I owned this machine too and for the price - very good and quite versatile.
adgum - you can call Breville and ask them to send you some washers.
You can then manually adjust it to as fine as you wish.
We had to tone it down 2 steps - as our finest setting can make turkish style coffee.call breville and ask for a shim kit as you have a well known problem. just use google
It costs more than my coffee machine.
Its only great if you use boiled Voss water and a $350.00 cup to drink it from.
A good grinder with cheap coffee machine will always give you better results then expensive machine & crap grinder.
Fresh coffee (from your local roster/coffee shop), decent (conical burr) grinder & basic machine is a great way to start.
Whatever you do do not buy coffee from your local supermarket - it's crap.
Everything at Myer are more expensive than other retailers regular price.
Breville Café Venezia BES250 - was $199 now $159
http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/electrical/mid-season-sa…Thegoodguys regular price only $149 still cheaper than Myer sales price.

http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Breville_Coffee_Grin…What's your point again?
Good price for an OK grinder. If you're serious, just go get at least a Rocky or a Mazzer. It'll be cheaper than upgrading later.
Didn't supermarkets used to have coffee grinders in the coffee section? Do they still??
Ahhh those were the days.
I remember them when I used to work in the supermarkets, and needing to sweep that section more often than other ones.
If anyone is serious about grinding coffee, you don't go electric…they can't guarantee the size of the granules. So you can underbrew or burn, all in the one cup.
These guys know what they're on about, if you're a purist….
http://www.oehandgrinders.com/OE-Manual-Coffee-Grinders_c_1.…Great grinder..
Came free with my Dual boiler..
There are better grinders out there of course.. but none at this price
Anyone having issues with the grind not being fine enough… you must have one of the earlier models. Contact Breville and they will send you a shim kit free to fix it
Hi Guys, I bought this machine myself as I am getting to the more serious end of enjoying my coffee. Few months ago bought a breville basic coffee machine just for my espreso (this is what i have for myself). After reading pages and pages of positive comments on coffeesnob forum, I decided to get this one.
Nervous and excited at the same time, really hoping that the quality of the coffee will raise a few notches. I have been using vittoria ground coffee with my machine for some time and I don't get the rich taste and flavor from my espresso. In fact, it tastes like long black at best.

I'd try and price beat it from the Good Guys. http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Breville_Coffee_Grin…
They're good, cheap grinders and once you pack the head with the washers so it grinds finer.
To be blunt, you need:
1) a decent machine (Gaggia, Rancilio, etc. with x>$500)
2) good grinder and (Probably looking x>$400)
3) fresh beans (preferably less than a month old - or even better, roast your own.)If you don't mind spending a bit of time chasing parts and cleaning up an old machine, purchasing a good 2nd hand machine and a cheap grinder like this will tie you over while you save up for a higher end set-up.
And use this to try and get an extra $10 off.

Where can I buy a good french press in Sydney?
http://www.aeropress.com.au is better but for something larger i suggest http://www.victoriasbasement.com.au/Product/Details/55583 :)
tonester, thanks for the links!
I have to be honest, I'm a little disappointed with the comments here. If it is good enough for Market Lane, it is good enough for us (http://www.marketlane.com.au/equipment.asp?productID=2209)
I do a fair bit of pour over and cold drip at home and have trialled this one; it's brilliant for the price. I've been waiting for it to come on sale for a while and used the Myer price to get it price matched at my local Good Guys.
If you're in the market for a grinder, now is the time to buy!
I bought this grinder from the Good Guys for $160 about 12 months ago.
I simply walked in and told them I had friends who got it for the same price at another good guys, and they were happy to do it.
There was no sale on at the time, and I didn't have to buy anything else at the same time to get that price.
Currently own this grinder, and for espresso machines i do not recommend it.
It is fine for more forgiving methods of brewing like french press for example. But when it comes to the machines i personally just couldnt get the right grind to make a good brew. It doesnt have enough adjustments (only 24 step from memory). Will be selling up for a better/more expensive 200+ step grinder.
But eh, decent grinder for the price, simply not meeting my needs
