This was $459 at Harris Scarfe last week but was sold out before I could buy. Glad I waited!

You're link is a coffee forum discussion page.
how much more? anything wrong with this model?
doesn't get hot enough and the grind is not as fine as the 870
wow that's a lot of bad reviews,….oh wait, you've posted the embedded link with sorting to low first. well played!
here it is with newest first….

It has no PID, so you need to be an expert at manipulating the temperature via switching between the steam wand and the extractor if you want to replicate the same correct-temprature brew you get with the BES870.
870 looks like a 50% higher price.
IDK if the differences are worth that much
- Coffee Bean Hopper Redesign
- More Control Over Brew Temperature
- Added Hot Water Dispenser
- Auto Shut-Off Function
- Consuming Slightly More Power
- Included a Dosing Tool Called “Razor”
Yes, if it makes the coffee taste better!
well +50% is not a bit so could you pls post the link where it's only a bit more expensive as $400 to $650 is not a fair comparison. thanks
Then order it if you think the price is so good!
If you are spending $400 plus, then you would want a decent machine, after seeing the comparisons, if I was in the market, I'd pay the extra $200. You would kick yourself if you spent $400 and it made below par coffee.
I'm also searching for an alternative to the nespresso, but this one doesn't tick enough boxes.
The search continues.
"You would kick yourself if you spent $400 and it made below par coffee."
yes, like those nespresso machines, very sub par, they have good marketing and people fall for it. George Clooney, amiright?
"I'm also searching for an alternative to the nespresso.."
oh.
Luckily our nespresso was a gift, and I'm the first to say, it doesn't make a great coffee. It is convenient, but I do enjoy a good coffee.
Yes it is George Clooney, and yes there marketing/hype is great.
I think their business model and marketing campaigns are genius, they have people who know nothing about coffee paying more for less, and feeling like they're incredibly high class. :P
I use Nespresso at work because it's incredibly convenient, and to be fair it is the best capsule coffee.
I have a BES870 at home, and it's miles ahead.
I'd only consider control over brew temp and auto shut off function worth any significance. But at 50% higher price it's not worth it. The auto shut-off is quite good though if you'd rather not buy a new boiler or entire machine the one time you forget to turn it off and blow the system.
Pretty good deal but if you're into you're coffee, most would go for a 2nd hand silvia or upgrade to the bes900
Get a second hand Rancilio Silvia.
Then add a PID.
No WiFi?
The 2 <— is the incredibly important part here.
If you don't want to spend more, get a smaller model with a PID, not a larger/fancier/old machine without one.
Even incredibly good old machines like the Rancilio Silvia are often sold with, or have the PID mod added to them.
This coffee machine is five year old!! Pay a bit more and buy the BES870 model instead.
