Ulefone U7 Octa Core 7" 3G Tablet/Phablet - 2GB RAM/16GB ROM - US$216 Shipped @Pandawill

40

The tablet allows you to make phone calls, so it's also called a Phablet (though I don't quite like the term).
Spec wise it looks like it's pretty much on par with the 2013 Nexus 7, with a few advantages like higher MP cameras and 3G support, considering that the 4G LTE Nexus 7 is $400+, I think this is a pretty good deal… although no LTE.

OS - Android 4.2.2
CPU - MTK6592, Cortex A7 octa core, 1.7GHz
GPU - Mali-450 MP4
ROM - 16GB
RAM - 2GB
Bluetooth - YES
Dual Cameras - 2.0MP front camera; 13.0MP back camera with flashlight
Display Size - 7.0 Inch LTPS, capacitive screen, full lamination technology
Resolution - 1920 x 1200
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 850/2100MHz (OK for all 3 telcos, but Optus only good in non rural areas with 2100MHz)

and it actually looks really good in this video.

  • I would probably rather splurge and get the build quality/reliability/peace of mind of the Nexus 7..

can you make calls/sms with the nexus 7?

      • +5

Most people have a thing called phone for that purpose.

        • +3

So the Nexus 7 is not really comparable since it doesn't do calls/sms? Carrying two devices misses the point of a Phablet doesn't it?

        • +1

To carry a 7 inch tool that is not attached to the human body, one needs to have very deep pockets.

        • I used the original 7" Galaxy Tab as my phone for about 6 months. Standard trouser & short pockets were fine, although jeans were out and business/suit pants were a toss up.

  • has the price changed or do you have a discount code?
    link shows $239.99

    • The "$219" was a special price that was only available to like 5 units last night (yes, its bait but more like "pick of the draw" from Pandawill). Once gone, it reverts back to $239 as being normal price. Not really a bargain since most other places sell this phone for about this price.

Fair enough, if this deal ends up being pulled; thanks op for bring device to my attention. Usually I would suggest nexus 7, but that doesn't suit everybody ie no SMS, expandable storage etc. Are there many other similar brands/models from China around the same price? Or is this the poor kid of bunch?

      • Actually $216 was the limited 300 devices on sale (though I'm not sure how many exactly in stock), the special price that was limited to 5 people was $203.99 (I got lucky and got one at that price). And $239 is the RRP.

        The deal is now expired
You can actually see the page still showing $216, so I'm not quite sure what's happened.

        • They only change the carousel of specials once a week on Sundays from memory. Thats why it is still in there at the special price to say "nagh nagh.. you missed out on the price" type of thing. :)
All good. Would have been a good purchase if I didnt already get the Samsung Note 8 from OW for that offer the other day.

I can't believe how much people pay for big name phones when you can get China phones like this. How much would this cost if it was a Samsung?

    • +1

Its pretty easy to believe because when it comes to stuff that matters to some people, like signal quality, sound quality, camera quality these China phones are garbage.

But if you're using your phone to connect back to your PC to queue your anime downloads or use your phone as a remote for your HTPC etc then perhaps these phones can be seen as a good deal.

like signal quality, sound quality, camera quality

I have a Samsung Galaxy GS2 and a Chinese phone (similarly priced); I would choose the Chinese phone over the GS2 any day. It's sound quality and signal quality kick arse, and the camera is pretty decent too (I never expect much from a phone's camera). I also have never liked Samsung screens, the colours just seem… wrong?

        • +1

lol that's the worse thing about an AMOLED screen, it's either too blue or too green, always hurts my eyes. (getting better after the S4, but still not a fan)

        • Well that's why I will never buy a Samsung phone because their call quality, signal and cameras suck!
I have owned Chinese droids and I have owned a few Huawei's which I think are excellent value for money.

On the flip side though for work purposes, none of them compare to my trusty Nokia's signal strength and call quality.

SGS2 sucked in those area's and is hardly a reference point for those things

        • Don't agree about the camera quality as my S3 camera is better than my current Lg phone which has a higher 13mp sensor. Call quality can also be related to your carrier and signal in your area. Overall when I had my S3 it did its purpose with no hiccups and never gave headaches as my current LG GPro which I will be returning soon.

        • Again you're comparing 2 Korean manufacturers to the companies I'm talking about who are known for their reliable signal strength for many years.

At the end of the day, what I was saying in my first comment was that in my experiences, the Chinese droids skimp on components which are important to SOME people.

They skimp on the mics, they skimp on the GPS chips, they skimp on the speakers etc etc

          I am speaking from experience.

        • Fair Enough guess every company has their pros and cons.

  • Is it me or is this Phone/Tablet (I refuse to use the term Phablet) extremely similar to the Huawei Mediapad X1 that I am desperately hanging out for? The specs look identical even down to the 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras.

    • Similar but not the same, the Huawei you're talking about comes with a Hisilicon (a Huawei company) Quad Core CPU, personally I don't know Hisilicon very much… I'd rather go with MediaTek. The Huawei also has 4G LTE as well, and obviously more expensive like around $400.
