At an approximate $0.54/GB (for the 240GB), this has got to be one of the best bang for buck SSD's out there at the moment.

The next cheapest I could find was from MegaBuy for $164 + $.9.95 Shipping

Anandtech review Apparently this review is based on old model. Advised by others that there are two versions of this with the same product name - was not aware of this as I have not used these myself.

  • good price for the size, I got a 120 GB slotted in my gaming system as primary drive. Not too bad in performance.

This is just another evidence that SSD price slash is on the way… soon local stock would be at this level and 120G will replace the old 6X GB as entry level drives.

we want to see 480G break the 200 USD barrier!!!!!

worked out AUD 133.25 included shipping for me in the check out though..

is the 128.xx the 28 degree card calculation?

Just be careful if these ones are the newer ones then it will be hell lot slower.

true, got a couple of these from amazon and sold them 1 week later

Max read speeds were 200MB/s and write speeds ~ 150MB/s for the 4 drives i got

Wow, I am disappointed with Kingston, they should put a different version like le or something not sell it as the same series drive.

If so, the king max drive sounds like a better deal than it. :(

I have the v100 and within 3 years it has been replaced twice, terrible quality. Don't buy this if you plan to run your PC 24/7.

I wasn't aware of this swap. It's unethical and it's put me off Kingston SSDs and their other products. Just like I haven't bought another OCZ product since they did a similar thing with their SSDs

  • Samsung Evo 250Gb have been about AUD$139 recently through Amazon incl postage. Local stock is about $20 to $25 more so not enough saving for me to grab one. Pricing will come down as the AUD goes up a bit more or at least stabilises a bit more.

I got one of these before I realised they had changed up the nand. Fortunately it wasn't for my computer. Again going from a hdd to one of these as your OS drive is going to make a big difference. The access time and whatever else make them faster than a hdd will still make your system feel more responsive. Still I wouldn't buy one for myself now.

The Anandtech review is based upon the old version with the much faster NANDs. Newer versions are half the performance as per the above comments. Would not recommend this.

Don't know why OP hasn't removed that review..

  • +3

Why would you choose a Kingston V-Series SSD (Kingston's budget range) over a Crucial M500 or Samsung Evo?
Half the performance for a $10-30 saving. That's madness

      This is sparta!

Only posted this as per 'bargain' basis based on reviews available - does it really deserve the negs?

Until posting here I was not aware that 2 different products were sold under one name - never had a close eye on Kingston's SSD. Judging by the responses, I guess bang for buck is not a good way to put it - merely a 'cheap' upgrade that is available for users that prefer a cheaper SSD and don't need high performance.

According to the appropriate uses of negative votes not sure whether all negs are deemed appropriate.

    • +1

But if the product is not serve its purpose fully, being cheaper doesn't make it a bargain.

      • -2

How so? So what you're saying is it doesn't serve the purpose of being a SSD? True it may be slower than others but it doesn't mean it's not a SSD.

According to price history, this is the lowest price it has EVER been - still not a bargain considering local shops sell it for $16x?

Face value maybe not a bargain, but compared to what is available at the moment, it is by far the cheapest. If there is cheaper, then neg away.

        • +2

The item suffers from quality issues. That extra $2 lower for the "lowest price EVER" it has gone down doesn't matter if it will not deliver on the speeds an SSD should. You're better off spending a little extra for something which will last and deliver such as a crucial M5 or Samsung.

Kingston have been caught with their pants down(and on fire!) by silently switching NAND with this V300 http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingston-ssd… to be fair Kingston is not the only guilty one as others like OCZ did it before with the Vertex 2, the problem is they switched to the cheaper slower NAND and didn't change the model number, they were 'considering' naming the slower SSD V305 but didn't!

Go to this website and compare them together, As my point. I will pay a little bit more (~$20) for samsung evo to get speed of reading and writing….
