  • Pretty sure the 1TB version is this price or $10 more at officeworks.

And here are the review from someone on office works website. I would stay away.

I bought a Toshiba 1TB Canvio 3.0 Simple from OfficeWorks about 3 weeks ago. I will be returning it for a refund - the product does not work as promised or as it should.
The product looks great on paper but has serious technical flaw - namely the portable HDD does not stay connected to the PC for 2 possible reasons I know:
    1. The default power-saving mode turns off the portable HDD without user permission. Worse, you cannot disable the power-saving mode. So when the portable HDD "switches off", it is disconnected from your PC. As far as your PC is concerned, the portable HDD does not exist anymore. In my case, my Windows 7 crashes on boot-up because of Error: 0xc000000e9
Status: An unexpected I/O error has occurred
Basically, Windows 7 is complaining that a USB-connected device has been removed while in operation, and thus the boot record is damaged. I tried to repair and restore. It worked the first time. Then on subsequent PC boot-ups, I get the message of death (Error: 0xc000000e9) and restore no longer works.
I spent the last week reinstalling/updating Windows 7 and every software that I use. It is an excruciating and frustrating experience!
To give the portable HDD a benefit of doubt, I plugged it in after a fresh OS and software installation. The message of death (Error: 0xc000000e9) came back on boot-up. I took the portable HDD out and rebooted again. Everything is back to normal. No more message of death.
Sorry, Toshiba 1TB Canvio, you are not allowed to go anywhere near my PC anymore.
    2. If you google "Toshiba Canvio Problems", you will realise there are truckloads of people having disconnection problem because the USB cable does not stay securely connected to the device or PC. So again, you cannot read or transfer file when you want to. Data corruption becomes a serious risk.
If the purpose of having a portable HDD is to safely store your valuable data (photos, videos, files etc.), then the Toshiba Canvio portable HDD has failed spectacularly.
Sorry, no more Toshiba portable HDDs for me.

  • DSE are currently in my bad books. Ordered 2Tb portable HDD for $139 4th March, still stuck in 'awaiting fulfillment'. Called 1.5 weeks ago for update, was told I would get an email with an update - no update as yet. Wrote email last week to find out whats going on, reply was 'we will investigate and get back to you' - still waiting for that email.. Called up Monday to cancel my order in frustration, put through to overseas helpdesk, after waiting 20 minutes was told because its with the warehouse and they don't want to keep me on the phone they will call me when its been cancelled and refunded… Still waiting…. Tomorrow I'm going to submit a dispute with paypal…. Oddly enough DSE were really speedy with the eneloop… Given Buff's feedback, I'm going to say probably better to buy from officeworks and get better service than the incompetence DSE is currently experiencing.

    Not happy dick…
