And then you probably want to fly back as well.

Brisbane to Perth for $229 is no bargain

The flights Melbourne to Canberra are a good price; they're usually $159 one-way now!

I flew Virgin from Canberra to Melbourne (and back) for $130 (one way) back in March 2014. It's $5 more than the average. I booked late so I got to pay more.

Last time I flew interstate, on Jetstar, many times I heard announcements that Qantas passengers were to board the Jetstar plane I was to fly on. At several airports. Do Qantas actually fly people within Australia, or are they just using the Qantas name and flying everyone on Jetstar?

    • Don't worry, they'll be bankrupt in a few years. Australia has had a gutful of their crap.

I enjoy flying qantas. And have never had to fly on JQ when ive booked QF.

Sometimes QF fares are only slighty more exxy (if you include all the extra charges JQ charges) so worth a look!

      • Well, I recall it was on the way to and from Tasmania where this happened, and on all occasions there were maybe ten to fifteen Qantas passengers boarding the Jetstar flight. I can't see Qantas wanting to fly a plane that would be less than 10% full, so I suspect it happens more on less-travelled routes.

If your travel is between major cities or tourist destinations, I imagine Qantas fly those routes in their own planes, because they can fill a plane. Was all your travel between major destinations?

I don't know what happened to the Qantas passengers - perhaps they bought economy-class Qantas tickets and got moved up a class on the Jetstar flights? I know I'd be annoyed if I paid Qantas prices and received Jetstar seats, without some form of bonus.

Yes major cities syd to mel and ool.

As another user mentioned when you are booking flights through sites like webjet you need to make sure that you check operating carrier and ticketing carrier. Sometimes the flight may be sold through QF but operated by JQ.

To be sure just make sure they flight number starts with QF and it will be sure that its a Qantas plane

if you have a look at the webjet or similar site, you'll be able to see which flights are "co-branded" (eg leaving/arriving exactly the same time, etc, maybe even the flight number might be different)
