollar coins sit in the car in case of parking needs, but otherwise they're unnecessary in everyday life. ING PayWave takes care of 90% of transactions. If someone swipes the card they could shop to a maximum of $50 or so. The rest is sitting in ING's Savings Maximiser account and can't be touched.

Cash I have maybe up to $40 for the odd business that doesn't take cards. The only place I see people using cash almost exclusively are bars. If they had PayWave the transactions would be so much faster, although no longer anonymous.

    • and remembered

  • +4

Always at least $20 and no more than %50. The amount of places with a 'minimum' efpos spend is still too damn high.

    • Agree with this. How do all the people in this thread use eftpos for small transactions? Or do they do all their shopping at coles/woolies?

    • I don't see how Boost juice has a transaction fee.

  • I normally keep about 20-100 in my wallet, normally pop into a supermarket every 2-3 days and spend 10-20bucks

  • No cash, no credit card, note 2.

  • +4

    l carry debts

  • +2

only a couple of loose change (millions) in my track pants and constantly are in fights that get published all over media

    • +2

You should have sat on him, James. Then after you'd crushed him, use whatever skinny brunette you're dating like a ladder, to get up.

      • Thanks for the tip nickj. ill remember it for.next time.. ohh btw, i don't know ho to repay u but that audi r8 parked outside with a few loose Chang in the trunk is a small gift to.u

  • +1

Nexus 4, jaybird blubuds, cba platinum debit (considering leaving it home now since there's contact less withdrawals), ing debit, 28 degrees, 2x event cinema vouchers, $100 dymocks voucher I won from SDA union raffle, <$20 cash, $20 eftpos card from Optus for being a loyal customer lol, monthly train ticket (which I have registered in case i lose it), student card, usyd union card for discounts on campus, drivers licence, ipad 4, and jansport backpack. Beware, I keep my cards in this wallet attached to my belt so if you demand it, my pants will fall down, and I will whip you with my belt (and I've played cat woman on arkham city so I know how to use it and climb up buildings with it etc.) http://www.kathmandu.com.au/accessories/travel/wallets-cases…

  • +1

$300-$400: for cab fare (avoid surcharges) and the confidence that if the internet goes down, I have money in my pocket for a head start. Seriously.

    • +5

      I carry that much too.

When I'm going to the pub.

  • +4

depends how much my wife leaves in there

  • +1

$20-50 in cash, 2 credit cards, 1 keycard, license, reward cards, $40 rebel gift card, a cab charge (up to $100), $5 worth of stamps, my 3DS XL (gold Zelda edition), Samsung Galaxy S3, Opal card and lunch box.

I would be most upset if my 3DSXL was taken =(

    • when I leave home with my Zelda 3ds and games pouch, I never let it go out of my possession!

  • +1

Obtainium wallet, $0 cash, Nexus 5, Omega Seamaster, EL Falcon keys.

    • Good. Will you be attending the next ozb meet ? :)

      • +1

Don't know if the EL Falcon will make it that far :P

  • +5

    nobody's carrying eneloops?

    • I have eneloops in my torch if that count

  • +1

heh, not a poll I wanted to be 'leading'

damn i hate you people, you guys are the one's I'm noisily sighing and grumbling behind.

I carry quite a bit of cash. Its fast and efficient.

For me it started 15 years ago, minimal $100 cash for a ride home from anywhere in Sydney.

Now its just efficient and faster.

Ever seen 2 lines at a railway ticket office, one line is paying cash and the other line has credit/debit …. guess which one moves 5-10times faster.

It disappoints me that takeway/fastfood outlets, anywhere there is a high volume of customers don't have a cash

The other big thing for me is that I notice I buy less impulsively with cash. Its harder to hand over cash than a card.

  • If someone mugged me today he will be disappointment. No cash old phone a lot of unpaid bills. Add to that the fine i just got.

  • +2

Has anyone thought that OP might be doing a survey to find out whether its worth going ito the mugging business?

    • +4

Wouldn't surprise me if they are under 30 and have recently become unemployed.

      • -1

        aka

        hashtag #the abbot effect

    • +1

Just gauging if it's worth attending next ozb meet…I think I'll attend but no mugging. Not worth it :))

  • +1

I probably only carry around $40 worth of cash. It is really annoying where I work, most of the businesses are Asian owned and operated, and none of them accept EFTPOS..

  • $300-$500.

    I'm rich bitch.

    But seriously, $300-$500.

    • +1

      same

      I'm not rich…

transaction speed is too slow for most debit credit transactions

  • +2

If you'd mugged me about an hour ago, I had $6500 in cash in my pocket…for all of the 200 metres between the CBA and the NAB.

CBA wanted to charge me $10 per bank cheque
NAB gives me free bank cheques (staff benefit :)

    • +1

I did that once (Woolies to CBA with $7K in my handbag). They gave me a security guard for the walk :)

      • that was very nice of them!

  • +1

    $1000

  • Usually $500-$800. For some reason I like to have cash on me and even stashed away at home.

  • +3

Working in fairfield, I see the average customer to have at least 10x $50 in their wallet.

    • They are probably running cash businesses and don't declare it on tax.

  • +1

I normally try to have at least $20 in my wallet in case needed. EFTPOS is the way to go these days.

    • +1

Could you please explain the cheque, savings and credit options with EFTPOS? Also, how would you pay for an item in the tens of thousands? My card has a daily limit. Sorry, I'm a real noob with card transactions.

    • Yes please explain Weezle

  • < $50.

Gotta have cash due to all the dodgy lunch places in the CBD, that make great food, but only accept cash to avoid tax.

    • or they are too poor to accept credit cards

  • $20 to $50 cash unless I was at an ATM withdrawing for whatever reason, Note 2 phone.

My concern would be if the loser decided to go for my hearing aids and comPilot (remote/bluetooth transmitter) which will probably see me getting killed before letting it happen as they cost well above $5000 that have to be paid in blood, sweat and tears over many many installments. They probably wouldn't fetch $200 to sell though!

Whether a mugger would go that low, I hope I won't live to figure it out!

  • S3 + A few cards + $40 cash + 0.06 Bitcoin in my phone wallet.

  • S4 + 2 credit cards + 1 Debit Card + $10 x 2 + $5 x 2.

  • +1

I hardly carry a wallet nowadays. My mobile phone (Samsung note 2) case has a pocket where I keep a credit card and around $50 cash. So that’s all the things I would lose!

  • I carry cash.
    Average of $200-500 or more.
And a buffer stock of $20 note separate from those above for minor emergencies.

  • I don't always carry cash, but if i withdraw some for pizza or some place that doesn't take EFTPOS, i'll get $20-$60, currently I have $6.35

  • +1

No cash whatsoever, there are the cards in my wallet… but i'll probably try and eat those (or at least snap them) if i do get mugged.

My watch is a seiko but i don't think anyone will take it cause its a rubber strap and they smell… really need to get it washed X_X

Theres also my UE6000 that i got from the deal the other day, along with my Note 2…

Oh and the mugger can also have my fist in their face served with my compliments =)

  • 90 on me. Also have an s3 with a cracked screen and nexus 7 2013.

Usually withdraw 180 per fortnight as my discretionary money. It forces me to be a tightarse and not put purchases on cards. I sometimes get to withdraw less to top up to 200 the next fortnight.

  • $0,no phones with me…Nothing to be robbed

  • Usually a grand or so, i dunno i just withdraw 200 per week and if it gets spent if it doesnt it just stacks up.

I dont tend to use my CC much these days, only on bigger purchases.

  • Samsung Galaxy S4
    $35 wallet
    house keys
    $120 cash

  • +6

$2.30 AUD + this annoying 5 cent NZD coin. The 5 cent NZ coin is really annoying.

    • Don't you hate it when you try time after time to try and offload it, trying to act all oblivious and naive when handing it over amongst a bunch of Aussie coins, hoping so much that the cashier won't notice and you'll finally be free from the shackles of that alien currency?

but every time you try, they hand it back to you with that look of 'nice try, buddy' on their face :(

    • +2

I bet if you tried to nonchalantly "accidentally" lose it somewhere, somebody will run up to you saying "hey mate you lost this". LOL

      • +1

The other day I went to a deli located inside a Westfield shopping centre and the dodgy cashier, an older gentleman, tried to offload a $1 NZ coin on me.Luckily I have been gifted with an eagle eye ( I think it was my right one, cause I'm always finding coins on the ground) and spotted the irregularity of the coin too small to be a $1 AU yet too big to be a $2 coin. When I told him he was all like " Oh!, shucks hadn't noticed…" Yeah…right!

    • I remember when I found a 20 cent NZ coin I got rid of it by using it on a snack vending machine. I guess you could do that, or just put the coin in and press the change button, unless the coin's a different size to an AU coin.

    • Put the 5 cent NZ coin in one of McDonald's loose change canisters. Now, I can relax and not worry about it.

  • If I got mugged, I would lose a whole bunch of KFC/Hungry's vouchers! Over $10 value, lost! Oh noes!
No cash. Zip. Zilch. Couple of ATM cards and my phone, my keys and the remote to the lights behind my tv…
Maybe a Nandos card loaded up, and thats about it.

Reminds me of a place I once lived in. It had a little compartment under the floor boards, so I stuck a safe down there. In the safe I put some, well, you can probably guess… Who ever finds the safe will be so excited with anticipation of discovering an exotic collection jewels, only to find some long since expired KFC vouchers. baha. I secretly hope that whoever finds it spends a small fortune getting it cracked open…

    • $40 Wallet
    • $40 Huawei Phone w/$40 credit
    • Up to $40 cash
    • $40 watch
    • Probably $40 on my Smartrider

I only bring large amounts of cash when.. never. $40 is generally enough for the stores that don't take Eftpos/Credit, and I do enjoy having a wallet that fits in my pocket.

  • 1 x $0
3 x westfiled gift cards $20 value each
    0 x credit card
    1 x bank card
    1 x ip5

  • What a great thread this is. Interesting reading.

  • Less than $10 cash if I ever need cash I have to raid my kids stashes. I do everything on cards - but only use eftpos at aldi . Otherwise it's all credit. I am quicker on a card at checkouts than with cash and find it's easier to keep track of.
I haven't used an ATM for over a year.

  • $200- $300 at all times plus 100 euros and 100US. I invite someone to mug me.

    • +2

Just incase your mugger plans to travel?

  • $300 at least in 100's and 20's. Never had a credit card and never will.

    • I was like you but more and more hotels including car hire companies especially in Europe refuse to take a cash bond now insisting on credit card, I have one but it stays at home and is used for travelling only. I always try to have about $300 on me in mixed notes and I find it easier to monitor my money than using the plastic debit card.

    • you're on a bargain website? 90% of the bargains are online? do you at least have a Visa/Master debit card?

      • +1

Of course. Debit is cash. Just in plastic/digital form. Point is I always spend my own money period.

        • I clear my balance at the end of each month. I much prefer the rolling $1000 remain in my home loan account. I am you but $5 better off each month.

We fear what we don't understand.

  • I usually have around the $200 mark in cash more for just-in-cases and to avoid fees. For example, my local cinema likes to charge an extra $1 just for EFTPOS! Any real OzBargainer would use cash instead - or just not go to the cinema in the first place, unless for a dire need :)

    • Or alternatively you buy a $10 cinema voucher n take ur own snacks/drinks. :)

  • OP, please don't mug people… :(

  • +1

    Casino win last night…
So right now $2700 in cash (normally though $100ish)
$480 wallet (do I lose my right to be on ozbargain?)
    iPhone 5S & iPhone 4S
    Car keys, house keys etc
