Kaspersky IS Antivirus / Antispam (3 PC - 2 Year - Incl USB Stick - Update to 2014) $39 @ OW

520

I thought this was a pretty good deal - I hope you agree.

Don't spend $89 on the retail boxed product of 2014 - instead:

  • buy the 2013 box version (which you will never install)
  • score a bonus 8GB Titan bootable USB stick to help with any pesky infections (not included in later boxes)
  • install the latest 2014 (trial) version from their website (~150 MB download)
  • activate for 2 years (720 days) using the key from this box.
  • for LESS than HALF the price of buying the 2014 boxed product (but end up with the exact same thing, plus USB)

Works out at less than $7 per computer per year…

2014 boxed product (no USB) $89

2013 boxed product (with USB) but you download and clean install latest 2014 just $39

Kaspersky is one of the constantly highest ranked AV products in the World - coming #1 in more head to head tests (over multiple years) than any other I found.

Really good interactive graphs covering performance inpact and AV effectiveness:
http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

Note: not all stores have stock, but the one I visited in Brisbane had several in the cupboard behind their counter (not on display), and the website showed several others with stock.

Dont forget to PAY WITH ING PAYWAVE to save a further $2 (if you are eligible)

Update:
Kasperskys ranking in the various charts (using latest test dates from 2013-2014, typically 23-product comparison):

#1 (equal) in Real-Word Protection Test
#1 (equal) in Anti-Phishing Test
#1 in File Detection Test
#2 in Heuristic Behavioural Test
#4 (equal) in Performance Test (score 1.2 where the top 3 were 1.0)

The one test where Kasperski scored lower was the false alarm test, with 9 false positives in March 2014.
However the previous Sept 2013 test was better with only 5 (ranked #5 from 23).
Also, Id much rather a false positive than a false negative (eg missed infection).

  • Good deal. Which Brisbane store?

    • +1

Adelaide St and Virginia branches both show in stock for post code 4000

  • I already have Kaspersky this year (1 year cover), wonder if I can use this to extend usage.

    • +2

Awhile ago I did a clean install going from Win 7 to Win 8 and my KIS reset the licence back to 365 days. Bonus!

      • +1

Yes did that for me as well with a 2012 boxed 2 year licence (pretty rapt), so try this before spending money again:

Wipe drive so there is no trace of old program, install fresh windows, download trial as instr above, pretend like you had never installed Kaspersky before, enter your old code from 2012/2013 and you may get another 1/2 years whatever the original deal was.

It may work unless they fixed the loophole (oops!), doesn't cost you anything if you were going to reinstall anyway.

    • +2

According to the website when you add extra license keys they stack on top to extend.

Also, the 2 years does not start until you first activate. So you can easily wait a year before you first activate it.

I considered buying a second box to get 4 years total, but dont want to drop money now on something 2 years away :)

      • I believe you will be able to get this price 2 year later! It could be even cheaper over a sale or something!

    • yes it 2 years when you register it! I bought it! Don't worry

  • I bought this pack and redeemed the power bank as well! The power bank now expired! I believe the stock of this product is very low now! As last time I had to go 3 stores in Melbourne CBD to find it!

    • +22

Were they having a sale on exclamation marks as well?

  • Thanks. Great find. Been using Kaspersky for years and very happy with them.
The 2 years for the 3 licences run independently of each other as well.

    • +1

I found this not to be the case recently. Activated it on one PC a month ago, then did a 2nd PC recently. The 2nd PC picked up the expiry date of the 1st activation..

      • Mine was about a year or more ago so they may have changed. It would be worth checking though.

  • out of stock online :(

  • That chart, Kaspersky and Avira head to head…
But Avira wins in less CPU usage… <3 Avira

  • Whats the difference between this ver and the Kaspersky pure 3.0? thx

    • Don't remember the details, but from memory Pure was their best product containing everything their others do, plus more. Look at the Kaspersky website to see the table with "ticks" showing what's included. I've been using the trial of Pure 3.0 and it's brilliant. It recently found a backdoor hidden in an *.iso file that I've had for years but never installed. Both Avast and AVG missed that entire time.

  • gonna see if i can get one 2moz

  • Yes good price and a very good product. Would have stuck with them if they'd offered a decent renewal price. I found that the 3 machine limit wasn't actually implemented, ie if you purchased the 3 licence version you could have it on more than 3 devices.

  • Last time I bought Kaspersky, I never got my USB…

  • I have been using Kaspersky IS/AV for years, but the 2013 version was nasty, I tried various ways to uninstall it before installing the new 2014 version yet it just doesn't go away. And the installation of the 2014 version always leads to a restart loop which frustrates me so much =.= Finally ended up with my PC free of protection :|

    • Thats no good. Kaspersky offer free support - you could log a ticket with them ?

In a perfect world, the uninstaller should remove all components. However after uninstalling gracefully, you could (if comfortable doing so) also try deleting the Kaspersky folder from inside Program Files, ProgramData, your User profile, and the under the Software keys in the registry.

Or if its been a year or 2 since your last fresh install of Windows - take the opportunity to back up and perform a clean install (clean Windows always runs so much faster) and then go straight to the 2014 version.

FYI the trial version on the website lasts 30 days - so anyone considering this could try it for a few days before committing to buy - however stock may not last long now its on Ozbargain.

    • There's a special tool which removes every trace of the AV, provided foc by Kaspersky. Google would have found it for you. Had to use it myself. It's not the only AV which leaves traces behind.

  • +1

    Quite a good deal!

  • +2

    Love your initiative

  • ….Why is ESET never on sale? :(

  • +1

still boggles me that ozbargainers don't save money on freeware instead.

    • +2

Avast, AVG, and Lavasoft (the 3 free ones I recognise from the test tables) score significantly worse than Kaspersky in almost every test - eg ranked #11, #19, #20 where K is #1 (equal) in the latest Real World Protection test.

Free is nice. But given the often substantial effort required to recover from an AV infection, for me cheap good protection beats free worse protection.

Avast & AVG are not much better than NO antivirus. For just one example, see my post above. Another fact I couldn't believe… I had Avast installed for a couple of years, and one day for no particular reason, decided to run a MANUAL scan. It found a bunch of virii and I lost many infected files that I didn't want to lose. Avast was installed right after a clean install of Windows. So all the infected files were dated AFTER I installed Avast. What's the point of having antivirus software if you have to tell it to scan your HDD manually!? (BTW. Anyone using Avast/AVG that hasn't done a manual scan - do it today.)

        • Sorry, but this is baseless. Avast and AVG is not the best, but certainly better than nothing. There's a bunch of setting that you may need to do to make it works the way you want, and their UI is not the best (I prefer Microsoft Security Essential, but it's just a preference). It may also be the case (common) that at the time your files were infected, the virus data couldn't detect it yet and subsequent update able to do that (that's why it's important to keep updating the virus data, which should be on by default). Karspersky (or name whichever you want) will also miss some detection (it's a cat and mouse game after all), so does it mean it's not much better than having none?

        • When an antivirus misses a bunch of viruses (virii) that were created several years ago (so should have easily been recognised), then yes - you may as well have installed nothing.

I'd rather have 30 virii recognised by something like Kaspersky than 1 (or in my case, 0) recognised by Avast.

This option still seems to be the best choice out there…

    Common Sense

No doubt, but the Family Edition costs a fortune in training how to use it.

  • This company do a lot of work in computer security and often are first to release news on new viruses, malware etc. Of all the companies, I'd trust their software more than any of the other competitors. Good deal OP. +1

  • You also get a power bank (or did when I got it)

  • Kaspersky was the first AV i was using back in win95 days… Though i think Sophos Endpoint Security is way better with its own firewall, which stops pesky things from phoning home…

  • This price has been static with OW for a while now, I frequently visit the Clarence St story in Sydney CBD and this is the price all the time. yes it's cheap but not a once-off.

  • Kapersky is a Russian company so of course they are one hundred percent above snooping, aren't they

    • Eugene kaspersky actually worked for the KGB before the USSR fell apart.

I have been using kaspersky anti virus since it was a DOS GUI in windows 1995.

Excellent detection rates always near or at the top in well respected av-comparatives tests.

      • There is no such thing as former KGB officer. Once KGB always KGB ;)

  • The Americans (Norton and McAfee) arn't any better

To whoever Ozbargainer(s) who tried to call the Vermont South store this morning and got told that they only have the 2014 version in stock, the staff there had finally worked out that the boxes are hidden at the back row of the software cabinet behind the cashiers, so should be able to score one there.

  • +1

Still got some in the ringwood store for anyone who is interested.

  • Good luck delegating your computer protection to former(?) KGB officer Eugene Kaspersky …
As KGB officers always say there are no former KGB officers :)

    • Funnily enough, I trust the KGB no less than Obama, Abbott, or whichever puppet the Labor weasles have their hand up this week. In fact since they gave that Snowdon guy refuge, I think I'd trust them more.

Five boxes left at Hornsby store about an hour ago.

I just use the one from MS called Defender. It's free.
I never use AV as it just slows your PC.

    • As Dickie boy says on TV - 'if it's not crim safe, it's not crim safe', and MS Defender is far from crim safe. There are plenty of tests which show Defender's limitations but if gambling with your online security is something you're willing to accept for a slight performance improvement by all means stick with it.
