Centrecom has the Asus VivoTab Smart ME400C for $299 again (as they did couple of months back). I picked one up Sunday. Haven't had lot of time to play around with it, but youtube and locally stored HD videos work fine.
It has a previous gen (Cloverview : 32nm / 32bit) Atom chip, but rated to have up to 9.5 hours of battery life. According to benchmarks/review it can last almost 8hours when surfing with WiFi, which IMO is pretty good for a tablet running standard Windows 8.
Overview:
- Microsoft Windows 8 32Bit
- 10.1 (16:9, 1366x768 IPS) display
- Intel Atom Z2760 1.8 GHz (2 cores / 4 threads)
- 2GB, LPDDR2 800 MHz RAM
- 64 GB eMMC Flash storage (~32 GB available)
- PowerVR SGX545 Graphics
- Realtek HD Audio
- 802.11 b/g/n + Bluetooth 4.0
- 1x USB 2.0
- 1x HDMI
- Combo Audio jack (Headphone + mic)
- Micro SD card slot
- 580g light and 9.7mm thin
As you can see its not a very high-end tablet, so you probably won't be able to replace a notebook, but at this price point, this is a far more attractive tablet for me than a similarly/higher priced Android or an iOS device.
It has always been $299.
