Qantas MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX $1199 Return

510

I know this fare isn't as good as some of the Air NZ ones that have been going around, but I'd much prefer to fly with Qantas for $200 or so extra. Anyway, hope it helps someone!

Travel periods:
06 Oct 2014 to 26 Nov 2014
16 Jan 2015 to 31 Mar 2015

Great price considering United is a 3 star Skytrax and Qantas 4.

  • $$ are better off in my pocket than to pay extra for Qantas.

To each his own :) I had a pretty good experience flying back from LA earlier this year, so not complaining!

Until a Qantas plane falls out of the sky, I will also prefer to fly with them, even if it costs a little more.

      • Me too, Qantas has been my best flight experience out of all my holidays so far, with virgin a close second. That Airbus A380 is awesome :D

        • Haha yes! I got lucky and scored an exit aisle seat as well so slept like a baby :) Admittedly I boarded with no expectations, but I was really happy with the service and the flight itself. Especially having just flown 17 hours on Avianca :P

        • Ooh awesome luck! I felt that the chairs were more comfortable than other economy seats, which is a huge plus, that and the unlimited snacks >_>

Also who would want to put up with the old boilers at Qantas. Better hosties elsewhere.

      • Not sure what you mean. Qantas hosties have always been great to me.

I couldn't get direct flights via air nz so was happy to pay a few 100 more and get there 3-4 hours quicker

      whats wrong with qantas?

Some people just blindly jump on the hate bandwagon. While not to Europe, Qantas is undoubtedly your best option across the pacific.

  • Brisbane is included at the same price for similar dates.

      Thanks! Updated :)

  • Good deal. Hoping something similar comes up for flights around Mar-Apr next year.

Anyone done the east coast to LA run on Qantas that can give me some feedback? Better than Virgin? On par? Would you rack up enough FF points for a domestic hop if you're a Bronze member? Trying to figure out whether to hold off for cheaper Jetstar/competitor flight to Honolulu then US domestic flight to LAX or LAS.

Not sure about points but had a great experience in business, great service, relatively new aircraft (A380s and refurb 747). Flew BNE-LAX-JFK return

Yes I have done MEL - LAX - JFK with QANTAS in business. It was a fantastic flight with fantastic service from the hosties. I was a bronze FF and earned around 45,000 points from that trip.(MEL-LAX-JFK then BOS-LAX-BNE-MEL) The only mishap wasn't QANTAS' fault at all and they acted extremely professionally (as usual). The misshap was that it snowed in Boston on the day we left which don't get me wrong was amazing!! I went to Harvard and it was pretty cool to see Harvard covered in snow. Unfortunately that meant my AA flight from BOS - LAX was delayed from 2pm to 5pm. This was fine until it was delayed till 8pm meaning we couldn't get our 11pm LAX- MEL plane. Still it wasn't too bad. Yes I missed the LAX - MEL flight but QANTAS got us on a LAX- BNE - MEL flight which was really good. They met us at the gate when the AA plane arrived and handed us our new boarding cards. Was much better than having to spend hours organising a hotel in LA.
I haven't flown with Virgin before so I can't comment on them.

After travel on June 30 the points accrual from east coast Australia to Los Angeles gets crippled.

Melbourne to LA used to be 15846 base points, is now going to be 9000 base points (plus any status bonuses). Status credits remain at 90 I believe.

9000 points is enough to get you from Melbourne to Sydney one way plus taxes.

  • I've done LAX on a QANTAS A380 and a Virgin 777. Both flights were fantastic. Both were in economy. I'm one of the lucky ones that scored a $829 return fare to LAX on Air NZ. Looking forward to that flight also in economy.
