Good deal and I guess if you don't need/want the ps4 you could easily sell it for $400+ to further subsidise the cost of the tv.

  • Very interesting (as someone who is in the market for a big screen tv) - now just need to find a Sony TV thats not insanely overpriced vs the competition

    • +3

Agree, tempting though, anyone know which of the models listed is the best bang for buck unit?

    • +7

Robb, you're better off buying one of the last available Samsung or Panasonic plasmas and buying the PS4 separately.

You'll end up ahead financially and with a much better TV.

      • Good Guys were trying to sell me a 65" Panasonic Plasma for $1900 but I wanted to go LED this time as its going into a very large well lit family room for general viewing - i.e. no movies (already have a home cinema with projector for "quality" viewing)

        • I'd go a Samsung 8500 series in those circumstances. As bright as any LCD (genuinely, compare the lumens) and much better value (do LCDs even come that big in a named brand under 4k?). Just my 2c.

        • And I expect will chew a crap load of electricity in its lifetime?

        • +3

Panasonic has achieved the same black levels on this new UHD LED set as they get from their best plasma.
Perhaps this is a good reason why they are ceasing plasma production - http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ax900-201403243688.htm

        • Thanks for that link Rich.

      • +3

How is the input lag on Samsung TVs these days? They're renowned for being quite poor at it whilst last years range of Bravia's were the best LED/LCD TVs ever in that regard. Just something to keep in mind if you're mainly gonna use your TV for gaming…

        • I've got the new 2014 UA60H6400 LED/LCD Samsung. Playing Titanfall on the X1 through HDMI is incredible, no lag whatsoever.. Also the Quad Core processor makes tuning and changing exceptionally fast.. I upgraded from a 2012 E550 Plasma, and it literally kills it in every area.. Highly recommend the Samsung

      • -4

Or buy a sammy or panasonic and build a desktop PC with your savings

        Cheaper than a sony
and can actually utilise the fullHD at 60fps or higher that the bravias can handle

Funny how theyre giving away a console that can "handle" 1080p but only plays the games on a FULLHD tv at 900p

  • +17

What's the cheapest TV in the promo?

    • I would like to know this too.

    • +23

the KDL55W800B with an RRP of $2299. Available at JB for $2098

        • +16

huh? what's that got to do with the price of fish?? Nothing.

        • +2

hahaa what's that gotta do with buying a TV?! I can buy 5245 softserve cones at Mcdonalds lol

      • +5

Over 2k for a 55" tv, this is ozbargain, not Oz Pounding over a barrel

        I got a sharp 52 2 years ago for 500 and it's great (I don't care about 3d however)

  • Whats the cheapest 50inch tv??? With the bonus ps4?

    • +2

No 50inch TV's eligible. They only 55inch or higher.

  • would a 60" plus be possible for $2k ?

    • +1

      2.4k for the KDL60W850B @ VideoPro

      • Definitely better value than the 55 if your room is big

    • I negotiated the 2013 Sony 70" LED to $2600 delivered from JB 2 weeks ago but didnt go ahead as I wanted to see what the 2014 models brung - wish I had as now all the prices have skyrocketed

      • +2

April is probably the best time of the year to buy TV's as you can get last year's model for cheap. You're crazy if you are comparing run out model proceed to RRP. Wait 9 months and you'll be saving a ton.

  • +1

good to finally use them jbhifi xmas $30 vouchers

    • +1

Hmmmmm how many vouchers have you bought?

  • $2096 for this one seems to be the cheapest?

I got this deal for the PS3. It is great for anyone whose wife would not let them buy a ps4 - but is in the market for a new TV.

After we bought our kdlz5500 46 inch for around $3000 and I got my ps3… Within 6 months the prices for those TVs went down to around $1200. So really was out of pocket to the tune of at least $1000. But I got a ps3. So I was happy.

Now to go break the TV.

    • +5

      About the price drop..
that's where Coles Mastercard Account Cover Plus/28 Degrees Shopper's Protection come into the picture :)

    • Our PS3 came from the same deal. At the time we had a CRT TV and were thinking about upgrading to an LCD. I suggested my wife check out the TVs while she was shopping for clothes. Next thing I know we have a PS3 :-).

It will probably be time to upgrade to an Ultra HD TV in the next couple of years. But I think the prices have a fair way to fall from $4999 for a 65" TV.

      • so did i. i bought the sony tv just for the "FREE" ps3.

    • I feel sorry for u, no hand…

  • FYI, the cheapest is the KDL55W800B based on Sony's retail price:
    http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-55W800B

  • I got this deal last time around with the PS3.

The cheapest here (I only had a very quick look) seems to be the KDL55W800B @ 2.1K
    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=KDL55W800B&…

  • +1

The X series is there ultra HD range which costs a premium and there's limited content available. W series is the Full HD and as always with Sony the higher then number (and size) the higher the price. Definitely worth it if u already in the market for a new TV. Let's hope samsung brings out a redemption deal to compete.

  • What could you realistically sell a PS4 for?

    • +1

      ~$400

      • +2

Minus about 20% to pay for eBay's fees.

        • +2

Fees which just went up AGAIN

    • According to Ebay…about $400

    • +11

What could you realistically sell a Sony TV for?

  • +3

Freakin awesome, I'm in the market for an LCD TV and the 55W800B was at the top of my list, kickass :)

    • +1

Do you need help with the PS4 :D ?

  • +11

Just a heads up on two things:

    1. JB HI-FI has %15 percent off all TV deals every few months, so might be worth waiting to see if one pops up this month or early June before you get your TV.

    2. If you actually want to buy your TV mainly for gaming, Sony's models are way ahead of the competition in terms of low input lag. Dont let people try to convince you to buy a panasonic or samsung because they are "better".

    • +1

There hasn't be a 15% off TV deal at JBHifi since the end of last year… I know as I've been waiting for one. That could mean anything, but just a heads up.

      • Myer might from their occasional Saturday One-Day deals.

        • or take take $15 of every $75

      • +1

I reckon there will be one soon, EOFY sales are pretty big for alot of businesses.

Like someone mentioned earlier, don't get rushed into paying RRP just for the sake of the free PS4. In some cases it may be better to get your OzBargain on in JB/BingLee and haggle for both the TV and PS4 at the same time and still make a saving!

      • Last week there was the 15% off…

    • Yeah Sony TVs are great for gaming, I didn't know what people were talking about when they complained about input lag on LCD TVs because I didn't experience much on my Sony set. Looked up the numbers on my model and realised exactly why I didn't notice it.

    • +1

They are "better". No sensible person needs convincing. Plasma craps over LCD. That's the whole story.

Having said that, input lag on the otherwise fantastic ST series is something to look at if your a big gamer. Not a huge problem if you're not and not a problem if you get a better model (VT, etc).

    • -2

A lot of TV's have gaming lower input lag modes and this is good enough for most people.

Its a little silly buying a Sony TV just for input lag.

      • +2

not if you're using the tv for gaming 80% of the time

  • What's the refund policy on the TV?

    • Probably to return everything including PS4 in exchange for said refund, I would imagine.

      • +3

seems there's nothing in the Terms & Conditions requiring the ps4 to be returned and the retailer doesn't need to know about it :)

        but FAQs include:

What happens if I return my Sony TV after registration?

Your claim will be invalid and you will need to contact us on 1300 969 930 to let us know. Your return will not be accepted unless you also return the PS4 as you received it (in the box).

        • "let us know"

    • depends upon the retailer but can't exclude https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120061 :)

  • -3

Any Sony TV under $1000 with a bonus PS4?

  • +3

    Note the fine print that there are a limited number of PS4's available for the promotion;
I can't remember the number, but I seem to recall thinking it was quite low for an Australia-wide promo.
So realistically you 'probably will' get a PS4 as a bonus, but it's not guaranteed, even if you buy a TV for which the promo applies

    • +1

9000 I think that is plenty realistically if you get in quick

  • Which of these models are 4k?

  • +2

Cheapest 4K tv is the KD55X9000B $2998 @ jb hifi

(In wouldn't get anything less than 4k at this day in age)

    • +2

They're only $3K? That's pretty cheap considering they're brand new models

    • +1

Can get it the KD55X9000B for $2787 here.

Doesn't seem like JB stock it so no price match :( it's a B&M store in QLD though so if anyone finds a retailer who'd price match don't be a stranger.

    • That's the price for X9004A (run-out model) not the new X9000B (new model)! I know their model numbering is weird…

  • +1

Was excited then I saw the minimum +$2k TVs you have to buy for the promo.

  • Heard that Costco return policy is good?…

    • -6

Buy online. Get receipt/"payment confirmation". Apply for PS4. Cancel order. Profit…

      • +1

does receipt include serial number which is required for claim?

        • No chance, the retailer would be mad to allow you to do this, they don't want the TV back…

        • -1

Step 1: Read serial number off display model in store.
          Step 2: ???
          Step 3: Profit!

      • +1

Need the serial number of the TV to claim. Sony were not born yesterday. Also the FAQ posted above would mean they expect the PS4 back if you return the TV. Given it takes them ~6 weeks to process the claim, you would need to wait at least 6 weeks to return the TV (good luck returning it)… then hope they don't decide to go after you to get the PS4 back afterwards.

        • +1

Sometimes more - Last time my postie stole mine and took 4 months before I got my hands on it!

    • T&C

      though Sony Australia authorised dealer

      are Costco authorised AUS dealer?

  • I see a lot of you referring to JB but is it an authorised dealer? In other words, can you apply for the PS4 if we are to buy from them?

I am not in the market for a TV but planning to buy my son a PS4 for XMAS and my TV is 7 years old now but obviously still works.

Just curious to know so I can start looking around.

  • Is there limit per 'customer'?

  • +1

They did this years ago when the PS3 came out and I cashed in on that. Got a 40" Plasma for $2000. Good times man.

Glad this is back. I already have a PS4 and don't need a new TV as my 40" is still going strong.

    • that's for a copy of FIFA 14. if you buy the sound bar, BR or HT on top of the tv you get Fifa 14 + PS4

    • +1

sorry yep me wrong… too much t&c reading

  • Please check if you are buying TV at the start of its life cycle (which is around May - June), they are way to costly - they will go Half-price in 6-7 months. Tech goes down by time; but the way TV goes down, you need to keep that in mind!

  • +1

    3k for a 4k TV

  • I paid ~$2300 for a 55 inch sony with bonus PS3… but that was years ago. Amazing Sony can keep their prices more-or-less static for the same size tv for years. (To be fair though it was a pretty good deal at the time, JB wouldn't go below 2600 for the same model, and myer refused to go below 3000!)

Also back then got a Samsung 40" for just over $1000 with bonus blu-ray home theatre system, the samsung tv went to my mum and the home theatre/ps3 is still connected to my sony tv. Great bargaining memories there!
