For those who missed out on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139778 and https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139327 this deal is a pretty decent bundle of both bluetooth speakers (from what I can tell). BigW's website could be better regarding details.

Home Delivery, Click & Collect and Shop In Store available as I write this.

This is my third BigW posting today. With each posting, BigW has made changes to availability on their website soon after posting the bargain here.

I guess you need to check you local stores for stock now. BigW's website might have an automated system where if it senses too much traffic it limits supply like this. I don't know. Or it could just be OzBargained. That's the third time this has happened to me today (all 3 deals having limited buying choices some time after posting it here).

At the time of writing the post, all 3 options were available though. It might be an idea to check the website again later too. I remember when BigW were selling their discounted Sony Vita (a while ago) that availability would vary throughout the day. Just some thoughts. Good luck.

  • Good deal with bundle mini speaker. 2 months bef bought @ office works for 68.00 just handbag speaker only.

  • How can these be a RRP $118 when they are not even rechargable?

    • +2

Why does being rechargeable make it worth an RRP of $118 ?!?

Rechargeable batteries have a limited life span, at least with this device you can use your choice of rechargeable AA batteries, like eneloops, and change them when they give up the ghost…
You can also purchase off-the-shelf batteries if you run out of juice…

Incidentally, it's actual RRP is $129 according to Sony Australia

Yep, people should be avoiding embedded rechargeable batteries that can't be replaced easily, in my opinion. The little speaker uses one while the larger unit uses more sensible AAs (so you can use your own rechargeables or whatever).

After some time ALL embedded rehchargeable batteries don't hold as much charge as they once did and eventually need to be replaced. If the company doesn't make this easy, enjoy more e-waste hitting the landfill since 99.999% of people aren't going to bother doing the surgery and sourcing a battery replacement.

  • Moderator has changed the status of this post to OUT OF STOCK even though stores near me are saying "low stock".

    • It says online only offer, are you sure in store price is the same?

      • If the website is asking you to source it from their store I'm pretty certain you'd have no problem getting BigW to give you at the stated price.

But stranger things have happened. Let us know how you get on.

        • I had an experience speaking to an in store staff she just said bigw online had nothing to do with them and therefore in store prices were different.

        • If that's the case, I can't imagine why they'd have an Shop In Store option on their website.

  • I received my speaker set.

Someone at BigW or Sony made an incision into my box, cutting into the shrink wrap (the two came in their own packages, but shrink-wrapped together). I will probably get rid of the little speaker since I have no interest in keeping devices that have embedded batteries that can't be replaced easily for long-term use.

The larger speaker is taking my eneloops and seems to work OK, for what it is. The mic seems to work OK too. I think I'm going to stick to the 3.5mm cable and just use it as a speaker rather than futz around with bluetooth or NFC. I can do with far less radio waves eating my brain.

I don't like the gloss handle on the larger speaker SRS-BTM8; I much prefer a matte surface here like the rest of the unit, but silly fashions are silly fashions. Speaker sounds pretty warm (overly warm, maybe). If you look through the metal speaker grille with the right light, you can see the hole for the mic in the top-right corner section of the unit plus the 2 speakers and air ports between them.

A nice bundle even though I am only interested in the one unit ;)
